      Thankyou! It's a 1950's? Massey harris 22 that has a Volkswagen 1.6 turbo diesel in it. It's fun but also pulls awesome and nimble in small areas of the bush.

    If you peel your logs from the butt end to the small end it will go easier.

      Thankyou, that is USUALY what we do but sometimes we mix it up or do something different. Time of year make a difference and it appears they are getting ready for winter and becoming very difficult to peel.

    Get yourself another chainsaw and add the debarking attachment for the chainsaw.. it will save you TIME and MONEY in the long run. Works great on spruce trees and other trees. With pine we used a ice scrapper and sharpen with curve on the blade and take off stubs of branches also.

      I have never heard of a de barking attachment for a chainsaw, does it mark the trees all up or leave them smooth like hand peeling does. Some peel in sheets and take 20 minutes others are fighting for their life and take 2+hrs each. We are getting late season so I think they are toughening up for the winter. I was planning on cutting the branch nubbs flush when we go to use the logs but with a smaller saw as my stihl if heavy and the 3/8 chain is causing alot of splinters, I am looking for a small limb saw or something similar with a 1/4 chain as it's light for that but also for notching I think it might be easier to handle.

      @@offgridandunorganized It will leave it kind of rough but I personally think it looks good. If you have to keep doing it the hard way, try starting from the middle and work toward the ends. It will save you hours. Good luck!

      Thankyou! I am 2/3 or 3/4 done the logs now so I can't justify a short term expense that won't be used alot at the moment, but the next prodject I will have to look the feasibility, I have a spair saw so it would be worth a test later on. I have changed my technique since that video, a bit more experience. This has been a dream for years to do a sort of traditional feel so the draw knife is hard but I am getting that fulfillment feeling out of it though, so I feel like a power option may not have as much fulfillment though at the same time get more then a couple logs a day done. Keep suggestions coming they are really helpful, especially new tools I have never heard of!

    Great job. Felling and debarking trees is tough work. We had to do so much of that to start our cabin and it wasn’t fun but it sure did pay off! Can’t wait to see the end results!

      Thankyou! It is hard work but at the same time it's not it's rhythmic. Ours are peeling in sheets mostly, the sap is still under the bark so it's not bad I have only had one be a fight so far.

      Battle is the word! Winter is ideal for felling as the moisture content is lower but we do what we got to, the pioneers did it why can't the rest.

      Thankyou! I am still learning the editing software and what it can do, I will try playing around with that and see if that helps. Thankyou for the suggestion.

    Quite a time crunch. Hope the weather cooperates. How did you ind this property?

    • @offgridandunorganized
      @offgridandunorganized  Місяць тому +1

      We will see how the weather behaves, it has been hot and sunny all summer but the early spring has got us wondering if it's an early winter coming or not. Usualy by the end of October thers snow up here, last year second week of November had 6 inches. And we found this place through the realtor.ca (real-estate website) just one of the listings we search alot of areas and after looking at a dozen+ places we found this one and it met our needs as well as was in the budget.

      I am sorry about that, there is chapters but what do you mean by subtitles as we don't really talk so there is not much to have in writing, could you please elaborate on what you would desire?

    Please teach your GF not to use the draw knife straight but rather pull on an angle.
