- There are so many amazing manga series that we aren't able to read physically in English! In this video, I'll be compiling my top 10 list of the manga I want to see come to English physical print before I die!

I got three, while they’re all released digitally for English, I personally would love to see these series in print:
1. Talentless Nana
2. A Couple of Cuckoos
3. Domestic Girlfriend
Urasawa himself has said he doesn't see Billy Bat coming to English because of the similarities between the main villain in the series and Walt Disney (and Disneyland). I assume he thinks a lawsuit (although highly unlikely in my opinion) from Disney is scaring off any publisher.
Very interesting! Do you know if Urasawa created the series with Disney in mind or was it just a coincidence after the fact?
Definitely a conscious parody of Walt Disney and Disneyland in general. Would fall under parody in my opinion so I don't see a lawsuit happening but the fear of one by Disney is scary enough for someone like Viz who also releases Disney manga. @@ThePromG

I think there are too many volumes to start releasing from the beginning but who knows!

Honestly I really wanna see Rainbow in a physical english release.
This would’ve been an honorable mention on this list, hope we get it one day
With Chihayafuru ending pretty recently I really want to get some sort of physical release for that one, even if they give it some sort of clunky 4 in 1 release.
Liar Game is also one I've heard alot about. Pretty sure it was cancelled but it seems to still have a huge popularity in the west.
And even though Urasawa is well known for his thriller/mysteries, reading Asadora makes me wish we had some of his sports drama series like Yawara or Happy in english, and I feel like there's a greater chance of that happening since they don't have any copyright or licensing problems like Billy Bat.
In Germany we have Billy Bat, Gantz:E, Sun-ken rock and Jagaaaan 😂✌🏼

Apart from some of the one's you mentioned, I'd love to see Rainbow, Ultra Heaven, Tomodachi Game, Liar Game, Darwins Game all get physical prints. Would love to see Usogui get one as well but doubt it since it has like 50 volumes
Usogui is also just not well known at all. Not very popular so it's gonna be hard to sell.
For me I really want Saint Seiya the final edition as a potential reprint of Saint Seiya. Imagine it as a hardcover that and also potentially YuYu Hakusho perfect edition

Yancha Gal no Anjou-San is probably top of my list; with as much gyaru content we have in English, I am really surprised that no one has picked this one up
Nozoki Ana (and while we are at it, let's get the full color edition)
Domestic Girlfriend is available in English, but it is electronic only, I'd like it on my shelf
(and no, I'm not Gigguk on a burner account, though he is responsible for me reading two of the three listed here)
We really need kengan ashura in viz sig line. Surprised it hasn’t been licensed yet
"Takemitsuzamurai" is one of my favorites, so I would love to see it translated as well.
My other big wish would be "Touch". One of the greatest and most successful manga of all time (sold over 100 million copies). It's such a shame that so few of Mitsuru Adachi's works have been translated.

I recommend reading "Cross Game" first (same mangaka). It's his best work, and it's also available in English.@@ThePromG
I just finished reading the climber, beautiful artwork and got emotional towards the end
The one series I want a physical english release above all else is Manchuria Opium Squad. It takes place in 1930's Manchuria in China occupied by Japan about the drug trade. I'm hoping it has real historical things in it like Unit 731.
I love boxing series but have never heard of zero so thanks for the recommendation.

the movie was SOOO good and is my favorite movie for how gory it is while also having an amazing plot. I've gotta see the manga cuz apparently its so much more gory and has a very different pov. It has an amazing artstyle as well.@@ThePromG

