@@entigi1784 6 speed torque converter, similar transmission in the other c6 cars and maybe some other models back then, but seems pretty sluggish in the 5.2, 8 speed zf would be amazing
The 5.2 fsi in this and the s6 may not be the most powerful or paired with the fastest shifting transmission, but man they are fun to drive especially with that exhaust note in the background the whole time 😩
And its a bedroom on 4 wheels lol

I got one of these last christmas, the noise from the standard exhaust system is way to muffled which to be fair to audi is spot on for who they was selling the car too when it rolled of the production line. Men in suits trying to look respectable but now the cars have aged a decade and the second generation of owners have come along who let's face it bought the car for the v10 the rest of the goodies on the car is just a bonus. The exhaust even when the cars going flat out is so quiet. They have 4 tail pipes 2 of which have flaps that open as soon as you plant the throttle but even so its far to quiet, I had the 4 centre exhaust silencers removed leaving just the 2 backboxes and also had the 2 flaps in the rear boxes opened permanently. Its now awesome. At low rpm it just sounds powerful but civilised, plant the throttle and all hell breaks loose.
Good idea! I have one as well got it last year and I agree way to muffled .. Same as my A8 4.2 too muffled . You got yours done by a muffler shop?

A s8 v10 isn't a drag race speed demon, where it shines at is on long highways, don't get me wrong, it is a fast car but if you are actually looking for sports car speed then get a sports car. There are not a lot of cars till this day that will blow by you at highway speeds, its mid range power is incredible and when you want to drive like a mad man running from the police, put it in manual and use the paddle shifters and it actually feel like you're driving a Gallardo. Numbers and specs don't do this car justice, you got to actually drive a s8 v10 and you will see what is special about it and the v10 engine. Nose bleeding speed isn't everything, its how the power and speed is delivered is more important to me. This car is 10 years old and a lot of new cars still can't match its performance unless you go to the new s8 plus, rs7,f10 m5,f12 m6 ect. of course exotic cars, but this is the best car for the money, period.
wow! I'm debating pulling the trigger, but what you said is spot on....I've never had such a feeling of inexorable thrust as I've experienced with this engine. I worry about longevity, but hey, life is short. Thanks for your descriptive analysis.

@@GiancarloDiamond it depends on the miles and condition of both cars. If you can find a decent mileage, good condition manual m5 then I would go for that over an Audi s8 v10. Both cars come with issues honestly but if we are just talking about driving feeling then the m5 has it beat, but if you're looking for an exclusive daily driver that still have enough speed to have fun with then the s8 is for. It just come down to preference.
@@GiancarloDiamond Depends what you want more of out of the car. I own both. The M5 is the more engaging sporty feeling car. The S8 is still fun to drive but the more practical car that you can easily drive as a daily driver.

Wow that's a pretty nice ride, with a sweet V10 in it. The whole thing is just sweet and fairly quick actually, i mean considering the size, the weight, and the age of it.
And it's nice because now we can get those for a decent price, Golf R money for a good one. That's one cool video as well, thanks guys ;)

+J0lker No ! I'm okay with the S8 V10 not sounding like a Gallardo, S85, or Carrera GT because the sound it produces, which is not loud and mad but just sweet, goes perfectly with the kind of car it is.
You just leave it stock and enjoy your ride ;)

You know that times used to be better, when a freaking limousine would sound like this one does! A shame the design looks so old now.
I think they aged very well and still look like new cars.
I disagree about the design. The newest model luxury sedans are still replicating the same form factor of an '04 Audi A8, not to mention the build quality of these cars is amazing, right down to how the buttons feel to press. Once you get out of these into pretty much any modern car, you'll be able to tell the days of high quality fixtures and fitments are long gone...
@@bmci007 i have the a8 4.0tdi v8, the old grill, had it chipped so now the same power as the 4.2tdi, drove my bosses 2016 e class the other day and it felt horrible compared.

Koullex I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly... Woods are an option. Carbon fiber is standard on S8s I believe.

Honestly, for a car this big and comfortable, I prefer wood anyway.

Having had a regular A8 at the time, I had one of these for a test drive about 10 years ago. Wasnt impressed. Didnt buy.
At the time it was only about 50 hp down compared to the Gallardos implementation, but in practice it was just so immensely tuned down that it felt anemic, breathless and constrained all the time and NOWHERE even near what the engine could do in a Gallardo. Of course I wasnt expecting the exact same thing in a large limo, but it was really drastically behind. After all that, the sluggish gearbox then took away what little performance was left.
Quite good sound though, real engine sound. And it did guzzle quite heavily - 10 mpg.

@@user-vt6yz3ef5y As such it is still a good car, its spacious, its not loud at all inside, its relatively comfortable (the suspension is a lot firmer on the S8), it rides acceptably well, its definitely very safe and any Audi or VW dealership can service it. However, this car, that used to sell for really top dollar and is still popular due to the V10 engine, dropping down to 10k must mean there is something wrong with it - its either had an accident or there is a lot that needs to done, in both cases they want to sell off the car cheap and quick. Both of these issues are bad on any car, but on this specific car they are deadly: Just the ceramic brakes are gonna cost 10k to replace (repair impossible). But even if the car is OK and was serviced and cared for properly, there is still the problem of the engine being really not too reliable, it likes to fail and it likes to fail expensively. So yeah, my bottom line is that this specific car is appealing, but its not suitable for a first/only/daily car these days and absolutely not without a warranty.

It sounds more like a V8 than a V10. Doesn't come close to the M5 V10 of the day in terms of sound.
The m5 revs out higher and its a much higher stress engine than this. Also the stock exhaust is very restrictive.

alvaroventin59 Eectronic limiter cuts power at 250 km/h, about 155 mph. But unlimited s8's can go up to 300 km/h or more, about 180-200 mph.
