- It looks like Dewalt is starting to go down the same road as milwaukee. Selling tools and not supplying the switch separately.
Even when the same switch is available for other tools.

I don't know how many of your short videos I've watched ( hundreds probably) and I'm still in total awe of your skill in stripping down the parts, throwing them on the workbench then re-assembling a power tool. It's a kind of magic.
I love it when you speed up the removal of screws. Not only does it skip the less interesting part, but it's fun to watch sped up

I like your honesty,Dean. If a tool brand is dodgy,you say so. I’m a builder and carpenter by trade. I’ve been interested in various brands of battery powered tools. So far lm completely put off Dewalt, and Milwaukie . I’ve stuck with Bosch, Makita and Hitachi. Many of them 20 years + old. No issues at all. It’s great to see what’s actually inside the modern stuff. And good to see what brands to avoid. Love your channel.

As a young guy this is what started me on attempting to get machines going. Especially when the option is to replace the machine, what have you got to loose. I’m trying to teach my sons what an important notion this is.
This 100% been tinkering for 30 years at this part I work on my own electronics cars and musical instruments.. Now maybe my power tools which are all makita lxt line do have one xgt 40 volt impact wrench.
I am a joiner and plumber by trade I’ve had dewalt tools my entire career 23 years and they have never let me down once virtually every power tool I have and I have a lot is dewalt. So on that front I can’t say a bad word about them and would always recommend them.
If DeWalt tools are bad, so are the rest. The truth is, all brands have strengths and weaknesses. Price is also a factor, and DeWalt is a good compromise between price and quality.
@@Bob_Adkinsi have only bad experiences with DeWalt and Milwaukee. Makita, Bosch,Hikoki are way more better and last longer. American Companys are made to make a profit. Not like a Makita. Makita is made to work and easy repair when broke down.
@@dr.bik.sauerlanderene_HR No bad experiences with either, but if my 16 DeWalt tools and 13 batteries were all lost in a fire, I would start over with Makita. I'm not brand loyal, but I am battery loyal.

I don't know how much it crosses over, but it's all mechanical transfer of energy, so it might work. A trick for gunsmithing with tight pins is to only ever use relative light taps from the hammer to massage out pins. Helps prevent your punches from bending. And if the light taps aren't working, you don't hit harder, you get a heavier hammer and lightly tap with that. More inertia with small amounts of energy transfer helps prevent the punches from bending. Might be useful to try in future if you get anymore really tight pins.

Just for future reference with the DeWalt hedge trimmer , it looks like the safety switch is not clicking, thats is the prob i had on my trimmer, i added some tape to the plastic tennon joints on the safety handle to pad them out and take up the slack so now the safety switch engages. Or if you open it up bend out the metal pins slightly on the switch, love the the vids

Nice work on the red hot poker for the bearing fit, will stow that for later. Another one I use a bit (mostly on Miele vacuum motors ) is a wrap of cellotape on the outside of the bearing before fitting it.

I always thought that once electronic hand tools were broke it was game over but after watching yr vids some are definitely worth saving 👌
It still amazes me that we live in a world where someone will throw away a $150-$300 tool, because they can't take the 15 minutes to take it apart and replace a $0.15 part...
15 mins for someone that actually knows what's broken and can actually fix it.
The question is, why doesn't it amaze you that manufacturers are making trash products?

The 708 IMO is the King of Miter Saws. Too bad they put the drive belts on too tight and wrecked the bearings which lead to stress on the motors and eventually failure if not fixed in time.
I think its nice you put the dead tools back together. My dad sent out his circular saws for repair and they came back in a million pieces.

13:27 similar problem with the Bosch green one. If the knives is misaligned, they will saw through the housing and detach the entire holder for the bearing. Bad design.

I have just taken a Bauker angle grinder to pieces as the switch was not operating correctly. After watching your videos it was a very quick strip, clean and reassemble. It is now working as it should. Thanks for your videos. Keep up the good work.
On the plainer you could had put cut ziptie around inside of the housing and melt it to make it fit better. Also, those plastic soldering irons might be a good idea to purchase.

