I, too, am a Pink Floyd fan from the beginning. However, Marco and the band just blew me away with this. I agree PK and David is more mellow and quieter, and that is not diminished by this by NW. Nightwish and Marco just did it their way and I like this edgier tone and quality. Loved the reaction. Thanks for doing it. Suggest our favorite NW live performance of "7 Days to the Wolves" from Wembley 2016: ua-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/v-deo.html Very melodic with plenty of energy. Stay safe.
Great reaction. I loved PF in college 1970's and love Nightwish now (first exposure a year ago). This version has become one of my all time favorites and you were right, everybody in the band were awesome.
I grew up a Pink Floyd fan. (I remember my aunt saying, who's he? LOL) I saw them live on the "Atom Heart Mother" tour. I saw them play "The Wall" at Earl's Court, but this just blows it out of the water. I love this version in every possible way.
Big smiles and lovely reaction. I also love PF and Nightwish. This was great tribute with the emotional singing and playing. I especially loved guitar-work here.
Jukka no longer plays for the band due to health issue (severe insomnia), but he is still part of the Nightwish family, working behind the scenes. Great drummer, and he was instrumental in having his friend Kai Hahto (best known as the drummer from Wintersun) take over in Nightwish in 2015. You can see Kai in concert videos from 2015 to present-fantastic drummer in his own right, but we all miss Jukka because... Jukka!.
If you want to see a softer side of Marco then try The Islander from Tampere in Finland. For the next Nightwish song try Romanticide from Wacken 2013 see how Marco and Floor sing together. Band members Tuomas Holopainen Keyboard and 95% of writing/composing Emppu Vuorinen Guitarist Marco Hietala Bass Guitar Vocals Troy Donockley Multi instrumentalist and Vocals Tarja Turunen Singer 1996 - 2005 Anette Olzon Singer 2005 - 2012 Floor Jansen Singer 2012 - present Jukka Nevalainen Drums 1996 - 2014 stopped due severe insomnia. This was a concert in Helsinki Finland 2005, home turf. The original, 1996-2005, female lead vocalist Tarja was fired after the concert with an open letter, but that's another and a long story. Then there was Anette 2007-2012, and then Floor from 2012 on till today. Jukka's replacement, due to insomnia, Kai, is a great drummer, Jukka's good friend, picked by Jukka himself. Kai is as good a drummer as Jukka, but Jukka is more of a showman, he plays with his whole body. Fans still miss him after 6 years. Kai is great technically. He has studied drumming in the US. And he gives drumming lessons. He can play any kind of music, including jazz. He used to play in Wintersun, that's not jazz for sure!!! I can't remember which song it was but Kai said he wanted to play it just like Jukka, because the fans are used to it. Kai said it took him 2 hours to figure out how to do it right. And Kai used to be Jukka's mentor at some point.
Tanks! So nice you enjoyed this. You can choose any of Wacken 2013, each and everyone of these masterpieces will make you smile, like this one did now. Of course there are many more places like Wembley, Tampere, Buenos Aires.Your choose.Take care.
Thx you two !! I also had the pleasure of seeing the Division Bell tour and it was awesome !! But Nightwish did an amazing tribute to Floyd , Nevermind how well Empuu played but I just love Jukka’s drumming in this song , thx again and more please !! 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
Sass & Hank....Nice reaction, thank you. This was 2005 in Finland seven years before Floor. Vocalist at this time was Tarja an original member.. This was her last show, they fired her after this concert ( major stink in Finland and NW World, check the back story )/ Next vocalist was Anette, Floor arrived in 2012.Wait until you hear Marco and Floor harmonize, wonderful. Troy sings also, more on newer songs.
One of my fav covers. It is totally respectful of the original and just more. So good! This was with the first singer and she was changing during this I believe. The drummer Jukka is now their CEO on the business side and his replacement is his good friend Kai who is awesome as well :) I think this show was in Finland.
This is nightwish nostalgia. Tarja era(original singer). She was backstage changing. If you want to hear her. Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish. It's from the same concert. Fun fact If you pay attention. Even the lighting crew pay homage to Pink Floyd.
I strongly recommend you react to Ghost Love Score live in Wacken 2103 next, is my personal choice as a starter for the Nightwish journey with Floor Jansen. She will show you the many facets and ranges from her amazing one of kind voice. 🤟🤟✌️✌️🇨🇦
This is just the boys here. And in 2005 when this concert was held, Floor did not know anything about this band. Their original female singer was at backstage. Marco is so awesome singer some say the best one. This is more tribute to Pink Floyd than cover because NW respects them. The drummer is original too. By the way this concert is one of the very best of them...and yes they have been several times in US since they started in 1996.
