Idk bout yours but usually most vaccum sealers seal automatically once they get all the air out. Pressing the seal button manually before it stops and seals itself you're not getting all that air out. The seal button is for making your own bags and sealing the first end. Just a tip🤙
Wanted to thank you for all the salmon trolling and fishing tips. My two boys and I went to Lake Ontario and caught our first Kings, Cohos, steelhead, and even a large brown trout trolling. Between you and Die Hard's videos we had a blast trying to recreate what you have taught on your videos and we had a grand adventure and many memories made with my sons. I want to try your cable baiters on our next trip. We caught them all on spoons. All of the fish had 5"-6" shad in their bellies. I found out it is better to be there between July and September instead of June. Thanks again!
Someone stole my orange Whaley from the streets of San Francisco a few months back. Luckily I had an Airtag inside the motor housing and tracked it down with the police to a meth ranch in the Los Gatos hills. I was able to recover the motor, but it had been separated from the boat (which had no tracker). I posted a bunch of reward posters across San Francisco and finally someone called - the boat was abandoned on the side of the road near Candlestick point. Now she's back in one piece :)
My grandpa was a commercial fisherman on the east coast in the 90s and when throwing a cast net to get a wider spread I was always told to hold part of the bottom of the net in my mouth. Great casts though! This was a really cool video, I'd never tried the ice and salt trick.
Great video 👍🏼. Fantastic trick on the ice & salt 😉, I would definitely get a new kill- switch clip. As just on the off chance you, fall over board. Your boat isn't going to drive off on it's own. Safety first.
Good job on the cast netting. If you want it to open better, experiment with how many weights you hold on the short end of the net. Once you find the right amount adjusted to how you throw, it will open up nicely every time instead of launching out a "taco!"
Great video. We freeze our bait the same way for catfish. Try one tray next time alittle dif. We pat the fish dry after removing from the ice before we tray them. It seems to keep them from getting as mushy when they thaw out.
In Sweden we only use vendace (Coregonus albula) when we troll for salmon and we fish for them when by one to not damage the scales and fins. Just use a size 16 hook and a single maggot, should work for anchovy as well. We put them in ice, salt and bicarbonate first and then freeze them as straight as we can.
The bellies will blow out no matter what you do. The reason is they are full of food and their bellies are are stretched thin. When the commercial companies make the tray bait, they starve them for several weeks so they 'empty' out and their bellies are not stretched so thin. It is impractical to attempt to replicate their processes. You could leave them in a bait receiver if you have a slip, but it literally will take several weeks and many of them will die.
If you want better results, make sure to get a net with the highest possible lb to ft. sinker weight. The difference between 1 and 1.5 lb/ft. is quite noticeable when casting in deeper areas into more spread out schools. Something that cuts the time going for bait allowing more time to fish.
You got it dialed that’s exactly what I used to do when fishing for bed rock salt Ice water/instantly kills and freezes bait don’t knock off any scales pretty much flash freezing them
Sculpin comes from the ancient Greek σκόρπαινα (skórpaina) meaning scorpion. It was absorbed into Latin (scorpena) and eventually into French and English as scorpion in modern times. Spanish conquerors named the fish with the obsolete sailor term for fish that stung or were poisonous, "escorpión" and now in English - Sculpin. On the other side of the Americas, Portuguese sailors called these "stinger" fish, escorpião (basically escorpione) and cemented the term across the continent.
Hey wasn’t sure which platform would be the best to ask this on, but I’m a huge fan of fly fishing and was wondering if you ever plan on making the steelhead on a fly logo on a cap? I’m a huge fan of your videos and im hoping to get one of your apparel items as a “lucky fishing hat” and I felt the fly fishing one would suit perfect. I was curious if you had any plans for it cause if not I will go forward with the fish bones and tree cap so it’s no big deal either way, just wondering if it would be worthwhile to wait.
