Real folks right there. I could sit and just listen to the stories until they run out of them. I cried hearing that story about Maggie giving that boy a soda and a candy bar. What an amazing family I'm so glad I found this channel. I'm going to watch everyone and then plan a trip to visit the stores and places I'll be able to get to. Thank you for sharing these with us. I look at these folks as if they were my own relatives. The stories they share tell of life's hardships but you can hear the love and joy in all of them.

I have been watching Greasy Hollow Memories for the last week during my knee rehab. This is one of my favorites. What a wonderful tribute! I could just listen to those stories for hours. I live about an hour from Ralph in upper E. Tennessee, and I love exploring the hidden and forgotten places, but your series has made me realize it's the people that make this area special.

What an amazing American family! I would love to see a series of videos of Ralph's daughter just going through their days. They are an amazing, loving family that has been through so much.
Nobody but nobody loves your videos as much as I!
You did right buy unshackling yourself from the store, instead of going out to show America that most of us know nothing about. The historical aspect itself is priceless.
You have an uncanny ability for interviewing and sensitivity for capturing the right things.

You didn’t have to live in Appalachia to live this life. In rural Alabama we did everything thing this family did. Listen to the girls brought tears to my eyes. I remember my sweet mama working her fingers to the bone taking in laundry and cleaning other people’s houses to buy what we needed when school started back. We even had a Lisa that came along late and we watched her while my mom was working. It was amazing when they said their mama went to work at the shirt factory because believe it or not so did mine. I remember how thrilled everyone was when we found out that the shirt factory was coming to town because it meant jobs for the women in the county. Blessings to this family.

@@theappalachianchannel q1 more than welcome! Thank you for sharing Appalachia with me & all of the sweet people, their families & your Mom! The people remind me so of my own fzmily. The store's remind me of t Cove Store in West Asheville that was by my Aunts & i got to walk over there all the time. The places you explore are so awesome!! I love Church's, streams, trout, homes, history, scenery, and the Springs absolutely amaze me. The huge one you went to was Grand!! I've seen many, but none that big!
      I wish you safe travels!
I'm glad you're hitting the numbers you need because I'd tell anyone that you're very deserving of this accomplishment. You ramble all over for your job, you have patience with people and that's a blessing. I said enough now, i know, but its all the truth.
      God bless and keep you.
Ill chat more soon. Thank you!!

I love the story when your Mother gave the kid the candy bar when he couldn’t afford it, that sums it up,for me what a kind and considerate woman she must have been. Thank you and the photos and video reels are precious. I love Appalachian history, being Irish it resonates with me somehow, maybe because of all the Irish immigration to these parts. Thanks for the comment and watching the video. It was a great honor for me to make almost 40 videos with Ralph Robertson that I filmed over a two year period. Since his passing in December they have been a surge in his video views here on UA-cam. The series was first posted a few years back on Facebook but at that time the UA-cam Channel only had about 2k subscribers. Now that I’m at over 100k subs “The Greasy Hollow Memories” videos have found a whole new audience.. Come along with me to Greasy Hollow, Tennessee and meet a real Appalachian storyteller that became a living legend. Below is a link to the Greasy Hollow Memories series if you would like to watch more. John Ward

Life must be easier and cheaper to survive in TN. Up north here in Maine, a quart of heavy cream even bought from a farm is 7.00 and at a store it is more. Cigarettes are near 10.00 a pack and real butter costs 4.00 for 4 sticks. I raise my own chickens pigs and beef, because I can't afford grocery store meats nor do I trust it. God Bless you all there in TN. ❤️

Kentucky is cheaper too. You all up north paying way to much for things. There's a lot of money made here from Coal not sure if that's part reason. High enough here but not what you all pay.

Women used to make watermelon rind pickles! Or green tomato pickles,or chow-chow relish made out of the end of summer garden vegetables. I've heard of some makes preserves out of cantaloupe or watermelon,or all kinds of berries. They used everything they could to cook & can up!! Talking about what they had for breakfast, some people I knew years ago,& she was an elderly lady then, she would go shoot a squirrel,or kill a chicken to cook for breakfast, and make biscuits with gravy, maybe have fried potatoes, fried eggs. Or whatever they had left from the night before, whether fried fish, chicken, or squirrel. Maybe cold cornbread or biscuits.
