I just purchased one about a month ago and I could not read the firmware version level, nor could I find any updates for it on their site. So I sent it back to B&H photo. So decided to purchase from Amazon. I connected it to my computer try to see the firmware level and once again could not read it. Once again I went on Google to see if I was doing something wrong. However, all the videos back then were dated 2018. I then contacted Viltrox through Facebook and received two messages back from them, short and sweet. The first told me where to look on their site. Same problem, no info. Messaged them back that it was of no help, then they sent me another message with two firmware versions. They were 1.3 and 1.4. I looked up the changes on each one and the 1.4 was to allow the fifty nifty lens to retract all the way. Well my lens was doing that, but Viltrox is very vague on their information. Also, videos on UA-cam state after the firmware updates it will eject the Viltrox. Not so anymore, that has to be done manually. Yes I updated to 1.4 just to make sure I had the latest version, but you still cannot read the firmware level. So the long and the short of my post is for the people who are buying or did buy the latest speedbooster, u cannot go by the videos on UA-cam. Why? Because most videos have no published date and the older ones with dates do not contain the latest information. NOTE: this post is for WIN 10 only. I have no way to try the procedure on a Mac. I hope this is helpful to someone.

UPDATE: 10/15/20, I put my new Viltrox adapter on my nifty fifty lens. I took 4 pictures to make sure it was function. So the next test was to let it sit. After sitting for 4 days. The battery was totally dead. I messaged Viltox and their answer was not acceptable. " Hi this actually some hardware problem, Engineer feedback that this normal phenomenon, when not used to take off adapter lens and adapter, there is no solution for the moment." Those were the exact words, the grammar as you can see was not very good. Who else has this problem before I send it back with the lens? UPDATE10/29/20 - I took no action, Viltrox sent me a return message, so I filled in the blanks and the next day I sent it back, a new one was delivered which I signed for. Did the same test with the same results. So I'm not going to pursue it any longer and just have to remove lens with adapter when not using all the time. I personally firmly agree either Canon or Viltrox or both on a joint effort could make a change to eliminate the issue.
Nice video thanks, but to be accurate, in case anyone is accidentally misled by the statement at 1.43, It is impossible to actually convert a cropped frame sensor into a full frame sensor. It is possible to use lenses made for full frame sensors on crop frame sensor cameras, but the sensor will always be a cropped frame size, it will never be the same as a full frame sensor.
The viltrox projects down the full frame from full frame lenses' image to fit on a crop sensor. Full frame lens image gets compressed or focused down to fit on a crop sensor.
im buying the 50mm lens and like how that crops for more portrait style and better bokeh. so does mean I need to buy the canon adapter versus the viltrox because the viltrox would make the lens look wider full frame (kinda like the 22mm I have) ??
If you're goal is to get the best bokeh the speed booster will do a better job since it will bring the f1.8 to f1.2! Yes, technically you'll get a better portrait focal length with the canon adapter but it'll take the f1.8 of the 50mm to f1.2 which is a huge upgrade.

I just ordered the Canon M50 which will arrive in a week. I will order the speed booster by the end of the month. Your video was helpful by the way. As far as the battery life, I will see if the trick I came up with for my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera works with the Canon M50. I've also come up with a method to make the audio recording and boom pole much more mobile for an operator.

Depends on the type of lens. Are the 22mm and the 15mm lenses you're looking at EF or EF-S lenses? If yes, you would need an adapter. The M50 takes the M-mount lenses made specifically for the M line of Canon cameras.

Hi, at 3:35 there is an EF 70-200mm Lens on your M50. Are there any problems with the connection between the adapter and the lens? Because of the heavy weight of the lens im a lil bit affraid to buy a lens like this.

