Another issue is that housing is so expensive, the 'tax free' money is not really a benefit anymore. So unless you are getting a good pay rate, you are going to end up losing money with traveling. I was going to travel, but realized that most of the companies want you to find your own housing, which is where most travelers made their tax free money. With that not being a benefit anymore, everyone needs to make sure the taxable rate is in line with what the locals are making. I have seen so many say that they accepted very low taxable rate, so that they could get the 'high' tax free money. But if you go on gsa.gov you will see that the per diem for each area is what the maximum is for housing, meals and incidentals. The hospitals in that area have already budgeted for that! When you take that 20 dollars an hour that is taxable, and the local rate is 40 dollars an hour, the recruiter and their company pocket that other 20, on top of what they are already charging the hospital. Of course, this is if you are working for a staffing agency.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Needless to say, the salary increase that nurses received is truly an insult. Moreover, the way groceries have gone up is absurd. Having said that, I just payed at the pump $5.60 regular gasoline, thank God I have a small Miata. Furthermore, I'm seriously thinking of selling my home, now that it has gone up to $750,000 in my neighborhood & I purchase it for $175,000 in 2008 I could use that profit to buy a smaller one later on, when housing comes down. Stay Safe & Healthy... Abrazos
@@CrosbyTheNomadNurse Trust me, I had multiple buyers this weekend plus 2 low offers, however, I'm holding on for 2 couples that were interested, let's see what comes of it. Stay Safe & Healthy... Abrazos
An undecided healthcare student. The way the economy is right now, it makes all jobs seem not worth pursuing. Not many things are paying right for the investment, time, and energy spent. I get it, healthcare is not a place to SOLELY think about money but it's STILL a factor. Unfortunately I'm not interested in other fields like IT, CS, finance. Too boring and souless I hate desk jobs. Feeling stuck. Thankfully it is summer and not taking classes so I can breathe a little bit.

Thank you for the update
Inflation is 18 % over all
One bedroom apartments in SoCal are 2.6K/month and up, gas is $6.79/gallon, nurse pay in the area is garbage for new grads.
I’m in Florida I haven’t seen any increase in staff nurse pay🥲
I’m not a traveler for now so not sure about that. Gas is $4.87 a gallon today🥲
Be a travel RN