I've watched quite a few "how to cast a net" videos and one point many of them made, when casting from a boat DO NOT tie the net to your wrist, if the net hangs or you accidentally fall in the net can take you down with it before you can get it untied. Just hold the rope loosely in you hand.
Cool idea. I will try that sometime. I notice you fighting with boat control. Your engine swivel is very loose. You can tighten that up so the engine won’t swing on you like that.
Really cool stuff friend! Nice to see you conquer the casting net, too! That had to boost your confidence! I saw where right at the end of the toss...there's something that has to be done with the left hand to get the perfect toss. Much love! The Gospel of John, sooner than later, Matt's.❤️
Any time I learn something is a good day. I never did it but I had a friend that mixed salt into his water then made ice cubes. He used it in his cooler and it lasted all day and made everything colder. I originally thought he was nuts, we used salt to melt the ice off our porch and I thought it would just melt the ice faster. Wrong!! I never thought of doing it like you did. Thanks!!
Perfecting the cast nest toss takes many hours of practice!! One advice a fisherman gave me was to never tie the end of the cast net to my wrist. Likely hood of you getting something large enough to pull you in is small but it's just a precautionary measure.
My son tossed his net right on top of a sea lion while going for herring. Luckily it just ripped up the mono as it was trying to eat the fish and missed the main rope or it could really have turned into something!
Dude, your water heater does not meet building code, lol. It needs a pan and drain to outside. Please don't ask me how I know. It's a good insurance when the tank start leaking. It will save you from having a load of wet stuff in your garage :). Always thanks for the great videos. I bought a net two years ago and want to try this exact same thing. Sigh.. too lazy in the last two years. Didn't even go out. My dingy is rotting. LOL
Where can I get those trays? I have the vacuum sealer, and bags, but would be down to have those trays. You made it look pro for a home made job! Awesome video! Thanks so much
You can with or with out tray. Use tray as when using is easier to add leader ahead of time and don't slide out of tray as would with just plastic bag.
Great job!!! I love your videos and just to let you know, your never boring me while you wait for a bite on your line👍🏼 I have a question, when you freeze the little fish you caught with the nets, I think you said they were anchovies? Anyhow, why not just seal them in the freezer bags without the styrofoam tray, you can fit more and then all that styrofoam isn’t going into the waste pile? Is there a specific reason why you use styrofoam trays?
I’m going to sound like a big hippie but if you can avoid using styrofoam trays it’d be a good move for the environment and whatnot. I know I probably sound silly but every little bit helps. Keep up the great content, Matt!
You will find that your 8-ft net opens more readily if you soak it in a pail of warm water with a few cap fulls of fabric softener over night. include the throw line along with the net. The fabric softener causes the monofilament mesh to become soft and allows the weights to open the net more fully.
Remember to pierce bag as soon as you remove it from freezer to go fishing…if it defrost first it will suck all the blood and liquid out of fish and make it look bad…
If right handed, hold the entire net on the right hand with the top of the net folded to make the net shorter. with your left hand grab 1/4 diameter bottom of the net (lead) with your left hand. when ready throw the net in a slight circular motion from right to left then release the rest from the left hand when you see the net open while throwing. this will open the net like to its diameter pan cake shape.
Your struggle is refreshing. Most real channel out there!
that looked like success! I gave up trying because of what you explained, they fall apart and smoosh up. Another thing learned from you, thanks bro!
This new nile red video is pretty cool. Thanks matt for these cool experiment vids. A little science with the relaxing fishing.
"Someone tried to steal it a month ago" tell me you live in San Francisco without telling me you live in San Francisco.
A follow up video of how these bait held up would be great :) Thanks always for these awesome videos!
No fails bro! It’s all learning for you and us. Keep at it bc we love it!

