    One thing that bothers me is that most dojos from any type of martial arts they never teach self defense. They concentrate purely on the art, but completely leave out self defense. I have trained for more than 11 years in Aikido and karate and I can count with my fingers the number of self defense techniques I have learned. Really sad 😞

      Just find a self defense focused BJJ school. In less than a year I learned most of these concepts from 3rd degree black belt, Keith Owen.

      U gotta use the techniques u learn in the martial art and incorporate them into a fight by urself. U need to find out what’s best for that specific situation

    Thank you for this -- some very intuitive moves, as well as the basic foundational ones. I'm going to incorporate some of these concepts & "nuggets" into my Torite routine I have to do for my 3rd dan Shotokan Karate test.

    So, typically, in my experience, when someone grabs you from behind it’s to help their buddy in front of you hit you without resistance from you. I’d like to see a counters to rear grabs that keep this tactical situation in mind rather than assuming you’re only fighting one person.
    For example, I would not want to counter the rear bear hug in such a way that I go down to the ground with him. Not when there’s a guy in front of me, punching me while I’m being held, and who will likely be kicking me in the head when I go to the ground to grapple with the attacker who grabbed me from behind.
    There’s not hardly any “defend against getting grabbed from behind while being punched in the face” instruction. This goes for all kinds of rear grabs; rear choke, full Nelson, half Nelson, grabbing both arms from behind, etc. All these defense instructions, not just videos, but also in person instructions. Everyone pretends you’ll only be facing one person. It doesn’t seem to matter what fighting system your training in, you’re only trained to face one person at a time. But in situations where there’s a guy grabbing you from behind, and he’s not an idiot that doesn’t know what he’s doing, he’s got a friend in front of you attacking you. Why? Because people who do that aren’t looking to see who’d win in a fight, they’re looking for a guaranteed win against a victim.

    What about a case where the attacker has one arm wrapped around your neck and is using a bar arm on the other?

    • @andrewlorenz2772
      @andrewlorenz2772 11 місяців тому

      If he’s strong enough he might just break your neck. Ive never seen someone who’s an actual threat only use one arm on a headlock.
      I bet this guy teaching could figure something out though. But he’s a trained professional who understands leverage

    I have a question about the rear bear hug escape with arms trapped. At 2:31 after you step behind the attacker, would a knee to the back of his leg work, or there isn't much room for an effective strike?

    • @OpenBiolabsGuy
      @OpenBiolabsGuy 2 роки тому

      Nah. Stick to using leverage to tip them over.

    Nice practical self defense, now I can use this to defend my self from kidnappers, especially here in our country kidnapping and selling internal organs is popular again. This video might save my life thanks !
