When we pressed the start button on our Maytag Maxima, the lights came on & the door locked, but the washer would not start. When I heard this video, I unplugged the washer for 30+ seconds. Then, when I plugged it in, it started! Thank you for the tip.
Hello This video is specific to the whirlpool washing machines we have at the Onyx apartment complex. This is not a universal trick for all washing machines. I am not sure how this video got 10000 hits. If youre not an Onyx resident you should look for another video.
I don't think this is specific to whirlpool washers. I had a whirlpool and this issue was caused by corroded traces on the circuit board, thus not sending the unlock command.
I have a top load, washer, and energy star, what kind of damage am I looking at if the basement flooded and got a foot tall of water that affected the bottom part of the washer? What would need to be replaced? I opened and closed the lids six times I unplugged the machine for a minute, I press the buttons for the wash cycle it makes a noise, but then it does not show the film button light, and does not jet water out and then makes the finish button noise three minutes later. I’d like to replace a part
My problem with this Whirlpool direct drive washer - I push on the power button, set the dial to type of wash and push the Start button and the Minutes display starts flashing and beeping. I have to unplug for 30 sec and plug back in to reset it. This happens ever 3 or 4 washes.

If the door is locked it’s probably a clogged drain at the bottom
That has nothing to do with door switch

Tip: if this doesn’t let you open the door, start a drain/spin&drain program. Once that’s finished the door should open.

What if it doesn’t work and the whirlpool just flashes a red door locked light when you plug it back in?
Pretty sure your drain is clogged up
Mine flashed red for about 5 seconds after replug … then light went out.