Freely, I have gone through al your video's and I thought I remember seeing how to update the viltrox EF EOS M2 0.71x update. Cannon has changed so many links on their site. I cannot find the latest link for the update. It's to my understanding there is a version 1.4 but I've spent hours trying to find it. Last time I updated I had no problems, but as I said, they've have inactive links and making things a bit tough. Do you have any idea where to find it and also, how can you tell which version is installed for that adapter. I've look at so many video's and they show a screen that do not match mine. Yes the focal length will be the same although the aperture might change but for the better. We tried an M50 + speed booster + 50mm and it brought the f/1.8 down to f/1.2! I might make a future video talking about it.
Canon web site claims EF-S lens used Via Mount Adapter EF-EOS M there is No cropping effect. Does this mean a Viltrox adapter will show no cropping effect when EF-S lens is used?

Hi there, it seems like the lens you bought is a Sony E mount lens which means it's compatible with Sony E mount cameras. As for the Canon M50 Mark II, it's an EF-M mount camera and it is not compatible with that lens. So I did some digging on if there's an adapter that would be able to adapt that lens you bought to the M50MkII and I wasn't able to find any. I found a forum where user's have discussed as to why that is the case that can be found here: www.quora.com/Can-I-use-a-Sony-e-mount-lens-on-an-EF-M-Canon-Camera-They-have-the-same-camera-flange-to-sensor-distance?share=1 So as of now, I don't know if there will be a way to mount that lens you bought on your camera. :/ I would recommend finding a lens just like the one you bought but make sure it's either an EF or EF-S mount lens. I mentioned this in the pinned comment of this video but the Canon adapter is able to adapt EF and EF-S lenses while the Viltrox Speedbooster will only be able to adapter EF lenses only so keep that in mind. Depends on what you want. The kit lens works fine for me since it's nice and wide. Unless you want a blurry background then you can use the speedbooster to adapt a f1.8 lens to achieve that.
why is that when I'm using the viltrox ef to efm adapter on my m3 the using the ef 50mm f1 8mk2 the af is very slow compared to when I using it on my 60d ?

Yes! That video would be really helpful, and I would definitely watch it to the end. PS, you can find cheap lens if you search through the amazon warehouse option. The stuff is cheaper because it was returned or maybe lost in delivery.

What would be awesome, is a comparison between using the m50 + normal lens adapter + 50mm lens and then the same thing but with the viltrox speed adapter. Also, what is the speed adapter like with the 4K? I know there is a crop when using 4K, and does the speed adapter sort of fix it? These two things would be great things to put in the video, (I think at least), because some people just think that off-brand stuff isn’t worth buying over main products AND many people complain about 4K footage has such a crop-rate and I think I heard the speed adapter makes the footage wider. Believe it or not, you can update the speed booster! There was an issue before for the speed booster where it would drain your camera battery when it's attached to your camera. The company made an update to the software on the speed booster to solve the problem. I suggest if you have it to update so you won't run into that problem.
Well the main point of the speedbooster is to have more light reach the sensor and to be able to mount EF lenses on your EOS M camera. The Canon 200D can already mount both EF and EF-S lenses on it. The speedbooster takes away the ability to mount EF-S lenses altogether