The spiking of the plastic with a hot pick is a simple, cheap and brilliant fix to keep the bearing outer race tight in the housing. Generally I find the belt driven bearings on belt sanders and planers are the ones to go, leading to a noticeable judder. I have been surprised that even some expensive tools skimp on the quality of the bearings.
I've fixed several low hours Dewalt corded grinders with collapsed bearings, poor quality control in the PRC, quick short term profit over customer care. In the end it will damage the brand identity, cheers
I found the switch module for the dcf899 on amazon for $62.00 (not original brand) Could not find it anywhere for the dcf900 tho. That’s pretty cheap considering the cost for a new one thats around $319.99 us dollar. But I guess dewalt has stopped selling the switch module separate which makes sense they wanna make more money and have you buy a brand new one. It’s pretty messed up tho for us the consumers. Companies like Dewalt and Milwaukee need to stay humble but I guess greediness always winds.

So many battery charged tools just fail these days of misuse and / or abuse. Some are a blessing if you no know how to treat them well... a cordless drill, angle grinders and small edge milling cutters are absolute favorites. But just look at battery charged circular saws... you just know it can't go right. As soon as you overload the motor the inner wirings will overheat and melt someting or with brushed tools the brushes will overheat and will melt the brushholders. For some heavy used tools corded is a better option in my humble opinion.
Delta, Dewalt, Black & Decker Milwaukee, Porter cable, Owned by Stanley Tools. Dewalt in my eyes has always been a cheap brand especially the corded grinders. I went with Matabo when I ran a shop years ago, They still have two of the 12 originals working 22 years now.
The housing fix for the dewalt planer is actually quite handy. I did something similar to a headset. The plastic holding the earcup broke making it prone to wiggling and eventually falling out, so I took a washer that would fit the other end and file it down until there was a good fit. Heat the washer up and gently pres it into place. Adding some superglue to keep it secured at the bottom and top and it feels now more solid than the other side.

Hi Dean, I had to fix that same hedge trimmer my problem was the micro switch mechanism inside the actual handle it's an easy fix
I planed the pad off tip of my left middle finger with a dewalt planer. Well, we laughed!

Dean I have the same hedge trimmer, same issue. On mine I found the problem was where the handle slots on to the body. There was a tiny bit too much play in those slots and the safety switch wasn't being mechanically engaged.
Being on a job, in desperation I made it fit snug with tape and it's been fine ever since.
Pretty lousy for a tool that was only a few weeks old.

Super glue is magic, 1000s of uses. I use it to rebuild up broke plastic parts with string, rags or baking soda.

I had a thought what if you bought the whole system like the trigger controller motor for brands that you fix a lot and just pull a switch off to fix one that needs a switch full of controller off to fix another that needs a controller and that way you have parts and you're not syncing all the money into one so you can still have customers because now you have a hedge trimmer and some other pieces that are just unfixable unless you use parts out of them to fix something else
Brands are as good as it's spare parts list quantity...

I thought those brushless motors would be much longer lasting than brushed, as there are no touching parts like brushes, and yet they seem to have lots of problems.
I don't think that very many of these machines will be repaired in Denmark unless it is under warranty, or you do it yourself. That's why these videos you make are highly prize worthy.
Labor salary + tax will start at least 100 euros + spare part. And you have to wait for repairs and it also costs money to have to wait.
The EU would like it to be worthwhile to repair, but it is too expensive in Denmark and nothing happens from EU. Washing machines as well, as the price of repairs quickly exceeds the price of a new machine.

Circular saws look like a real pain to work on.
A lot of effort to strip them down and put back together.
From what I have seen you do, it appears that mini angle grinders is something I might take on to repair so far, if a broken locking pin replacement.

