Thanks for this vlog, I've just ordered one thank-you, loving the channel and great content, fellow sib owner 👍👍👍
Absolute legend! This has explained it so much clearer than the instructions. Yeah sure its maybe easier to use a computer, then I suppose you could say its easier to just get someone else to do it!
Great video mate 👍🏻
Love the feel of the radio it feels real real rugged and bold great video thank you again 🌞🌞🌞
Pleasure, I’m glad it helps
Really helpful video! Saved me hours and hours. Nice work 👌🏻
No worries, I’m glad it could help you.
It's a real well-made radio and it's as good as icom Kenwood an yaesu 👍
Jake, thank you, thank you, thank you! I struggled for a while to program this radio, despite viewing your video about three times. Then I carefully wrote down your instructions in a step by step mode and have finally cracked it, woo hoo, so happy! My wife said why don't you ask our son to help out, well he/they are really tech savvy but I just wanted to do it for myself. My life philosophy has always been that anyone can give up, but winners never do, you never know how close your are to succeeding, it may be just that one last effort that gets it all sorted. I am in my eighth decade on this wonderful planet so sometimes it takes me a bit longer to understand this technology now available which youngsters take for granted. Thank you once again for your great videos, might I ask when you have time to explain a few of the many other options that appear on the menus. I wish you all success in life and in the fishing competitions.
Good evening, I’m so pleased that this video has helped you program your radio. I’m still using this very radio and i rate it highly. It’s out powered many expensive marine radios. To be honest I have never used many of the other settings. Just dual watch. Thanks again and I hope this radio works well for you. Just in salt water clean the back battery terminals each use 😋
What is weather frequency
Brilliant Thank you for this, you made it look so much easier than others have made it look 👍 just getting everything sorted for our first sib outing 😁
I do try to keep things simple! Good luck and hope you enjoy it!
You have an awesome channel man thank 👍
Thank you for your kind words
Cheer dude, just bought one, I'll have to watch the vid again when it arrives on Thursday. 👍
Any questions just fire away, you can set it for duel watch aswell, and set it so that it just broadcasts on channel A or B and not both 👍🏼
@@MuscleFishingOfficial hi Jake did you see my other text about setting up my new Kayak?
@@leephillips1538 I believe I replied mate 👍🏼
@@MuscleFishingOfficial ah I've just seen it mate, your a diamond. I'm not on Facebook but my wife is so I'll get her to have a look when she's not on Instagram. 😂😂 I do alot of shooting so if that something you'd like to have a go at then I'm my more than happy to introduce you my sport. 👍
Hey thanks for a great video.
No problem at all, glad it could help. Thanks for watching
you didn't explain, but you need to add offset (usually 4.6MHz) for the duplex channels that are used to communicate between ships and the shore. for example, if you are in trouble and talking to the coast guard, they will likely ask you to move to one of the duplex channels.
if they ask you to move to channel 1 to talk then they won't be able to hear you, because they will be listening on 160.650MHz, and transmitting on 156.050MHz
Thank you!
Great video, I bought a UV5R last year for using on the boat as well as home scanning and using in a convoy for road trips.
It has been great and I have just upgraded to the UV9R Plus so I can have a waterproof version for using on boat/ Road trips and the UV5R for home scanning.
I would like to offer some advice and say these type of radios are not legal for marine use as they aren't approved for marine use.
I use mine as a personal radio for myself on our boats with two or more people, who have there own personal radios plus the vessels own 25W marine radio as well.
My radio is one of at least three on the vessel and isn't the primary radio for communication in an emergency.
I wouldn't recommend buying this as your only source of emergency communication, it will be better as an addition to equipment you already own.
A secondary radio for on a boat, yacht, small tender or in a dry bag on a kayak is great as they are so cheap and a £25 radio with questionable waterproofing is better than no backup radio.
But, a dedicated handheld marine radio from a reputable brand (ICOM, Entel, Cobra, Standard Horizon to name a few) which is designed and approved for marine use is the safest way to enable communication in an emergency.
Buy these Baofengs as a back up and a cool radio for multiple uses. You can use them for PMR 446(overpowered) Business radios (licence) Marine (licence, as a back up) and road trips, camping etc like a do.
I found out only just recently you shouldn’t technically use these for marine. I have spoken to a few anglers that have fully dunked them in the sea and one was dragged for over a mile and still worked perfectly.
It’s better to have something than nothing and I feel that this radio offers that. I also carry a PLB and waterproof phone. 3 sources of contact so I’m happy carrying this is my primary radio.
Thanks for the watch and comments. It’s interesting to read 👍🏼
Thanks!
Yes my brother!
Great video.
I play airsoft often and I'm thinking to get one but do I need a license for it??
Let me know plz.
Many thanks👍🏼
Nice n helpful video. One question thou. what do you do with channels that have different ship/shore frequencies? How does it work with a standard marine radio?
Just add $30 and buy and icom marine handheld that has duplex and floatss on water. But for the price this is probably the best in all other situations.
Hello, i am trying to configure vhf72 channel. (Simplex) It's marine channel. I recieved but i cant send any signals. Do you have a suggestion?
recomiendo a nadie.
Saludos.
mines says DIGITALMBILERADIO on it (missing an O) and they're clearly not digital.... :/
Much easier if you buy the programming cable and use chirp software from a PC
I agree, however it doesn’t come with the lead and I’m happy to take 20 minutes programming it, if I had multiple radios I would certainly be using the PC
@@MuscleFishingOfficial I’ve used chirp for maybe 15 radios, but via this video I just added a channel manually for the first time 😂
@@briantheminer much easier on a computer but I’m glad this video helped you do it 👍🏼thanks for watching
Hi lve been watching your utube videos esp sib fishing boat. Very interesting!!! Anyway regarding to this emergency radio, lm profoundly Deaf and it’s useless to me and l wonder if you know any other way for Deaf people to signal for help etc
That’s a very interesting topic. There is 2 ways of what I can think of. way you could get help quickly in an emergency is a flare. (Someone would need to see it though to alert coastguard) 2nd is a PLB, you click one button and a emergency call is automatically sent to coastguard. Giving vessel details, persons details and a GPS location, however the location doesn’t update. So only is a real help if at anchor or a bit of a slow drift. Saying that it’s better than nothing as you have coastguard out looking for you
Hi Jake, my new kayak arrive this morning. I could really do with some advice mate on setting this one up before I start on it. Any chance you could have a look at it for me bud. Kind regards lee
If you give me a email at jakehdavison@hotmail.co.uk and will give you my phone number 👍🏼
@@MuscleFishingOfficial cheers Jake I really appreciate it. Will drop you an email mate. 👍
@@leephillips1538 we will sort it out so it’s all ready for the summer
Hi mate, thank u for the information, I got one to now 👌, about the fishing time, do I have to fish on high tide , haven’t I got any chance on low tide thank u again
Nope, you can fish any ride. If I’m on the kayak a low to high is fantastic. A high to low tends not to be as good in Eastbourne but it all depends on tide types aswell.
@@MuscleFishingOfficial u are star thank u
@@coolstaff3619 no problem, anytime
Very good emo of programming... before I saw this I inadvertently did something to make it quit transmitting. I can hear my buddies talking on ch 01 but when I try to call they cannot hear me (they could fine the first two trips so I must have done something..... any ideas?
You may have turned off your transmit. So your only receiving. See what icon the screen has. Then find the menu which corrosponds to that icon. Change the setting and see what happens, alternatively reset to factory setting and program again
@@MuscleFishingOfficial thank you for your time and assistance 🙏🏼