Hi Freely, I purchased the Viltrox adaptor and what I found was a bit un-nerving. I put the nifty fifty on it and did some test shots and it was kind of late so I turned the camerea off for the nite. The next day about 5pm I was going to do some more test shots only to find out the battery was dead. So I put my spare in and did some more shooting and turned the camera off to resume in the morning. Well the battery was dead again (I used the same battery after recharge). So I contacted Viltrox and received split answers, one said they will replace it, the second said basically it's a known issue but there's no fix for it yet. I received the new one in two days and put it on to make sure it's works, which it did. Soooo, I'm going to leave the adapter on but with a freash battery tonight and see what I get in the morning. I will advise.
Its called the Viltrox Ef-EOS M2 speed booster. Just make sure its the correct one thats compatible with Canon M line of cameras. I also have it linked my description
@@freeleymedia I went through all the list. I must have missed it. I will re check. One more thing, I purchased the Rhodes Micro mic and it would not work with my M50. So after talking with Rhodes and Canon, they both said the M50 needs a mic with it's own battery, or voltage supply.
@@freeleymedia Yes, I know of others as well that are using it. But my conversation with both companies are saying the M50 needs a powered mic. Go figure. Maybe there was a change from the dates that the camera was manufactured.
1. As long as it's an EF lens. The speed booster connects EF lenses to EF-M mount cameras. 2. It projects the full frame image to fit the crop sensor so yes you will get a full frame image. 3. Depends on you. If you have a bunch of full frame EF lenses laying around, it wouldn't make sense to sell of them and get their mirrorless counterparts. Although you can do that, it's gonna be expensive. I would buy the adaptor if you're sure you won't be using the speed boosters features and you only need an adaptor
24-70mm f/4 is a good choice: amzn.to/2UuC0YO 18-35mm is also really good: amzn.to/2UrZs93 Sigma has their version of Canon's lenses and their usually cheaper than the Canon counterpart so i'd suggest looking into those too.
Isnt thé crop taken care of by stepping back a few paces? So what's the big deal about the crop? Please explain because I really don't understand. It seems like a lot of money for the speed booster to avoid stepping back a bit, and I guess it's not really useful for a zoom lens. The regular budget adapters are less than $50 and they are all the same because there is no glass. They just change the distance between the lens and the sensor. I actually bought the viltrox speed booster, but I almost regret it. I say almost because there is some convenience And the best advantage is the extra F stop it gives you. The 50 mm 1.8 becomes a 1.2, which makes it worth the money if you do anything in low light. If it was only for the crop thing, I may not have purchased it. Thanks for the video. I can make a video! But before then, I can explain it in a nutshell. Basically, EF, EF-S and EF-M are all made by Canon. EF lenses are made for full-frame Canon cameras while EF-S lenses are made for crop sensor Canon cameras or what they call APS-C sensors. EF-S is compatible with both full-frame and crop sensor cameras while EF is only for full frame. EF-M on the other hand are only for the APS-C mirrorless cameras like the M50, M6 etc. With all that said, there are adapters like the ones in this video that allow the EF and EF-S mount lenses to be mounted onto the M50. I hope that makes sense! I'll hopefully make a video on this in the future!

Can you use the speed booster without the glass element I have one but I wanted to test the quality ?
The glass element is permanently attached to the adapter itself so you can't remove it.
I heard that the lens selection on the Viltrox is very limited ?
Only a few of the newer STM lenses actually work on it ?
Well as long as the STM lens has an EF mount, it should be compatible with the Viltrox speed booster

Canon web site claims EF-S lens used Via Mount Adapter EF-EOS M there is No cropping effect. Does this mean a Viltrox adapter will show no cropping effect when EF-S lens is used?

Hi there, it seems like the lens you bought is a Sony E mount lens which means it's compatible with Sony E mount cameras. As for the Canon M50 Mark II, it's an EF-M mount camera and it is not compatible with that lens. So I did some digging on if there's an adapter that would be able to adapt that lens you bought to the M50MkII and I wasn't able to find any. So as of now, I don't know if there will be a way to mount that lens you bought on your camera. :/ I would recommend finding a lens just like the one you bought but make sure it's either an EF or EF-S mount lens.
I mentioned this in the pinned comment of this video but the Canon adapter is able to adapt EF and EF-S lenses while the Viltrox Speedbooster will only be able to adapter EF lenses only so keep that in mind. I hope this helps!

Depends. Is that lens an EF lens or a EF-m? The Speedbooster allows the EF lenses to fit on the M50 and will reduce the 1.6x crop

You lose some image quality but it's not noticeable

Depends on what you want. The kit lens works fine for me since it's nice and wide. Unless you want a blurry background then you can use the speedbooster to adapt a f1.8 lens to achieve that.

If you're using the Canon adapter, you can use EF and EF-S lenses but if you have the speebooster then only EF lenses will work

Yes! That video would be really helpful, and I would definitely watch it to the end. PS, you can find cheap lens if you search through the amazon warehouse option. The stuff is cheaper because it was returned or maybe lost in delivery.