0:46 I have that dcs367 and i love it! The thing is a beast and the 4way blade holder is absolutely the best for getting into tight spots cutting all different ways. This is better IMO because it can be used 1 handed helping you cut pvc pipe & other things while holding the item your cutting wè other hand. Also have the small Atomic 1 hand(hackzall type) and that is nice too. Although it cuts alot slower(shorter stroke), it gets in alot of tight places. I dont even hsve a so called full size cordless recip saw anymore - still have my PorterCable from back in the day(when PC made good tools still, before Li-Ion bacame the standard). Its sad what happened to PorterCable tools nowadays tho!🤔🛠️🔨🔩🔧🔌🔋⚡💥💨👍🏻👌🏻🍻
Nice video like always, I'm in the US and most of my tools are dewalt and part milwaukee, and here we have a dewalt repair center local, and what they do they have a warranted price f your the repair regardless of that it needs and is normally any 60% of the retail price some small tools are not worth it but some of the more expensive it is, for example a dewalt compressor that cost 430us they charge 280 and sometimes they will give you a new item but most of the tools that are brushless they replace all the electronics and any damage parts and give you the same tool, and on the other hand milwaukee every single time that I had a warranty they just give you a new tool
Yeah, I used to have a DeWalt (former Black & Decker)store right here in Buffalo. I also used to like the 'all-in-one repair cost they'd do - 1 flat rate no matter what was broken(iirc i paid $39 to fix my air nailguns, back in the day) Unfortunately they closed it up a few years ago. It's sad cause I used to go there frequently to have my tools fixed (DeWalt, Bostich, & PorterCable). And check out any store deals they had or damaged
ot picked up tools they'd sell cheaper. Although there are a couple other 'Factory authorized' tool repair places around still, the DeWalt store was closer and better customer service(my bro-in-law's aunt worked there too). I think Amazon & the big box stores put a big dent in their sales, and that was a big reason they closed up. Ppl will order online(or HD\Lowes) to get their tools a lil cheaper. Kinda sad tho. @@tdotw77 I think the dewalt service center prices on tools are always higher than the box stores like HD because in theory they can sell lower than the other stores but that would make un fear for the rest, and yeah occasionally they do sell tools that have been serviced and not pick up, here the one I have local I walk in to buy parts as well and they have a lot of stock parts and when they don't they order them for me and are cheaper than used parts on ebay
@@tdotw77 i work as repair man in local shop who sell bosh, makita and other brands and tools- online selling is nightmare for us- why you ask. customer comes to us- we consult them and try sell our product.( as small and long company we knew who is good and bad stuff- so we recomend whats is good( who goes to repair, its expensive to repair and other stuff.) and when customer knows price to liked item, some says they thought some time and maybe come back/some just plainly goes to phone and looks that item in other shops9 mostly big brand- and goes to buy from them bz they can order from other country side by 5 euros in like 300-400euros item.

Hi Dean, this may seem like a stupid question but how come you use a screw driver on some screws but a drill on others on the same tool repair?
It's more the condition of the screw head. A good screw driver is less likely to stripbthe head of. Amd also during reassembly, a drill can strip the housing for small screws very easily

bit of shim tape round the bearing would get you a nice tight fit on the planer
All you need is a steel pin....and knowing where to hit. A perfect example.

My degree in engineering helps. But mainly, it's from watching my father repairing sawing machines and trying to copy him by taking everything apart.

got little project use my dewalt 20-volt battery. fixing my pops a motor on kayak. got 6ah 20 volt put it om old 2hp suzuki outboard make electric. you wouldn't want sell old housing off drill,saw,light be good to. two be ok 4 would be great. plan on running two motors double the torque. hes loves fishing i dont have lot of coins especially get new electric kayak motor set up. i have two new 6 ah batteries im donating to the project. and my buddy gave me old outboard suzuki didnt run blowed up. thanks for sharing videos there great. stay safe from ole hillbilly buddy. any help be much appreciated.
It would seem like Dewalt is unfavourable compared to Makita in your eyes yet they are both up to the same story as far as parts go.
