- "Under the Bridge" is a song by the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was released as the second single from their fifth studio album, "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," in 1992. The song was written by the band members Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante, and Chad Smith.
"Under the Bridge" is a heartfelt and introspective song that reflects lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis' struggle with addiction and feelings of loneliness. The lyrics describe his experiences and emotions while living in Los Angeles, particularly focusing on his connection to a specific location, which was a bridge over the Los Angeles River. Kiedis expresses a sense of isolation, but also finds solace and a sense of belonging in music.
The song became a major hit for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. It is widely regarded as one of their signature songs and has been praised for its poignant lyrics, melodic composition, and emotional delivery. "Under the Bridge" remains a staple of the band's live performances and continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. - Розваги
The lyrics of this song was in Anthony Kiedis journal. It was in a poem about his drug addiction. I think the producer Rick Rubin convinced him to make it a song. “Soul to Squeeze” is another good ballad
They have always been labeled alternative rock. Always hear punk, rap, rock..little bit of everything. Blood Sugar Sex Magic was/is a classic album and in my top 10 formative eras for me.
The lyrics tell of Anthony's loneliness when he was on drugs and his race is towards freedom from drugs. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
HUGE hit back in the day. This song alone was probably enough to buy them all mansions. Great band from the 90s. Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik one of their best.
Peppers were active long before Grunge I think the song is about herion addiction
No, it's about LA City
@@Milenial_QuejosoI think it's both, from what I know it's Anthony's experience being ducked out on heroin in LA, literally "under the bridge."
It’s about his herion addiction

One of their Classics. Beautiful Song.
Yay! This whole album is so good. This one was a huge hit.
Anthony has some 🔥🔥🔥 tattoos! 🎶🎵
You should do Can't Stop. The song is fire and the video is conceptual and artistic as hell.. Can't stop the spirits when they need you. This life is more than just a read through.
the guitar work on this one always grabs me by the ovaries and won't let go. LOVE this song
John Frusciante
No doubt! This one grabs me by the plumbs
Beautiful Anthony.
An emotional ride which I could relate to and think many others do too. 💕
From a good time in my life! 🤘
what a classic
My favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers would be Scar Tissue. But Under the Bridge is great too, video included. It may be shallow but it doesn't hurt that here the lead singer Anthony Kiedis looks as good as he sounds in it. Another song you might want to react to (besides Scar Tissue) could be "Higher Ground" a cover that the Chilis did of the old Stevie Wonder song.
My favorite song of thiers
Been watching for a minute. Now you subbed up.
Edit: CR you lookin like Papa Klumps cooler brother... You digest that as you choose😆
This song, more than any other, reminds me of the 90s. I hear it on the radio, and suddenly, I'm back in high school, reading a X-Men comic, wondering if I can use the plot for a Dungeons & Dragons game.
Oh yes…. Addiction is the theme
Producer Rick Rubin regularly visited singer Anthony Kiedis to review his new material. He found a poem titled "Under the Bridge" in Kiedis's notebook and took an interest in the poignant lyrics. Rubin suggested that Kiedis show it to the rest of the band. Anthony wrote the poem while reflecting on loneliness and the struggles of being clean from drugs (Wiki). 😊
Grunge was a regional thing, that included a wide range of bands out of the Pacific Northwest that played loud, heavy, punk- inspired music - it was not strictly a style of music. Chili Peppers were from Los Angeles.
Haven't heard this since I went out with the (English) ex- girlfriend of a Red Hot Chili Pepper (can't rememebr which one) and she played this but I was into classical music then. Now of course I recognise this perfectly well. And it's good.
off that album my favorite tracks are I COULD HAVE LIED and the title track BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK, later on I like HEY and STRIP MY MIND.
Drew some blood underneath the bridge is were Anthony used heroine. Great song and reaction.
Anthony Keidas wrote this song about his heroin addiction. Very emotional.
Apache Rose Peacock!
This is called Alternative Rock. It's a little different and more chill than rock.
They were not grunge! I remember them being considered: Alternative/ Punk/Rock. I only know because I was there! l also believe, due to all the new sounds of the 90s, no one really knew what to call stuff. I believe different radio stations around the US may have called it differently, due to different locations calling it different names. Ultimately, I believe it was their fans that properly named them. Ask them!
When are yall gonna
Introduce Youngblood to sone early live Parliament Funkadelic Mothership connection. Try Cosmic Slop Live in Houston 1970 Funk Rock at its finest.
Amazing pre grunge band although labeled grunge! About Anthony keidis heroin addiction
Originally the RHCP have been a funk band! They moved more towards alternative rock. Try: Suck my kiss from the same album !Its as funky as it can get! Unbelievable!
Not Grunge. The Peppers were releasing albums in the early to mid 80's and had some commercial success by the late 80's before Grunge came on the scene. Their musical genre would be a combination of Funk Rock, Rap Rock and Funk Metal.
This song became a surprise hit right before the FREAKING
"RODNEY KING RIOTS IN L.A" So I don't think back FONDLY ON 1992 even though I love grunge and alternative.
More RHCP would be good. Much like Eddie V. of Pearl Jam, we really didn’t care that we couldn’t understand what he was actually saying. His voice was just another instrument. My favorite RHCP somg is “Snow (Hey, Oh)” because I love the guitar work. Now, as far as grunge goes….when I think of grunge, I think Alice in Chains. They were my favorite and their Dirt album was a masterpiece. Soundgarden was a close second for me.
Just don’t let anyone tell you to do AIC’s MTV Unplugged versions. Layne was sick and almost listless there. Just do the original versions, especially “Rooster”.
Red Hot were more of a funky grunge. Kinda their own box
RHCP are punk-funk.
His drug addiction
He's native Americans
Speaking of Flea. Alanis Morrisett's You Oughta Know. Flea has a knarly bass line. Song is great female anthem!
Not grunge.
Just alternative Rock.
Will Smith is a beautiful runner! Far superior to Tiny Tom (Cruise) & so is Will's son, Jaden (After Earth).
Not grunge.
peppers grunge lmao do some homework fellas
Sorry. Too much yipyap through the song.
Why are these guys making a joke out of a meaningful song…
Flea played bass on Young MCs big track... you know the one. Hes even in the video.
