Great job! love how it all fits in the original case. Also loved the easter egg at the end glad I hung around for it. I wonder how many people will miss it!!
Lol that really cracked me up, so much effort, so little return (well from the little one, it looks like you had a blast!). Double plus points for the 4 handed multimeter shit!
Thanks! Always the way with kids, one minute they're interested, the next they're not, then they are again, then they're just embarrassed their Dad's on UA-cam.

Fisher Price NEEDS to make an actual controller, all the buttons and stuff, it would be awesome! Too bad your daughter wasn't in the mood for gaming tho, lol And now I think the next challenge should be turning the Fisher Price gameboy toy into an actual gameboy...
Yeah it wouldn’t have taken much for them to add it as an extra option to the controller. Then it really would have grown with them. I do have one of the gameboy toys. Not sure if I’ll convert it though. Thanks for watching
@@RetrogradeScene I assume they thought adding more buttons would be too much for kids, but honestly I disagree lol In any case they have the chance to modify the original and customize it to add the missing buttons. Even as a toy I'd love to have one lol
"I fear for my (50$~90$) controllers, so I'm going to spend many man-hours of research, development, prototyping, to build a hacked-together one from expensive parts that has limited functionality" This man's an engineer alright. Snarkyness aside, great job! For version 2 maybe you can loom into co-pilot functions so you can help your daughter play more complicated games by assisting with your own, fully featured controller. Maybe by having the prototype controller act as a bluetooth host that pairs to a real controller, and pipe its inouts through via the guest bluetooth connection to the "game console" its paired with? 🤔
@@RetrogradeScene Xbox has this function built-in, its part of their (rather impressive) accesibility functions. But, I mean, how cool would it be to have it on the device itself
I wish more controllers nowadays went all out with their style like these. Granted, probably not with things like D-Pads intentionally skewed off at a tilted angle, but the button shapes and color scheme give it character even more than the quite literal characterization of the added face.
What a great idea! Would be funny to do this with something that has buttons but doesn't look like a controller, like a broken camera or a bluetooth mp3 speaker xD
Ugh, looking at the thumbnail, I can just SMELL the caked on gunk that is inevitable with anything a toddler touches. Random sticky patches, dried up who knows what, random bodily fluids (those fingers get everywhere they can). The one thing nobody mentions about having a kid is how everything you own will be covered in a layer of this crud for at least the first 3 years of your kid's life. Usually twice that. Especially if siblings are involved. ESPECIALLY WITH TWINS. Do not miss that.
Great work on this, for me I would just cheat slightly and use an 8bitdo Zero2 board since it does all the bluetooth, battery, and system compatibility stuff in the same size package as this board.
Honestly- while I could make the completely missing the point statement that you shouldve just gotten her a gamecube controller (or the nyxi warrior) I think it would be really cool to try fit an 8bitdo gamecube replacement board into one of these, it would give you the sticks needed and triggers- youd only need to add a start button and a single bumper (two buttons if you wanted a dedicated select as well but youd have to do further modding for that anyway)
Followed along but had a quick question on the wiring/programming. Did you use the debounce function in the ESP32-Gamepad library? And/or use the ESP32 built in pull-up resistor for the inputs before just cutting the traces? Not like I'm trying to save the sounds (trying to save my sanity!) but mostly for my own understanding. Thanks!
Hi I did write a version using the debounce but was having issues with it so the version that’s on there doesn’t use it. I did mean to go back and try it again as I’m sure it was something I didn’t have quite right. I also tried using the built in pull up resistor as I was hesitant to cut the traces. But I couldn’t get it to work and in the end didn’t thing it was worth the time to play around with to save the board, like you I was secretly glad to loose the sounds. Also it would take much to fix the traces if needed. I did consider adding in my own sounds but felt I needed to work on something else for a bit. Thanks for watching and good luck with yours.

super interesting video!
