    Nothing beats metal, if it was my car I definitely would have underside repaired properly

    A quick tyre fitting company flattened both cills on a GT I once owned. The body shop that did the repairs at the tyre company expense pulled the cills out by welding pins at key points, I would not have accepted filler as seen on this car. Brilliant video again.

      yes but when the rest of the car has so many rust issues ready to break out in 2 years. Its a turn off for me. Total rust prevention or nothing for me.

    Very common to see these bodge jobs on GT sills unfortunately, if they're even repaired at all. Thankfully they're not as difficult to repair as your 156 video, and there's also sill sections available at a reasonable price.

      Rust is such an issue that it must be stated in capitals. Although I do agree, not just Alfa but any car of that age that's still on UK roads is going to have rust issues if not treated!

    I've had a look at a 156 2.0 JTS, any critical problems to look at other than rust and what oil it has been serviced with?

    Minor issues from a 5-th Alfa GT 1.9 diesel owner's perspective. Allthough i am only an owner, i've allready seen and driven around 15 of them in 3 yrs, so i did see alot of other greater problems with them, like gearbox failiure, turbo's, injectors, intercooler, air flow meter etc
    . The one here looks fine to me comparing to most of them at this age , because of poor mantainance. I just sold my 2007 1.9 GT tunned stage 1 DPF off, EGR off, double straight pipe exhaust, and bought a newer one 2010 with 120000 km. Everything looks almost new and feels the same, except clutch that needs replacing and 4th injector needs reconditioning.
    If any interested in checking out the tunned interior/exterior of my last one, you can find it on my channel.

    Just PX'd for an Alfa GT 1.8TS cloverleaf in atlantico blue 3 weeks ago, previous garage had crushed both sills SPECTACULARLY, it'll be about £1100 to get both done (plus some minor front bumper damage) ouch, athough this will involve brand new sills and the repainting of nearly a side of the car, should last a long time if taken care of well.
    These cars are alright if you take them to a garage with more than 3 brain cells combined.. sadly most folk don't give a shit.

    Another great video. It seems that tyre fitters or lazy mechanics like to ruin Alfa’s, I had a GT last year with the same issue, crushed sills. I recently got a 156 with a similar issue. My pride and joy is my 159, which hasn’t succumbed to this problem, thankfully, and, should anyone try to Jack it up where they are not supposed to, I honestly think I might just have to resort to violence !!.

    Neil, thanks for these videos. Very informative and entertaining for me and Alfa fan. I am located in Australia and can't believe the rust issues with British cars. Can people reading this commment on rust prevention? Why not have your car rust treated every year so these problems dont arise? If you look under a Rolls Royce, does it look the same? Massive rust issues. How can the water salt problem be dealt with? This is interesting to me because if you Brit friends looked under out cars you may be very suprised how well Alfa's hand rust here. Cheers.

    • @Negativvv
      @Negativvv 2 роки тому

      It's lack of awareness on underside rust. Also Alfa and other modern cars tend to still look pretty decent in terms of paintwork and panels even when the underside is completely rotten so it often catches people unaware. With hindsight I'd have started treating my own 156 years ago rather than deal with the rust now...

    • @downesy68
      @downesy68 2 роки тому

      As an Aussie, I feel the same way. After watching a lot of UK videos I was very keen to get my GT up in the air and have a look underneath. Not a speck of rust anywhere. It must be a nightmare keeping an older car on the road in the UK.

    • @marchutchings8834
      @marchutchings8834 2 роки тому +1

      @@downesy68 Yep Downesy68 I agree. My 156 didn't have a speck of rust. Rust prevention seems a good industry to get into in the UK?

      They salt the roads in the UK and Republic of Ireland during winter. I lived there for 15 years. That's why all cars rust there. I had a 750e 147 when I live there. Did not have a rust problem that I saw but I never looked underneath. It was only 750 bucks hehe. They are cheap there. The underside of my Toyota Soarers were pretty nasty underneath though.
      In Australia it's not a problem. Chances of fining a rusty Alfa are pretty much zero here.

    I would be worried what other unseen bodge jobs have been done on the car to be honest. Sill filler, poor quality work on oil cooler, this just feels like a car that has had work done on the cheap/diy.
    As for badges, well the car is of an age where originality is long forgotten and the model isn’t a limited edition/high desirability level, so that’s no issue to me personally.
    Great video Neil and would suggest if you could do a follow up one for some of these reviews to say what happened next?

    Q2 or Cloverleaf? I thought you would show whether or not it had the red 'sport' button on the centre console. Its a standard omission on the likes of Autotrader pics, when the seller doesn't want to show the lack of a sport button. Other than that, not a bad car, really. As the previous owneer of several Alfas, including a GT, I would definitely not be happy with those sill repairs. Thats the kind of job you have done to flog a car quickly, at minimum loss. Having watched your 156 sill repair videos, I completely understand why you wouldn't want to take these on!

    • @ItaliaAutos

    Those sills would make me nervous. There's no way of knowing what evil is hidden. I'd also want to know the sill-murdering sausages of doom are gone and replaced by a shitload of Dynax S50 or similar. Along with the oil cooler and swirl flaps, there isn't much else that can kill the car.
    The badging is irritating. Does it actually have a Q2 diff and/or Sport mode button? Or is an open diff 150 with £10 worth of upgrades by eBay?
