He would never be the one to initiate a relationship because he A) doesn’t think that he can be loved because he is too damaged B) He knows Lizzie is aware he loves her. he has made that abundantly clear but saying it out loud, that might be scary for him to acknowledge his feelings because he has built up his wall to protect himself from rejection because in his mind who could love him, a monster, and to protect others from his preserved darkness that he taints people with. He sees himself as a bad influence that only gets those he loves killed. If his enemies find out that he loves Lizzie then she can be used as leverage as well. So he just suffers in silence, thinking that his love is unrequited. But he is fine to just stay where he is because just being a friend or heck even a Coworker CI type of thing is better than nothing. At least this is my take. I could be completely wrong. But I have thought about this a lot because I just freaked love Lizzington so much!
