If I “find” something, and it doesn’t try to start with half a dozen pulls,I usually take the plug out and inject some gas into the chamber. If it burns off that gas it tells me that I have a spark and it is capable of running. If nothing happens I’ll check for a spark. If I have a good spark then I’ll strip down the carb. Loved your video. Did not know the trick with the governor spring. That’s my fact for the day. Cheers.
I've got this same generator. I also have a larger one that I connect to a transfer switch. But that little Powermate never fails to start, I wish I could say the same for the larger one. I've had it for over 17 years and will never let it go. I drain it after every use and have never had an issue with it. I watched this video because I thought about cleaning the carb.
Proper storage is important, and you already are on top of that 👍. As for the bigger one, I have found that some machines just have a bad attitude...lol
I have not seen a generator with a quantum engine. I like it. You have to have more than one of each thing. 3-5 mowers, 3 leaf blowers and 4 weed eaters. then you are good. i am sure you are there. LOL
There's 12 or 13 riding mowers in the back yard right now...lol. To be fair, these are almost all resale machines that will get worked on and ready to sell in the spring.
I have the green version. Just wanted to say thanks for the information. My problem is fuel related also, runs great, but leaks fuel while running. Love the meter btw.. God Bless and have a great day 🇺🇸👍🏼👊🏼
Working on one of these that has sat unused for 20 years. Starts fine but seems to be idling way to high and stalls when moving the choke to the run position.
Well I do usually try to sell them, but this little one is just the right size to hang on to. Much more manageable than my large generator when needed for small jobs.
Good generator... mine just stop working and the output its Just 2volt... all the coil are good and the capasitor good too... dont know what else do i have to vérify...thikns about magnetise the center part... ???
You could try jumping the generator part to get it energized again. I don't do it, I don't really recommend it for safety. But there are videos on how to do it.
Great video! I just acquired the same generator. Silly question(s) but where's the oil drain plug on this unit; and how much does it take? I've looked around the base of the block but no luck. Does this require a vacuum pump to remove the old oil or is it hiding underneath the plastic shroud? Thank you in advance. Regards, Joe
Hey Joe. Just dump it over on the side and drain the oil out of the filler tube. Most lawnmowers have been like that for a while now. Should take between 1/2 and 3/4 of a quart.
Hey pretty cool I found this video. I have one of these but in green. I had same issues as you but after cleaning my carb it only likes to run with the choke open. Not sure what to do now I dont see any adjustments I can make on it and I want it running for this winter. I have had mine since 98 or 99 always been stored indoors. Ran it for maybe 2hrs max and thats was 1hr run time and the other hour is all the times I ran it once a year. I was thinking maybe I need or replace carb??? I dont know much about small engines. I am just a girl who wants her generator to work if I need one this winter. I am good with mechanical stuff, my dad built street rods and I built a lot of them with him so I know my way around bigger engines :D Wish I seen more on you cleaning that carb, I wonder if I missed something but if I can buy a new carb I will do that instead. Any idea on what carb I can replace this one with please??? Thanks for your time.
If it will only run with the choke on, it means its not getting enough fuel. You'll have to remove the carb and the emulsion tube to clean it out very well. Or, pick up a new carb and install it. I really don't care for the cheap carbs from Amazon or eBay myself, but some people have had decent luck with them. Can you post the Model, Type, Code numbers from the engine ID tag up here so I can figure out what carb you need?
In bought the same unit last week and bought a eBay carb for it,, my question is there is no fuel shutoff valve on the generator, so I put an inline shutoff on it. Will that be ok ? Because it did not come with one and I’m wondering if that’s done for a reason. Love your channel and looking forward to hearing from you.
@@randomwrenching update: after installing the inline filter I decided to pop off the carb and clean it,,and it was bad but after I cleaned it I put it back on and she fired up first pull and ran sweet, I’ll just keep the cheesy eBay carb for prosperity.. thanks again for your videos, they are very helpful. 👍
great video, you have a new subscriber, I have a generator exactly like the one in the video, I want to change the oil, what type and size of oil do you recommend? Thanks in advance
Great video man ...I have one ,mines stop working,I pull n pull n pull the string and nothing.the I get all tired ,n mad cause I want it to work ,it use to work...are you selling your ,?
Great video, (new subscriber) quick question- Is there any way to make generater more quiet. (Muffler add on or insulated box) My neighbors would shoot me if I kept this on all day (even with power outage) lol Thanks!!!
Thanks for the comment and the sub. The most effective way I have seen to reduce noise is to put the whole thing in a vented box. I have not done this myself, I would be concerned with heat issues. Adding a different or bigger muffler does almost nothing. The noise they make is a mechanical noise, not exhaust noise.
I just pick up one off the street. It’s seized but I bet I can get it working again. 1hour Run time on these units? Not really useful to power a freezer in a pinch, I will Probably sell it

Thanks for the great comment. I do the same with carb spray.
Congrats on 1000 subscribers should be much higher
Thanks!
That was a straight forward fix on a nice little generator. Congratulations on your milestone of 1000 subscribers 👏 🙌.
Thanks Len!
Congrats on 1K!
Thanks Ken!

1.01 Subscribers, you are on a roll brother.
It's been a long road to 1000, but it's worth it.
Nice work, just inherited one …… appreciate the video 👍

Thanks for watching and for the great comment, Donnie! Sounds like a couple new carb seals might fix it up for ya.
I’m a subscriber now. Always something to work on, never hurts to have another brain to help ya along.

Lol. Same here!!
You accumulate them and don't sell them? You just described me. Nice video.

😂 Warrens there!! Awesome!! Lol🔥🔥🔥

pick one up had it running a small time does time does same to charge ,but try with running longer
Thanks for video do you recall oil capacity? And can you tell me more about this ultra sonic cleaner maybe a link to what it is?
Oil should be just under a quart I believe, it's been a while. I do have a video about that cleaner in my shop tools playlist.
Olá, sou do Brasil RJ, tenho um gerador igual a esse.
Ele é 2t?
Precisa levar óleo na gasolina?
Me ajuda por favor

@@joeyv2008 Thanks for the update, glad it worked out for you!
With today's crappy fuel , I need to invest in ultra sonic cleaner. What one would you suggest for occasional use? I know you get what you pay for.
Most of them that are all stainless steel are half decent machines. Mine is from Amazon and has cleaned hundreds of carbs with no problems.
great video, you have a new subscriber, I have a generator exactly like the one in the video, I want to change the oil, what type and size of oil do you recommend? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the sub! I recommend SAE30 oil in these. When they run, they are usually run at wide open.
Im trying to surprise my dad with the one he has, but idk much about any of this… what type of oil should I use? I thing that’s the only thing left
I'd use any decent brand of oil in an SAE30 weight for these. They run wide open for their entire life.

I think this one is going to stay here, it's a little more handy than the big one I have. Much more portable.
Are in ontario I might have some units you would be interested in