This is a truly great song. The Pink Floyd original has been completely rethought by Nightwish and has in a way eclipsed the original. The masterful way Nightwish has presented this is fantastic. Another credit to Tuomas I'm sure.
Check out "I Want My Tears Back" from the 2013 Wacken Concert. Introduces Troy, multi-instrumentalist playing Uillean Pipes. Can also watch Emppu (Guitar) play a prank on Floor unplugging her transmitter on her back, then her reprimanding him when he passes back by - can really see the height difference, Floor at 6'1" and Emppu the Hobbit at 5'3".
Like you I am a big Floyd fan also seen them 3 times live. I’m older than you and a big Metal/Rock head. Been a Nightwish fan for over 20 years. Nightwish made this song their own. Thought no one could out do Pink Floyd performance of any of their songs but David Gilmore would love this rendition. Check out Romanticide, Ghost River, Ever Dream from Wacken 2013, if you want to see how Nightwish start a show try Dark Chest of Wonders Wacken 2013. Also being you love Metal and your sister in law loves Floor, check out Floors Band before Nightwish, Revamp, try Distain, Trial of Monsters, Millions -Live at Graspop 2010. Nice reaction. This song was taken from the end of an era concert in 2005. Way before floor joined the band. This was the last concert for Tarja their singer at the time.
Hey Sassy! To explain the difference (till you hear The Floyd), I listen to Floyd's rendition while having a bath before chilling. I listen to THIS while having a shower before going to work. Love both. I was in Earl's Court in 94... Best night of my life (with clothes on). Big love feom Spain
This was seven years before they got Floor. Their singer, Tarja, was backstage for an outfit change. This is from 2005. Kai Hahto (the new drummer) is a more virtuoso type than Jukka and has a bit lighter touch. Compare Ian Paice (Kai) vs. John Bonham (Jukka).
Nice analogy Oliphant, I get a Neal Pert feel to Jukka's drumming as much as Bonham, and looking forward to hearing Kai. Just the fact that you compare him to Ian Paice says a lot.
@@humbertofarias5980 In all honesty, that analogy isn't mine, I read it somewhere, but it seemed appropriate right away. Another drummer that is somewhat similar to Jukka was Cozy Powell (sadly deceased). Check out his live work with early Rainbow (with Dio).
Watched this performance over 100 times and still get chills every time I hear it! Agree, Floyd is immaculate, but this was freaking insane! :) Good reaction!!
This is an excellent performance in every possible way. Fantastic! And don't worry, mr Kai Hahto is a great drummer and very highly respected drumming teacher. Only totally different physical appearance, you'll see. 😉
They currently are planning only 3 shows in the States next year. They have not had a huge following here. Most of the shows have been in venues holding 1000-2000 people. I hope to see them in NYC next year. BTW, she is not a body builder. She was asked in a recent interview if she works out, and she said that she doesn't. She and her husband Hannes (the drummer of Sabaton) own a farm in Sweden and she gets her workouts handling her horses, building fences and working the farm. There is a video she shared of her driving in fence posts with a sledge hammer.
Each show one song is without Floor to allow for her outfit change. They did more as a tribute to Floyd. This was from "The End of an Era" DVD show. This was actually with the first singer "Tarja". The new drummer is Kai Hahto who is a personal friend of Jukka's. Kai is not quite the showman that Jukka is, but he is an incredible drummer. He actual taught Jukka some drum techniques. Loved your reaction video my friends. I look forward to the next one. Maybe check out "Storytime" from Wacken 2013 for the next one. Peace.
Nightwish only performed this song a few times, This is from End Of An Era. 2 hours after the show they publicly fired Tarja Turunnen, the band's vocalist from the beginning. A lot of emotion here, I think this was a message. There's a whole dramatic story . Floor is the 3rd singer, and in my opinion, the best for Nightwish. However, Tarja is amazing and worth listening to, she has a fabulous solo career going on, and is definitely worth listening to. Check out her cover of Supremacy by Muse, or Victim of Ritual(built around Bolero).
Thank you 🙏 so much for reacting this Masterpiece, absolutely one of my favorites. I have heard this many many times and never get bored with it. Probably never will. Powerhouse performance and a great tribute to Pink Floyd. Hope You'll do more Nightwish as imo it is the best Band on Earth For instance Shudder before the Beautiful, Wembley 2015 (show opener) Song of myself, Wacken 2013 Weak fantasy, Tampere 2015 Until next time, stay safe 🤘👍🇫🇮
This is from 2005 and Floor joined in 2012. Their lead singer at the time, Tarja Turunen was off doing one of her frequent costume changes. The Floyd version is more melancholic while the Nightwish version as an angry edge to it. They're both good, it just depends on what we want from the song. This video was from the End of an Era concert in Helsinki, Finland. The drummer Jukka is still with the band, but in a management capacity. Nightwish has three U.S. dates in late 2021.