Definitely agree with Kingston, but also the complete set of Katekyo Hitman Reborn., 16 volumes of 42,
Some more Akira Amano titles, as well as Kazue Kato titles.
Baki Hanma and Kengan Ashura
I would really like a release of level E to complete my Togashi collection (or at least a collection of all his major series) with the amount of fans he has in the west it's a pretty safe bet and I have no idea why it hasn't been released yet especially since it's already in every other language And it's only 3 volumes
Billy Bat is my favorite Manga of all time, and I feel sad knowing how unlikely it is it'll get an English release (despite America itself being such a focal setting in the story itself!).
I personally never subscribed to the idea that the Disney parody held the potential for an English release back. What separates Billy Bat from Urasawa's other works it that it's his only series that Kodansha owns the rights to, so they most likely have a final say on it coming stateside. Why they don't feel the need to translate it is anyone's guess.
It might have something to do with Urasawa's works feeling very much like a part of Viz's brand over here. As everything Urasawa related released here has been under the Viz Signature line. Curiously, even in recent releases like Asadora!, the portion of the volumes explaining Urasawa's career mention every major work of his except Billy Bat. It's like they're afraid to even mention it's existence.

Also I disagree with extreme prejudice just like all those Comics/Mangas Readers that always praise the first half but then somehow trash on the second half.
Shamo is Pony Boy Gold all the way thru for me, only true weakest arc is def the china one and only because in future arcs nothing gets referenced back to that trip Ryo took.
One of my personal fav Brutal and Disturbing Dark Seedy Realist Martial Arts Mangas of all time. The author change in the middle still makes it a must read imo.
Kingdom, Billy Bat, and a Sundome Reprint!
Gantz;E is not concluded actually. Matter of fact, this video and you saying that it WAS finished inspired me to catch back up and read it all from scratch. Needless to say, it isnt finished lol. its up to chapter 61, and what made you think it was finished is probably because it switched magazines in december 2023. The story isnt really anywhere near over. At least it was fun to read it today lol

Half my list is Saint Seiya LOL -
1, reprint of the original cuz it's so hard to find, and make it the ultimate editions while they are at it
2. Next Dimension, SS sequel,
3. Lost Canvas - SS prequel (alternate universe)
4. Saint Seiya G/Assasin/the third one, all three parts cuz I love the Gold Saints
5. SS: Dark Wing (another non-canon spin-off)
6. SS: Re-Rise of Poseidon
7. Basara reprint (if Red River does well, I hope this will happen)
8. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon reprint
9. Teppu (This looks like a really cool sports manga, could be an older one that just needs a reprint. I'm not sure.)
10. Chihayafuru (I keep hearing such good things about it.)
11. Yu Yu Hakusho reprint or some kind of ultimate edition
At one time, Embalmed would have been on my list, but the day I went check the news to see if we would ever get it in English is the day I found out what the Rurouni Kenshin creator was guilty of, now I couldn't care less.
for series like that I just suck it up & buy the Japanese prints but here would be my top 10 I would want
10.Mori No Takuma-san( cute wholesome romance series about a girl on blind date who sees like her perfect match on paper but is actually fat soon she finds out he does the comedic effect of he becomes skinny when he stops eating for like a day but loves food so much that he usually as fat as a bear, so she learns to se past his looks and fall in love ofr who he is also its written by the creator of Mixed Vegetables)
9.Addicted to Curry(wonderful food shonen series about making curry its also like 50 volumes so I would like to not have ti try and read 50 vols of a manga series)
8.(All Pokemon oneshots, spin offs, & series that arent already in English)
7.The World's Best Skilled Surgeon(I just want this in English so i wont have to study how read complicated medical terms & diagnoses in Japanese i mean sits fun & I love it but still thats a lot of work to read a manga series. also mad eby teh same guy who did Yakitate Japan)
6.G-Maru Edition(made by the mangaka behind Strawberry 100% about a android manga fan from the future going to the past to watch his favorite artist make history to become the world renowned artist she is known as in the future. its a 1 shot & my god its so emotional and wonderful)
5.(Everything from Yuna Kagesaki) creator of Chibi Vampire a.k.a the Karin anime, I love her favorite artists w/ the most great stories I wish more than just Chibi Vampire & The Witch's House were over here in English
series like Aion, or the silhoutte of the spetcre
4.Shoku Goku & Shoku Goku King (these 2 series are a thrilling cooking manga about a chef framed for a crime he did not commit & is forced to be a wanderer going around to restaurants on their last legs trying to teach their chefs what they are lacking)
3.Digimon V-Tamer 01(first series I ever read fan dubbed I liked it so much I want to buy it not knowing it even a fan dub)
2.Rozen Maiden(2008) (part 1 was release din english then tokyopop went bankrupt. but part 1 ended on a cliffhanger and the sequel series wraps it up)
1.Zatch Bell(as in ALL of Zatch Bell since the original series stopped just **8** volumes short of the full series. & this is the ONLY one where my fingers are crossed that they will re-release this series fully in English especially since the author is working on a new sequel to it)
As a total freak for psychological horror and sci-fi, two that I’d love to see are Yuureitou by Tarou Nogizaka and 7SEEDS by Yumi Tamura. 7SEEDS is probably the more likely possibility seeing as it had a Netflix adaptation and Tamura has other relatively popular, or at least acclaimed, series licensed for English publication. The Netflix adaptation may not be the best indicator though as it was unfortunately dropped before concluding and seemed to go under the radar despite being well regarded by most who watched it.
Kingdom nahhh maybe when its over. If they didint jump on it yet. I agree with most of the list. 2 I would like to see also are Baki and kengan ashura for sureeeee
Baki and Kengen would be sooo dope to own, Based Sempai would be smiling upon me from wherever he is 😂