Hi Jake. How do you set up the duplux channels for the Uk marine bands. And do you have the offset to do this.
In this video I am setting up for UK marine channel. If you google the frequency and tune it to the channel it will correspond
I have a similar model uv-18 and it's semi-duplex as this is too. I don't think you can store a duplex channel. But on mine you can manual use duel watch by manually setting the frequency of the station you want to listen too and have another frequency to talk with.
Just to clarify, you still need to hold Marine VHF licence in order to operate it unless there is an imminent danger to ones life.
Maybe worth buying for a spare.
Thanks Jake..
It also lets people know they need a licence to use!
B
A lot of people don’t know about the licence, I want to get a group of kayakers in the summer to do the coarse. I did one years ago but would be nice to have a refresher and it be more geared towards kayakers and anglers not yachting, thanks for watching and I would say a great addition to your kit👍🏼
Not sure if you are allowed to use vhf radio for shore to shore broadcasts!!
@@danielheffernan4220 you can use the PMR licence free channels. Like any company would use with walkie talkies. This radio can program any frequency including the PMR licence free frequencies 👍🏼
@@MuscleFishingOfficial hi, what are the free to use pmr channels?
Many thanks.
@@michaelaris58 446.1- 446.2 MHz this is the frequency you can use without the licence requirement
Great video but this radio doesn’t work for me I can’t get any signal, standing on the Worthing pier 300 yards of the coast gourd station getting absolutely nothing (set to ch16 156.800) unlucky as usual
I wonder if there may be a setting you have it on. I have found this radio has gone up to 5 miles for me in range at sea with no buildings or cliffs in the way. Does the FM radio work?
I spent hours on UA-cam and online forums tried different settings and reset to factory settings a couple of times nothing helps defensively broken
PS FM radio works fine
How do you get the licence for ofcom what do I need to put into the list to register it with them
www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-licence/radiocommunication-licences/online-licensing-service
You need to apply for your radio licence. This is registered to the vessel. They will give you a MMSI number. You also require legally a operators licence to use a VHF. However in a emergency please use it regardless of what licence or qualifications you have
Need to know what to put in the boxes when filling it out
@@craigbaldwin9085 I believe it’s a ship portable radio licence. It is rather confusing and a simple guide doesn’t really exist. Once you have the licence you should be able to apply for a MMSI number when registering your radio
Hi does this connect to the other Baofeng handsets ok?
I have a set of uhf400-470mhz
If they are on the same frequency you won’t have any issues 👍🏼
@@MuscleFishingOfficial thank you :)

any difference on UV5R and uv9r
The uv-9r is waterproof and the 5r is not 👍🏼
UV5R - 4watt power and not waterproof (glorified by youtubers) / UV9R - 5watt power and waterproof (and nicer looking)
How do you work the fm radio? I’ve scanned all frequency’s and found nothing☹️
Top button on the side while in any mode. Then click scan bottom left button from memory

@@MuscleFishingOfficial great channel by the way… I’ve just started out…. Bought a smaller kayak like you (green one) first.. but just purchased a pedal kayak this morning… 👍🏻
@@nickwaters1142 I would say so yes. Yes can’t get many channels in certain places, odd because in a car you get the radio the whole time.
@@nickwaters1142 awesome!! You will love it. I still prefer my kayak to my SIB 🤫

@@MuscleFishingOfficial hi,so what's the difference between this and a marine radio
I'm looking for a budget marine radio