I really appreciate that he's familiar with the original version which gives added context and understanding the song. I'm also a huge pink Floyd fan and have been for years but there's no denying the energy and passion they gave to this performance and it blew me away too. Really enjoyed this reaction. During this performance Floor wasn't in the band yet. This was the original singer Tarja's last concert with the band. I think the choice of the song being from the division bell album and it's lyrics were very deliberately chosen considering there were issues with her and the band. After Tarja they had Anette Olzen as singer for a couple albums before the current era with Floor.
A whole bunch of commenters have already told you about this particular performance, so I won't do that. But I will just let you know that Nightwish does come to the US on tour occasionally, though they don't draw the crowds here that they do in Europe. They were supposed to go on tour this year, in fact, but COVID-19 put a stop to that. Once we get past this pandemic, without a doubt they'll be back here again, so keep an eye out for them. I've seen them a few times and they always put on an amazing show!
a lot of folks react to this song and do not know the original..love the fact you were lip synching the lyrics at the start..and then once you heard Marko that smile never left your face.
Empuu is very underated as a lead guitarist, the band leans more on other instruments, including in this era, Tarja (who was doing a costume change) although I think this was her last concert. Empuu's guitar playing on this, a song written to be guitar lead, was superb, showed his skills.
This was like 7 years before Floor was asked to fill in for the second singer Anette. So here it's Tarja who's singing in this concert. Her last performance with Nightwish
Awesome, thank you very much for the nice video. Im loving this because a) sound quality its 10 and your mic volume is level with the music ( ican listen this loud err....too loud) Greetings from frozen Finland :)
Although David Gilmour can certainly carry a tune. He has nowhere near as powerful of a voice as Marco. Marco slew this song on so many levels. I always wondered what High Hopes would have sounded like with Gilmour singing the mellower parts at the beginning and throughout the song, and Roger Waters was still in the group and was singing the higher register vocals, i.e. "The grass was greener..." etc. Now I know what it would have sounded like, only with a better singer even than Roger Waters. Nightwish has done to this song what Johnny Cash did to Trent Reznor's Hurt...made it their own.
Yes, that is great! As a Nightwish fan I love this Nightwish tribute, but you always have to give credit to the original. Without it there would be no other versions.
I think that's where Emppu just gave himself space to put his signature tap slide :) i think it's good he didn't copy David since this is Nightwish it gave the song the feeling of Nightwish but kept the class and melody line of Pink Floyd, the only other cover that did justice to Floyd was Korn - The Wall IMO, would've been dope if Emppu played Lap Steel though 😅💯🎶🎸 but really glad he didn't :)
I really believe that you should do: "The last of Wild" from Wacken 2013 - and Floor is out changing on this one - but pure instrumental Celtic power with Troy playing is brilliant. You will be surprised 👍🤘🤘🤘 Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰, Nightwish Army
Jukka recommended his replacement Kai. Jukka is still with the band, but in a behind the scenes capacity. They are both kick ass. Yes they have been to the states. Enjoy, even an ol geezer like me enjoys Nightwish. Go figure? haha.
I agree - and most other reactors seem to agree as well - they absolutely blew this apart. Marko's voice (and bass), Emppu's guitar, Jukka on drums, led by Tuomas on keyboard - just incredible! For a good history lesson watch the documentary "Learn the Setlist in 48 hours" - takes you through the different singers, and how Floor came to the band... ua-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
Jukka did not leave the band, he had to stop touring because of severe insomnia, but he is still working in the management side of the band. The new drummer Kai is technically superior, but to me is not as good of a showman as Jukka.
From the very beginning Jukka was the band's accountant. He now works fulltime behind the scenes, although I believe he has gone on stage and played the odd song or two when he can.
I knew Hank (or Henk?) would love this one! I've seen many comments by Pink Floyd fans on reactions to this and they all said this version is better. And I agree. Marco's amazing voice, Emppu's guitar solo.... Still blows me away and I've heard it many times.
Hahahaha i thought your sound was reaally bad, then i realized i didn't have my hearing aids on, sorry. At one time David Gilmour said this was the best cover he had heard
I’m not a fan of bands who cover Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, because I think it’s a big NO NO. But . . . . . I have to admit, I’ll make an exception for this version of *_High Hopes_* of Pink Floyd by Nightwish. If you’re a Pink Floyd fan, you have to see/listen tot his incredible cover (over 8.000.000 views.

