Moo, I think you could also mention the glass/carbon % on carbon shafts, you know, how a 100% carbon shaft is lightest and stiffest, but with more glass into the mix it makes it slightly heavier, but much more flexible for long days on the ocean or those with dodgy shoulders. And...like good surfski paddlers, it's easy to buy dayglo sticky vinyl to stick on the outside of your black carbon blades to make them really stand out on the water. There is one more material for the shafts... wood & it's the heaviest. The MOST IMPORTANT thing in choosing the length is the TYPE of kayak. Sit on top kayakers will need a longer paddle than a SIT INSIDE kayaker.
I find the standard length chart is off if you are in a boat designed to carry a 250lb person and you only weigh 140lb. I sit about 3” higher in the water than my neighbor (250lb) in the same boat. So I had to add ~6” to my height (5’9”) for the chart to be accurate. With a 34” beam width I need a 260cm paddle. The length also keeps the paddle from dripping on my lap. Useful in cold water.

That's why I recommend trying it out first. The charts are just a guide and it's more of personal preference.
