- Since I'm from Scotland I decided it'd be a good idea to set a few Scottish stereotypes straight! All in the art of fun of course, enjoy! :P
P.s My mum features in this video as 'Jock' if you've watched the video and are now reading this you'll understand, however if you haven't yet then all will become clear soon.
Be sure to follow me on Twitter in order to ask questions for the future 'Ask Murray' video I'll be doing :)

I'm only here because I love listening to Scots speak. I'm not even listening to what you're saying.
I'm from glasgow and 90% of the people in my schools vocabulary is swearing
Aye, that's as true as can be
+Adib I live near Glasgow.
My bro is famous there.
aye me tae its fucking ridiculous it's shit I'm fae Glasgow and I never swear and anyone who says so is a fucking dickheed
HoneyIsWeird Irony
I think that's everyone all over Glasgow 😂
Living in Glasgow I can say roughly 8 of these stereotypes are true
"Nobody has that sort of accent" hahahahaha...Judging that you're an Edinburger and make UA-cam videos, you are probably from an upper middle class background - the dialect is not very strong. But if you cross the forth to Fife or cross Tay to Dundee all the way up to Peterhead you are in for a shock!! The accent and words used here are so strong that locals like myself would often mistaken you for English. As a dundonian, I've been told on my occasions that I sound like I'm having a stroke and my tongue is big for my mouth! - teachers at school would constantly shout at us "pronounce your t's, don't roll yer r's, don't say Ken or Kent for know and knew , don't say eh and nah for yes and no"
It's an absolute nightmare to be understood by foreign folk at university, beforehand I never realised we spoke very fast and used words that were not seen as standard English.
Great video
In Canada we spend part of the year in igloos. It's fantastic! You should definitely have a visit
+Paige Kirk that sounds awesome! Canada is high up there on the bucket list!
have to say the drinking thing is pretty accurate. we're all alkie bastards
Bwahaha
We're aw alkies 😂
griffinfamily is the drinking thing not iresh
If ye dinnae hae a drink problem .. you're nae really Scottish. Are ye?
The Dude really I don’t think that’s true by any means same as it isn’t true of the people of my ancestral homeland the Irish you’d find some that enjoy a drink but also those that are teetotalers so that’s not always true
Oi... Highlanders don't walk around in kilts all day 😂😂 but when we do wear kilts, we fucking own it 😂😏😏🔵⚪️🔵⚪️
Och aye
Aye I'm a highlander and ma haggis needs regular walks, bloody nuisance...
Cat Yeah I'm a highlander to I'm from Inverness
Cat I'm from Aberdeenshire
Cat it's much harder to keep a haggis living fine in the heart of Glasgow
Haggises from the Borders constantly wee and cause all types of mischief
I'm from Glasgow and I can honestly say that I have to keep my haggis as a house haggis for fear that it may get stabbed if I allowed it to go outside unchecked
Now I need to find me a lovely Scottish man to take care of
kittyleigh007 Feast yer eyessss!
" a didnae want tae watch this mince " 😂
Enjoyed this. A good laugh/smile for my morning, so thank-you. You're a funny guy, and glad you made the vid also.
Oh my god. I'm in love already. New favorite UA-camr!
"Problems with owning a haggis" haha i love that!
the Scottish accent is 3rd in the sexiest accents so at least we can serenade people with the accent and in my opinion we have one of the most known history's mainly because of William Wallace
I can seriously hear you talk all day! I love it!!!!!
I'm so happy I found your channel, your hilarious and I'm defiantly going to keep watching your videos! Love them!! xx
Willy the janitor 😂
Oh I hate walking ma haggis ... its a pain 😊😂
I had to watch this again because it's so awesome :)
I love your videos. very enjoyable. Thank you. you are a delightful person.
I loved this video! I'm an American and have a Scottish best friend who recently visited me here in the states and I had to constantly "translate" for him. Even when he was using his polite, slowed-down voice. Lol. Naturally, when people find out that I know a Scotsman they burden me with questions that relate to the stereotypes you mentioned and it annoys me to no end! I'm doing my best to keep these 'Muricans informed!
Yes Laci! I appreciate the good work you're doing haha I can imagine I'd probably face similar problems when I eventually venture across the pond!
Ah you will. I live in the south so he got a lot of "Yer not frum round here are ya?" Lol.
Americas a shite hole
Well, that's not very nice, is it? Every place has good and bad things, but I love where I'm from and am incredibly happy here. I hope you are happy where you are.