PInk Floyd is my favourite band of all time ever. And I love Most Nightwish songs. But this song they absolutely butchered it. And may be this song was never going to work in the Metal genre.
I think this is better than original. It’s kind a tribute more than cover.

This is not only a cover this is Tribute for Pink Floyd !! (Heroes to Nightwish!) ... (and me over 50 years). Stay safe.
Im a big Floyd fan .To try to copy them would be absurd , Nightwish took it and made it their own ..what a killer tribute to such a legendary Band ...

Thanks 😊
keetos means thank you in Finnish, where this band is from. floors from the Netherlands
a lot of folks react to this song and do not know the original..love the fact you were lip synching the lyrics at the start..and then once you heard Marko that smile never left your face.
Thanks Dhax,
I'm still smiling, this was a great tribute to The Floyd.
Thanks
Empuu is very underated as a lead guitarist, the band leans more on other instruments, including in this era, Tarja (who was doing a costume change) although I think this was her last concert. Empuu's guitar playing on this, a song written to be guitar lead, was superb, showed his skills.
Passionnnnnnnn NGHTWSH...
Nice. You guys fixed the initial upload. Liked the reaction! Will look forward for more Nightwish reactions. Have fun !
I'd love to see them do a whole Floyd album especially now with Floor.
Good idea Tony,
Which album would you have them do?
This was like 7 years before Floor was asked to fill in for the second singer Anette. So here it's Tarja who's singing in this concert. Her last performance with Nightwish
Thanks for the info 😀
Into feelings
from 2005 floor was not a member yet
Awesome, thank you very much for the nice video.
Im loving this because a) sound quality its 10 and your mic volume is level with the music ( ican listen this loud err....too loud)
Greetings from frozen Finland :)
Thanks Muumi,
And greetings from hot Miami.😁
Next October....
Drummer is regular.. Just behind scenes🤟☺️
The only thing missing is the lap guitar solo at the end. Otherwise, it's great.
I really believe that you should do:
"The last of Wild" from Wacken 2013 - and Floor is out changing on this one - but pure instrumental Celtic power with Troy playing is brilliant.
You will be surprised 👍🤘🤘🤘
Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰, Nightwish Army
Hello Denmark 🇩🇰 thanks we will check it out 😀
Kim... I too believe "Last of the Wilds" is often overlooked and under-appreciated.
I'll second that emotion!
Greetings from COLORADO!!
Well.......watch more epic NW songs. Totally insane!
Yeah, there was no Floor, this was from 2005
Jukka 🤘😎🤘
Jukka recommended his replacement Kai. Jukka is still with the band, but in a behind the scenes capacity. They are both kick ass. Yes they have been to the states. Enjoy, even an ol geezer like me enjoys Nightwish. Go figure? haha.
You’re never too old for Nighwish 🤗
There is not one song thats bull,,,keep it coming
I knew Hank (or Henk?) would love this one! I've seen many comments by Pink Floyd fans on reactions to this and they all said this version is better. And I agree. Marco's amazing voice, Emppu's guitar solo.... Still blows me away and I've heard it many times.
..hi Miss sassy are u a Filipina?great reaction btw..there's a lot to discover bout nightwish enjoy ur journey
No Darling I’m not Filipina 🤗 I get that a lot 😁
Hahahaha i thought your sound was reaally bad, then i realized i didn't have my hearing aids on, sorry. At one time David Gilmour said this was the best cover he had heard
😂😂😂
This is much better than the original
Redbull gives me vings
If you ever do a "i want my tears back" reaction, then please do the version of Buenos Aires 2018, because the Wacken version is crap.
also: how good is the new drummer? Find out at "Devil and the deep dark ocean" Buenos Aires 2018
and for the lady: "dead Boy´s poem" Buenos Aires 2018
You are correct, just Finnish-ed watching the BA version myself! Much better for sure.
Eh, you do know the song was recorded in 2005, right? Floor joined halfway the American tour in 2012.,,
Sorry Paul, we're new to the NW world, we didn't know. But we're loving this band.
Thanks for the info.
It's hard to believe but drummer replacement is even better as main singer ....nightwish have luck on replacements
Floor wasnt even born at the time of this piece.. kind of.
??
Actually she was kickin' alright at the time, doing her own fabelous cover of a great song ua-cam.com/video/EpxOKueE-_0/v-deo.html . Ann Wilson did approve!
PInk Floyd is my favourite band of all time ever. And I love Most Nightwish songs. But this song they absolutely butchered it. And may be this song was never going to work in the Metal genre.
Well, it is your opinion they butchered this song.... A lot of people (even hard core PF fans) think they nailed it!