That is a fact
I'm always learning something from his videos. 🎣🐟🐟🐟
Dude that’s dope. I gave up on casting nets in the deep blue. Just piers and jetty’s for me.
Very useful info Matt. Totally learned how to quick freeze. Awesome sauce

No problem
5:51 sound effect is the best part of the video lol 😂

Good to hear a happy ending
AirTag for the win!
It seems like forever since we've had a shore fishing video. Those are my favorite

Its like 23 or 24% salt by weight to get the lowest temp. You go over the freezing temp rapidly goes back up

You know it’s a good day when Fisherman’s life uploads! Great way to start off my day😁
Nice job! I brine my bait the night before fishing, stiffing up the anchovies will really help with belly blow out

Glad to see anchovies are in close. Hopefully this means the chromers won’t be too far away either!
A lot of good places in the bay area to catch your own anchovies/sardines with a sabiki, definitely interested in trying this method myself
That was fun to watch. Thanks Matt.
always wait for theses videos
Learned something again. You are a master craftsman! Ty
Very cool! No pun intended. Thanks brother!
Great Video Matt ! perfect video for the Salmon Opening. See you around ! Mustangs !
Pretty neat stuff you do! Most of us do not have the wherewithal to do it so this is like being there to enjoy it!
Very chill videos as always
Love the multiple angles XD
love the videos man!!

Love all these videos, wanna come out there and fish one day. I’ll stick w the east Texas lakes for now.

NOBODY fly fishes... that's like the dentistry of the doctoral field. They get a table in the back of the convention alone lol
@@MosMatically wow sounds a lil personal, you get skunked the last 5 times you took the fly rod out? Hey I get it man, it ain’t for everyone🤷♂️
@@MosMatically lmao you’re delusional dude the only people who talk trash on fly fishing are people who have never tried it 🤣😭
@@MosMatically it’s okay, maybe one day you’ll understand what real fishing is 😂
@@MosMatically you’re missing out if you’ve never tried it. One of the most rewarding ways to fish
just to give you a heads up, you can buy 40# bags of pool salt from the box store home improvement store close to you. it's non-iodized as well.
bro! the bg music that started playing on 5:40 is kinda soothing. nice choice! wish it played kinda longer.😅
Always learning new or relearning technique from you!! 👍
Good stuff loco great tips for the lake 👌

Be sure to do a follow-up vid on how the bait works out while chrome hunting. PS… nothing safe in SF. Even a boat, or motor sadly….
Awesome Matt Best of Fish too you buddy - HAMMERDOWN!!
Bait Run! Always a good time. 👍
What a great episode!
1.9k viewers in 30mins you rock. I'm going to try this in a cooler AC lol. Thanks
Can't wait to see you catch some salmon with those bad boys
Hate thieves but thanks for the tips. I definitely gotta try it. 👍
See the notification immediately, watch the fun video

Mix sand and chum. Throw in a few scoops. The cloudy water will help hide the net from the bait ball and you will net more fish
I love this dude!
Cool trick with the salt in the ice! 😁
As always awesome video Matt!!!
Awesome as always
Very cool vid. Looking forward to see what you catch.

Watching now lol
Love your videos. You should take a trip down south to cabo great fishing down there.
At 6:27 the seal was laughing at you
i have been doing this going on 22yrs for my skipjack for catfishing ,never fails
Bait quality is crucial! Went halibut fishing in Humboldt Bay yesterday and got skunked due to crap bait.
Wondering if this is how (on a much larger scale) the commercial fishing industry does this ... as what is called, "flash frozen!"
Thanks, Matt!
Looks like I’m eating seafood while watching fisherman’s life again

It's the same ice/rock salt method you use when making homemade ice cream. Pretty cool.

Mmmm...... homemade anchovy ice cream! lol
damn,, never knew the process of freezing your live bait like that.. thanks !
Nice tip, Matt, thanks! 👍
Salt melts the ice. That’s how you can make homemade ice cream. Do they make anchovy flavored ice cream?
Ill def try this nextt time!
Yo man what kind of boat you got that thing looks very spacious! I would love to run that thing here in Hawaii to catch bait and run the river!