Billy Bat, Kingdom and The Climber are also high on my list but the one i want more than any other would be Chihayafuru. And if i could dream and be a little selfish, i hope they are released in single tankobons rather than 2-in-1s
I would definitely love to see Nejimaki Kagyuu get English print, mainly for the art alone. Which is not saying that the story isn't cool or not but the art for this manga is some of the coolest I've seen in the medium and it is such a shame that it has never gotten an English release. I mean if this was marketed correctly to the right people who really like cool and unique art styles it could be quite a decent seller.

More Chie Shinohara please! I would love to see Blue Seal/ Ao no Fuuin (11 volumes, complete), The Golden Birdcage/Yume no Shizuku Ougon no Torikago (ongoing), aaaannnnd Yami no Purple Eyes/Purple Eyes in the Dark (12 volumes).
I would also love for the light novels for Twelve Kingdoms by Fuyumi Ono to be picked back up and complete their English print release 🥲 Tokyopop went under when they were releasing the first 4 light novels.
I don't know if Billy Bat really do came to US, like this series has a lot of sentences topic to americans beside poke fun of Disney wise. But I do think his earlier series in his career, like Yawara and Happy is easier choice to license. If only Viz wasn't a lazy bum just license his earlier stuffs already.

Dig the eraser head shirt. Two big ones I want that you mentioned are Holyland and Billy bat. Moris manga Suicide island would also be sick to get in english. Also Crows x Worst would be killer but probably never gonna happen 😢

I just want two Ecchi manga haha, Sora No Otoshimono & Tsugumomo, I’ve bought both in Japanese, actually just bought the latest volume 32 of Tsugumomo, but I’d like them in English.

For me, “The Climber” and “Kingdom” would also be absolutely amazing. I also hope that Dark Horse will bring us "Innocent Rouge" after the completion of Innocent because without Rouge the story isn't complete.
I see less hope for "Billy Bat" though because the work contains a lot of "hidden" criticism against Disney, the USA itself (other countries government too by the way^^) and also well-known conspiracy theories (such as that the moon landing could have been a fake). The work is also very political, or one could interpret it that way. I can well imagine that this is why American publishers are holding back. But it is probably Urasawas best work to this day. It was a great time reading this. A true masterpiece.
Well, I am quite surprised but here in Spain 8 of these have been published or are being published soon (Gantz:E vol. 1 gets released March 27th). Only Zero and Holyland are not avalaible or announced (yet?).

Yea the length of Kingdom I wouldn’t think could be the sole reason not to publish it, more volumes means more money. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is longer & they’re putting them out in hardcovers that are double the price to regular volumes.

Probably not anytime soon, I put bleach on hold years ago after people told me to stop at the third box set. Maybe I could read the rest and give my thoughts 🤔

@@ThePromG omg he has so many amazing series I think you should check out Black box,Zankyou and Nuen they are shorter series but very very good. And of course Sidooh one of the best samurai manga better than vagabond imo.
