I felt that way too for a long time and then I watched it again today and felt the same, except now I know its not emptiness but fullness from all the fond memories I have of this game! Give it time and I'm sure you'll feel the same.
I often imagine the main character getting back to his hometown after being a 1 year transfer student, and people asking him what happened in Inaba and him just acting like none of this ever happened at all and it was just dull. OR I imagine him getting back telling the truth and nobody believing him. "Yeah, when I was in Inaba, I jumped into a tv and fought monsters, met a bear that could transform into a human, banged that teen idol Rise chan, and we defeated this goddess and saved the world." Then everyone would go on to say "Sure you did buddy."
I'm happy they add extra scene for this. i still remember when i play on ps2 i got the true ending but it feel sad seeing they have to say goodbye to yu.
Just finished the game now and got this ending. This ending is a lot better than the original's ending where the credits roll after he gets on the train. That ending made me sad knowing that I may or may not see the gang again, and the song didn't help, it sounded melancholic for me. But this, though, I really felt satisfied, even the Never More version in this ending made me feel happy. Glad I played this version not just the original back in 2009. Thank you, Atlus!
persona 1 and 2 dont take place in the same world as persona 3,4,5. Also persona 3,4,5 are only loosely connected. Meaning basically not connected cause too many contradictions other than small cameos like with rise posters.

120+ hours of 1st playthrough, got this ending is TOTALLY WORTH EVERY SECOND. Well except I accidentally cheated on Marie because the game makes me to comfort Rise on her lvl 9 SL.
When I played without guide. Got into hollow Forrest, saved Marie and got normal ending in the end because when game prompted "return home" I've pressed ok. (and then wrote over save file with cleared data) , my frustration is killing me.
I lost my save in the end of the game, i was in marie story, so sad !!! but i come to see the end, and make my really happy ^ ^, this game is beautiful, one of the reasons of i like video games after all.
Bruhhh P5R I actually find to be better, I wish for the phantom thieves to stay together but literally they fought for a world that wasn't perfect and in so they desired a world where even if they split up they can continue to live their lives, I find it bittersweet, where they all split apart in order to achieve their own dreams in life remembering the bonds they made, I love Persona 4 goldens ending as well
ShanBoi Personally, I think that P4G did the ending better than P5R. Even though the Phantom Thieves splitting up at the end to achieve their dreams is nice and all, I feel as though their dream-following should’ve been exclusively in the credits rather than the pre-credits cutscene. It just doesn’t feel right that the P Thieves don’t really stick around and bring you home for one last hurrah. Instead, they put a bunch of emphasis on Kasumi and Akechi, yet that same emphasis somehow feels not enough. I would rather catch glimpses of Akechi and Kasumi prior to the P Thieves picking you up

Ok, it's not angsty, edgy or "bittersweet", but not everything has to be that way. P5R's ending cutscene is shit because of its bad execution, while P4G and Vanilla P5's are wholesome, but so well executed that they don't feel "cheesy".
I think that's a bit harsh. P5R's ending animation/cutscene could've been better, I agree. Especially with Kasumi's little portion. But the last semester/dungeon was fantastic. Akechi went from literally the character I cared about the least in P5 to one of my favorites with the extra time we get with Darkechi in P5R. Maruki was a non-forced, well-written villian and the Yoshizawa reveal was okay. Ultimately, the extra story beats were expertly weaved into the original experience and made for a better product in all. I see a lot of folks who don't like P5R's ending seemingly because it's not as happily ever after as P4G and I get that after spending 100+ hours with these characters, we want to think of them as living happily ever after together. However, it's also okay for that formula to be switched up. If every Persona game ended as happy-go-lucky as P4G it'd take away from the series imo.

Here are my summarized impressions for their post transformations: Chie went from a 4/10 to a 8/10, damn. Yosuke went from a 6/10 to a 7/10. Yukiko went from a 7/10 to 8/10. Kanji also became a stud holy shit, 6/10 to 8/10. Naoto also became hot, 7/10 to 8/10. Teddy hasn't changed a lot imo, 7/10 to 7/10. Rise (maybe I'm biased), but damn, she went from a 7/10 to a 9/10. And of course, Marie also went from a 7/10 to a 8/10. The pic at the ending was the icing on the cake.

In the original Persona 4, the True ending stops after the group foto was shown in the train. The Golden ending continues after that as an extra ending with an follow up to Persona 4 Dancing.
Pretty sure the only one of those 5 who would actually qualify as a child is Nanako, since I'm pretty sure the other four moreso count as teens/young adults than children, but that's just my opinion.