Laci Collingwood laci Collingwood I liked this comment but thought maybe you are being a bit naive? I don't mean to offend but what you said was possibly quite shroud and awful to be honest, please reply because we NEED to get to the bottom of this.
Jared Cochrane
OH MI I fell in love. I fucking love Scottish people
I love us to
Haha, I love us too :D +the cardinal
Thanks you ;) your a belter of a person
Loved the video! It made me laugh because the second you said Scottish stereotypes, I immediately thought of Groundskeeper Willie from the The Simpsons. I've never been to Scotland, but I would love to go someday.
Thanks mate :) I think I've watched part one :) I'll be sure to check out part 2! :)
The alcoholic bit is more of an Irish stereotype. Funny video.
And ginger hair too though... :-)
Elena Le bec That too lol.
+ForeverRepublic I think Scots and Irish stereotypes are often mixed together in America.
flora. at least people in the republic of ireland have their own irish passports
touché, I am jealous
We do swear quit a bit though
We awe dae
We do
Your videos are so entertaining 😄
So good to hear another Scottish accent on UA-cam !

I grinned at the haggis part. Though, I am totally(not) guilty of swearing a lot....it just slips out ;~; xD
Of course you all love haggis... it's freaking delicious !
I have never had haggis it's accually quite hard to find
I'm Scottish... I'm vegetarian... So... Uh awkward... :P
Sophie Valitine Have you tried a shop?
I dont and i am scottish
I came across your comment on Zoella's channel - So glad I clicked onto your channel. I'm also Scottish but live in Australia and everything you said I get asked about! Especially if people wear Kilts all the time, Love your videos already! Can't wait for your next! xx
You're a pure legend man 👍🏻

I think it's sad that there are stereo type's at all. I'm American. No I'm not ignorant. And now I'm not addicted to fast food. I'm actually the opposite. This was interesting to watch. Thank. You
hahah good vid man! subbed :D best vid so far :)
lol I've subscribed...just found your channel and I love your vids :) good job
I'm probably the only one of you commenters that is actually Scottish and HE IS NOT SPEAKING GAELIC! Gaelic is not a dead language either, it's mainly spoken up the highlands of Scotland. Also he's not THAT broad he's probably from Edinburgh or around that area. Honestly. Gaelic (pronounced gay-lick) is Irish. Gaelic (pronounced ga-lick) is Scottish. They are two DIFFERENT LANGUAGES AND ARE STILL SPOKEN TODAY. So get your facts rights people!!! Also (Trying to answer all your questions here) look up British accent. You will find the English accent, and don't be fooled. There are 4 countries in Britain/ UK each with different accents. Scotland isn't a very well known country so there isn't very much history on it, but look up some of these to find out more- Rabbie Burns (Robert Burns), Edinburgh Castle and Wallace The Bruce. Haggis is a sheeps stomach (I dislike it but just my opinion haha) Tatties are potatos and neeps are turnips. Aye that's all ;) Any more questions feel free to ask me.
thanks for the input Vanilla Fudge! (thanks to you I am now seriously craving some fudge haha)
Haha! Yes fudge is nice!
Vanilla Fudge I am Scottish too.
Tapadh leibh!
:♥
I'm going to Glasgow Uni next year and I'm worrying about the accent thing...
as you've said, I barely understand what the Scots are saying
and someone told me that Glasgow has the strongest accent among all Scottish cities?? Is that true?
Are the people there friendly to foreigners though?
I found it was somewhat harder than other accents but you'll get it :-). Scotland is an amazing place! You will love it! Try to venture out to the Highlands if you get the chance!
frozenchipmunk4 it's great that you're living there too! may I ask do you think that the life living in Glasgow is boring? well let's say comparing with the life in London or big cities like LA
Helena Cheng There is actually lots to do in Glasgow, just like any other big city and its the biggest shopping city in the U.K outside London
Helena Cheng Don't worry about the accent. English is not my first language, and even though I had a bit of a problem understand locals (mostly old people) at first, now I'm a lot better! There are still some (usually old or chav-type) people that sound like aliens to me, but mostly it's OK. Also, Glasgow has a lively night-live and a strong pub culture, so if that's your thing, you won't be bored :) Obviously, it's not as eventful as London, but there are plenty to do in the city center and the west end, where students mainly reside :)
Helena Cheng Most people are friendly
"A didnae want tae watch this mince!!" oh god i couldn't breathe at that part hahaha!! Is it bad that i live up to that stereotype when something doesn't work right for me...
