Akira is a bit of a cheat, because yes it’s 6 volumes, but each volume is over the length of 2 volumes, there’s at least 12 volumes. Each hard cover volume is nearly the same width of a Vizbig. It’s a longer story than Pluto.
Also, the manga is very dense in content. The art is highly detailed and is important to the atmosphere, which is one of the coolest ever in ANY medium. Akira is a 10/10 masterwork.
13:07 Love that panelling, so many manga just have basic square boxes for panels, I love seeing panelling like this. Probably my favourite panels from any manga is in Ayakashi Triangle, every page is completely different from the last, Yabuki will draw a large character on the page and then wrap the panels around them, it looks so good.
As someone who is just starting to get into manga, thank you for this list! I want to read them all. Not sure where to start. Taiyo Matsumoto's Tokyo These Days is the book that started me down this path. I am big fan of his art style.
You should have set it under 8 volumes so I could have put Pluto on there, it’s my favourite shorter manga, and it has a new anime coming out that I’m so hyped for.
@@ThePromG it reminded me more of Tokyo Ghoul but I can see the comparison. Devilman is definitely one of the most important manga with everything inspired by it.
I only have 2 series that are under 6 volumes long, and they’re both Ecchi series haha, Hybrid Heart & Saki the Succubus. Oh ok if you’re counting Akira I have that too, they’re absolutely beautiful hardcovers, it’s the nicest box set I’ve seen.
You should scope out I'll Give It My All... Tomorrow by Shunju Aono. 5 volumes long. It's HILARIOUS, relatable, and does the whole "40 year loser trying to find himself" very well. While the art doesn't look similar, it gives similar vibes to Mob Pyscho 100 where it's not the greatest art, but it matches the atmosphere and tone of the story so well. What's a nice bonus too are the volumes have this nice matte finish and overall feel high quality. It's somewhat obscure so I anticipate it will go OOP in the coming years.
I am VERY new to Manga. Literally bought Solo Leveling volume 1 on the weekend to break me in with a book that reads left to right and is in colour. I have a decent sized collection of graphic novels which are predominantly superheroe based and I recently got in to buying single issues so that isn't going away any time soon. Thanks for this list. I've heard Astra on a few lists, so it's on mine and definitely plan to get Akira and also Ghost In The Shell. Planetes is new to me and I love sci-fi which is what most novels have been that I read. Thanks again

Akira may be 6 books long but each book is basically twice the size of a typical volume. Overall 2400 pages which is about 12 volumes. Surprised to see onani master kurasawa. The reason it doesn't have a physical release is cause its a doujin. I know the auther has another work. And from the research looks just as degenerate lol. I'd also recommend Fire punch - Set during a sort of mini ice age. About revenge but with a plot twist. You ain't gonna predict shit with this manga. Any shuzo oshimi work such as flowers of evil and inside mari. They are a bit longer being around 10 volumes. But the best thing about him is how easy it is to read his work. Can't stop cursing you: Similar to death note. Its like a cat and mouse situation involing curses and rules. Emma: a victorian romance I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year: Shit is sad and depressing Bloom into you: A lesbian romance.
Just got into manga and I picked up the Akira box set Hellsing deluxe 1-3 and Blame! Vol 1&2. I feel like these will be worth money definitely at some point. They just don’t make the new stuff like the old. I’m really into dark gritty horror and sci-fi.
Fourth!

Yes is like 3500 pages
If you like Onanie Master Kurosawa, I recommend Chikan Otoko, which is another manga by the same mangaka. I personally think it's even better

Sailor Moon had very cute designs for the panels. Old manga did that a lot more than now I noticed, many 4-komas
Thanks for putting me on Onanie Master Kurosawa! Its so good
Always love to see others who love the series, deserves more attention!
If I were making this list, I would most likely include Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind
My personal favorites are Hiraeth: The End of the Journey (3 volumes) and Our Dreams At Dusk (4 volumes), both by Yuhki Kamatani!

Still need to pick this one up, thanks for the reminder!

Yeah I was between 6 and 8 volumes, but ultimately decided 6 so I would have an easier time narrowing down a list haha
My favourite short manga is probably Parasyte. The series felt like it was the perfect length and was good all the way through.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Parasyte on my first read, kinda felt like a less cool version of Devilman. Need to go back and read it again for sure

i have read it it is soo good it resonates with me
do you have similar manga recommendations
if there is similar comedy i will be delighted
it's 8 volumes but I would highly recommend
"Welcome to the N.H.K."
there is anime as well.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Fantastic video! Some awesome recommendations in there too - I really gotta get on some of these, especially Planetes and Astra Lost in Space!
Easy recommendations for me, I think you’ll love em both 🙌

Onani Master Kurosawa😭 that's how you know ThePromG is a real one
Me and the devil blues is one of my favorite short series out there although it’s only short because it’s on hiatus 😞
Ah this is one I completely forgot about, definitely need to give it a read soon
never heard anyone talk about it our happy hours, 8 chapters and really good.
This is a great list; what I’ve read from it is awesome and the stuff I haven’t read looks really good.
As a 28 year old with no real outlook on life besides being in a band solanin hit home for me
Also what kinda music you make dude? Id love to check it out
One of my favorite short manga is Route END; it is cheating a little bit it is 8 volumes but it the best mystery/thriller I have ever read
Thanks for this!
Would love to hear what your favorite One Shots are next.
I'm a horror guy, so I'm definitely reading Devilman!
Battle angel alita (9) and psyren (16) are probably mine
Idk if I’d call Psyren “short” per day but yeah both series are amazing
@@ThePromG yeah definitely a longer short series lol compared to most battle shonen it’s pretty short
8:21 Oh haha, they changed the spine design halfway through, why do they do that?
Anything over 5 volumes is long to me tbh. Or rather, I usually read digitally so I think more in chapters. 40+ chapters is long lol
second!! i’m new to your channel but i literally love your content! keep being awesome :)
So glad you’re here! Thank you 🥹
@@ThePromGYou’re welcome! i’ll def be sure to read most of these, great list
Astra lost in space.
Akira.
Both bangers!

a a silent voice i also great but its 7 volumes
adam and eve is a good short manga, its got a crazy ending 😂😂
I know I'm late, but... It's not long... It's 10 volume manga. Happiness.
You know he put Akira at 7 to generate chat. However it is a double offense, one of which is a capital one.