What would be awesome, is a comparison between using the m50 + normal lens adapter + 50mm lens and then the same thing but with the viltrox speed adapter. Also, what is the speed adapter like with the 4K? I know there is a crop when using 4K, and does the speed adapter sort of fix it?
These two things would be great things to put in the video, (I think at least), because some people just think that off-brand stuff isn’t worth buying over main products AND many people complain about 4K footage has such a crop-rate and I think I heard the speed adapter makes the footage wider.

Believe it or not, you can update the speed booster! There was an issue before for the speed booster where it would drain your camera battery when it's attached to your camera. The company made an update to the software on the speed booster to solve the problem. I suggest if you have it to update so you won't run into that problem.

Well the main point of the speedbooster is to have more light reach the sensor and to be able to mount EF lenses on your EOS M camera. The Canon 200D can already mount both EF and EF-S lenses on it. The speedbooster takes away the ability to mount EF-S lenses altogether

Hi Freely, I purchased the Viltrox adaptor and what I found was a bit un-nerving. I put the nifty fifty on it and did some test shots and it was kind of late so I turned the camerea off for the nite. The next day about 5pm I was going to do some more test shots only to find out the battery was dead. So I put my spare in and did some more shooting and turned the camera off to resume in the morning. Well the battery was dead again (I used the same battery after recharge). So I contacted Viltrox and received split answers, one said they will replace it, the second said basically it's a known issue but there's no fix for it yet. I received the new one in two days and put it on to make sure it's works, which it did. Soooo, I'm going to leave the adapter on but with a freash battery tonight and see what I get in the morning. I will advise.

@@freeleymedia I went through all the list. I must have missed it. I will re check. One more thing, I purchased the Rhodes Micro mic and it would not work with my M50. So after talking with Rhodes and Canon, they both said the M50 needs a mic with it's own battery, or voltage supply.
Is it the Rode Video Micro? I have the same one and it works with my M50
@@freeleymedia Yes, I know of others as well that are using it. But my conversation with both companies are saying the M50 needs a powered mic. Go figure. Maybe there was a change from the dates that the camera was manufactured.

1. As long as it's an EF lens. The speed booster connects EF lenses to EF-M mount cameras.
2. It projects the full frame image to fit the crop sensor so yes you will get a full frame image.
3. Depends on you. If you have a bunch of full frame EF lenses laying around, it wouldn't make sense to sell of them and get their mirrorless counterparts. Although you can do that, it's gonna be expensive. I would buy the adaptor if you're sure you won't be using the speed boosters features and you only need an adaptor

Isnt thé crop taken care of by stepping back a few paces? So what's the big deal about the crop? Please explain because I really don't understand. It seems like a lot of money for the speed booster to avoid stepping back a bit, and I guess it's not really useful for a zoom lens. The regular budget adapters are less than $50 and they are all the same because there is no glass. They just change the distance between the lens and the sensor. I actually bought the viltrox speed booster, but I almost regret it. I say almost because there is some convenience And the best advantage is the extra F stop it gives you. The 50 mm 1.8 becomes a 1.2, which makes it worth the money if you do anything in low light. If it was only for the crop thing, I may not have purchased it. Thanks for the video. BUYER BEWARE: viltrox ef adapter eos m2 does not work with m50 it leaves a undesired circle on pictures.
But it works auto focus in video mode

I'm kinda confused with EF EF-S EF-M
I can make a video! But before then, I can explain it in a nutshell. Basically, EF, EF-S and EF-M are all made by Canon. EF lenses are made for full-frame Canon cameras while EF-S lenses are made for crop sensor Canon cameras or what they call APS-C sensors. EF-S is compatible with both full-frame and crop sensor cameras while EF is only for full frame. EF-M on the other hand are only for the APS-C mirrorless cameras like the M50, M6 etc.
With all that said, there are adapters like the ones in this video that allow the EF and EF-S mount lenses to be mounted onto the M50. I hope that makes sense! I'll hopefully make a video on this in the future!