Great video! I cam across your channel by accident and i'm glad i did! I can tell your channel is going to be huge :) keep it up! Nice to see a funny Scottish youtuber! Subscribed as soon as i watched this :) Hi from Glasgow :)
haha thoroughly enjoyed this! I'm writing a book and one character who is Scottish, does happen to be named Jock - didn't know it was a stereotype.
It's just quite a classic name in books and tv shows I guess, there aren't many actually called that in Scotland but according to wikipedia it's a scottish diminutive form of the name john :)
And that we deep fry everything, which, let's be honest, we sort of do. That said I love myself some tattle fritters. It's like a delicious heart attack.
Deep fried mars bars? Haha
im Scottish and I've never had a deep fried mars bar, i don't know any place that sells them and i don't know anybody who has tried it😂😂😂
Katie Brodie Not for me either, but it is still favoured amongst some scots (drunk ones, I suspect)
+Katie Brodie it's an east Scotland thing, you can get them in pretty much any chippie from west Calder eastwards, and they're bangin.
omg i have finally found someone else scottish on youtub! i thought i was like the only one :)
We are definitely a minority on the UA-cams haha
Murray Orr :)
I know! We're so rare!
im a immigrant of Scotland ;)
Me lol
I actually laughed so hard at the whiskey part, you're gorgeous :)
same with me mate! when im not talking to people they always assume i'm miffed or something but i'm not. and the drinks. THANK YOU.
I'm Scottish but no accent at all
You poor thing. :(
I'm ok with it I'm also half French
Yes Murray ! Let me tell you what brazilian people know about your country... Well, at least in my town. We do have some stereotypes about Scotland. For example dude: When I speak about Scotland to my friends, the things that come in their minds are: Lake Ness Monster, Bagpipe and Kilt. They don't know that whiskyu was inveted in Scotland, they don't know wich is the capital city, and I have shame to say that a lot of people here don't know where Scotland is situed. They even don't that Scotland is above England and make part of UK.
But I started to search more about Scotland and I have find out some things that I didn't know before, one day I want to make visit and see everything around.
Greetings,
it's actually loch ness, you don't get lakes in scotland, but lots of lochs!
Could you explain to me what is the difference ? I did not get it... Loch x Lake.
All these words seems to be a little equal...
It just change some letters.
Bruno Raskeski It's awesome to hear about foreign people learning about our country. You'll hopefully love it if you can visit! Maybe you'll visit the city I live in, Dundee! Either way, have fun.
Richard Stalker Of course Richard. I am dreaming with Scotland in these current days hahaha. The more I see more I love, all full of stories, castles, traditions. It is awesome !
Dundee ? The sunny town, one city, many discoveries, have the Dundee United and Dundee FC wich have the closest stadiums in UK, but their aren't rivals, sorry, I searched about Dundee too, I just love your country.
When I get there, I want to know the most cities I can. Not only Edimburgh.
I am Canadian and we love beer, bacon, hockey, and we'll hold the door open for you. We call that a Canadian stand off ('You first')
Loved this:)
turn subtitles on at 1:59 XDDDDD
+Furious Mittens hahaha something went wrong in translation there!
WAIT WAIT WAIT
Do you eat cereal with ORANGE JUICE????
Naaaaawwwww
cas is all ass naw we drink it with milk like everyone else
Yeah but that was an orange juice carton wtf
Probably for jokes
didn't have an empty milk carton handy 😂
In my country there is only one stereotype about Scottish people, that they don't like to spend money.
"Scottish man walks into a train with a very large sack on his back. Conductor sees the sack and tells the man he needs to pay for his luggage, so the man opens the sack and says: Come out son, we'll have to pay anyway".
I think I fall into a few of the stereotypes you mentioned, the angry, broad accent and the swearing a lot stereotypes haha
Mate haha im scottish and im ginge haha
Embrace it mate haha mon the ginge!
Murray Orr Hey, sorry, but what is a "ginge" ? It is some kind of scottish lang ? I want to know more about Scotland.
Bruno Barradas Ginger hair
hes a posh Scottish boy so of course he disagrees with the sterotype, half of them are 100% true
Ross Duffin thanks for the input Ross. I'd love to hear which of the points mentioned are '100% true' and how you wish to validate such a claim?
Murray Orr First point is no part of Scotland is the same and like England there will be different social traits associated to each area,
I am actually 100% Scottish and spend a month every year on the outskirts of Glasgow and I can 100% confirm that there are different social tendencies, I find the Scottish very passionate people which is great but this 100% translates to being seen as angry on occasion.
Also the weather is noticeably a lot worse in Scotland than England.
Scotland and England drink a ton but out of experience going out in Scotland I would say Scots probs like there drink a bit more, not as much as Dubliners but for sure more than in my area in England.
The Scots also swear a Fucking Ton man common
x
A stereotype is by definition 'a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing'. The points mentioned are broad generalisations about Scottish people and don't necessarily apply to each and every individual living in Scotland. That's what a stereotype is and that's what the video is about, hope this helps!
Murray Orr I understand but that ideology is kind of like saying Nazi's hated jews when in fact there could be a few Nazis who like Jews but are partaking due to both political and social pressure, so to conclude my point athough there will be a good percentage of scots who are not angry, the percentage that are in comparison to other nations becomes the causality that the sterotype exists and thus why it can be argued accurate to make such a statement that Scottish are angry
Ross I would say if u live in Scotland and think that u r one dumb fuck.
Cool man, look forward to it :)
So funny! It really made me laugh :)
Nice to see another Scottish youtuber! I'm from Edinburgh and think that the Scottish stereotypes are ridiculous. Watch any movie and if there's a Scottish one they're either drunk, ginger or Glaswegian to the point where anyone who isn't Scottish has no clue what they're saying!
Subscribed!! love your accent :)
Love this video! :D
I hate haggis haha.
I don't think everyone walks around drunk but there is a problem with alcoholism in Scotland, especially in Glasgow.
Good job. Thanks, I enjoyed watching the video.
lol, I've lived in France for 30 years. You've summed up in a few minutes what I've been hearing all that time. Help ma boab, well done laddie :)
Thanks for posting this! My Canadian friends have stereotyped every single one of these things about me.
i laughed so hard when he smacked the box away to reveal the alcohol
That part with the cereal cracked me up!!!
I love how he said "walking my pet haggis" like it's an animal I LOVE THAT STORY
Well done, you have successfully wrongly portrayed scotland
loving the fact the Billy Connolly is "some sort of crazy people'' !! You are still amazing :)
YES I'VE FINALLY FOUND A SCOTTISH UA-camR I'M GOING TO START WATCHIN U ALLLL THE TIME ♥
Can I like this video 100000 times, SOMEONE SAID IT.
the only thing I would add is the stereotype that we all speak Gaelic and some of us can't speak any English.
This lad is quality! Hahaha 😂
Ha! This is great, new subscriber!
I am fangirling over your accent.... it is to DIE for... *dies* XD
always drunk... bagpipes..awesome.funny! Hey Jimmy! I love the sound of the bagpipes, actually.
You just earned a new subscribee
Thanks man, it's fine haha I'm glad your so excited about it! I'm filming it tomorrow, and then I'll hopefully get it all edited by Thursday night, then hopefully uploaded by Friday morning, that's the plan anyway :)
This channel is going to be HUGE! You are so talented! Also, I'm a Swede and everyone thinks we live with polar bears and stuff...

Thank you so much Rachel! :D I hope I can keep amusing you with my videos :)
Awesome! thank you for coming :D
As for the bagpipes comment .. you've never lived until you've heard a Scot and a Canadian have a duelling bagpipe sesh in the middle of a Canadian forest ... f magic. Wonderful sounds.
Aww thank you very much, that's awesome! :) when people share it it's a huge help so thank you :)
It's nice to see a fellow scot on youtube:)
Gained like 200 subs since the last time I was on !!! I'm of to share your videos with twitter !!!
She was happy to be in it, she wanted more lines :P and that's a good idea, I've been thinking about maybe doing one of those :)
It is said that we Spaniards are all day partying, that we all love bullfighting and that we are all flamenco dancers or eat paella everyday, and that is SO NOT TRUE at all. Love your video, I'll be in Scotland in a couple of weeks, so I'm learning as much as I can about the country and its people :)
When you said 'A dinnae wanna watch this mince` & 'Stick that in your pipe and smoke it` I laughed so much! I used to live in Scotland! I've not heard those sayings in years! Good video x
A haggis is not just for christmas, it's for life.
Haha, these stereotypes are on point! the struggles of being Scottish :P
