Ok, this Jag is not dead. As an aluminium version, it's still worth repairing, and there are still classic cars specialists around, to rebuild missing parts for this car. The most important is that nobody was severely hurt, as it looks clearly like a fatal collision, at least for the Jaguar. Damages on the Opel are impressive, given the 70 years conception difference between those cars.
This could easily have been fatal for the Jaguar driver. The XK has rack and pinion steering with the steering rack right at the front. A very long non-collapsible steering column goes to the steering wheel which has a hard central boss. This design was common on sports cars in the 40's and its an absolute killer in a front on collision. The Jaguar driver is very lucky and the woman should be in prison.
I restored and maintained X K series Jaguars for well over 14 years, my mother, Patricia Baker was the president of the J.O.C. north America and the president of the Jaguar Drivers Club of north America and both my parents each had a 57 Xk 140, a fixed head and a drophead, and each also had a June 1967 build E type, she showed and drove both of hers competitively, was a great influence on my career, but anyway, this idiotic accident, breaks my heart, just glad that these gentlemen weren't injured badly

That can be restored, there are Jaguar classic cars specialists in the UK who would be able to restore the car. It will take a long time but that could be restored to its former glory. Let’s hope it can be. You’ll be amazed what specialist panel beaters can do. Being a Jaguar XK120 there will be parts available. There will be damage to the chassis, suspension but that’s not unsurmountable. Possible damage to the engine, again it will be the ancillaries that will be damaged. Could be back on the road in 12 month. It will have been insured to the value of the cars worth and the insurance company would pay out for its total restoration claiming off the third parties insurance, especially as it wasn’t the drivers fault.

If it is a matching numbers original 1948 car and the chassis is so damaged it needs replacing, and the block is cracked or worse, it's never going to be the same and has lost it's 'value'. Anyone know which country this occurred in? I'm puzzled by how they managed to damage the right side of each car....normally if you drive on the right side of the road and have a head-on hit, it's left side to left side....
This accident occured in Austria, and they drive on the right hand side there. And I have no clue about how this collision happened, the Jaguar sitting on the left side of the road, mostly damaged right, does not look like a collision as described in this video.
I had a XK120 for over 50 years and only recently sold it. It was my eternal fear of some one hitting my right hand side/steering side head on and shoving the 5 foot long steering column into my chest. This car can be restored again, it has a huge chassis, but if it is one of the very rare all aluminium body shells then it may be a bit more difficult.
I do hope a repair is completed. I would love to follow the rebuild if anyone can arrange it. So fortunate injuries were limited. GOOD LUCK from the UK.
You'd get up to 30 years for murder. But unfortunately this type of accident wouldn't warrant this length of prison time even if she hit another modern car. I think insurance companies should refuse to pay out any claims like they do for driving under the influence of alcohol or the vehicle not currently road legal all accidents found to be caused by drivers using their cellphones! Soon as all insurance starts to do that the better so that we should see less accidents caused by cellphone distractions! I hope this Jaguar can be professionally repaired.
Very nasty. Repair would stat with a new chassis, engine and likely gearbox, plus nearly all the bodywork forward of the front bulkhead. Her insurers will really love her..... Telephones should be banned in cars unless properly wired in.
The Opel had strayed to the left hand side of the road , this meant the Jag would confront it head on , the Jag driver then had no where to go so did the same , swerve to the left in an attempt to avoid collision , so both vehicles were on the wrong side of the road at the time of collision .
Luckily no one was seriously hurt, it's devastating for the Jaguar owner but I think some of the comments are a bit extreme about the driver who hit them. This happens all the time, people are distracted by modern technology in their cars. Because this accident involved a classic and not just another modern car maybe that's why some of the responses are a bit OTT.
Once a car has heavy damage to the front suspension / steering like that even if repaired it will never drive as good again. An impact like that affects the whole car's geometry so a lot of that damage is still unseen and could even be at the opposite end of the car.

This is a classic example of what happens when you put 2 Italians behind the wheel of an English sports car. In a Ferrari or Lambourghini, they would certainly have maneuvered around this crash.

That car is totalled. Definitely not worth rebuilding. The frame is damaged beyond repair. Sure you could frame swap it but then the numbers wouldn’t match and the value plummets. I have owned XK 120’s for 47 years and rebuilt a few. Best to just find another XK 120.
Before mobile phones it was people fiddling with the radio or lighting a cigarette. I have even seen women applying makeup whilst driving. The XK120 can be repaired, the issue is the cost.
It's not destroyed. If the car's worth money, somebody will repair it. You don't scrap a vehicle like this. The value of one in good condition is around £200,000. (Of course it was made in 1948, not 1848).

Insurance companies are the biggest scams there is . We dont need them . If you drive and cause damage to another car and or cuases harm or death . Your going to prison . Death = 100 years , Harm will vary from 5years to 50 years . Damage to the other car you have two choices paying for that car or prison . Time depends on amount of damage .
I see many many people looking at phones while in traffic. Now Im not a prude, I do some texts very very occasionally, like while decelerating to a stop sign, very low chance of weird situation. But its there, everywhere. Law needs to step up and force disable of cell phone while over 10mph.FCC where areyou?
Screens of any description have no place in a car .
Button locations can be memorised easily that’s why we had buttons in cars for years .
🔥💪
The Jag for sure have a insurance that cover something, not entire car. The loss is huge but it s good that the people doesn t been killed or injured. Otherwise...
I'm actually surprised that a 1948 taken that much damage from a modern car swip hit... you would've thought the jaguar just needed a little buff job only.
Imagine explaining it to insurance
You destroyed a 70yo Jaguar?!
No, really tell me, I don't what that car is.
"Park `em; don`t drive or fly `em" ! Another historical mechanical antique LOST forever.....Any owner of such rolling (or flying) ART that chooses to drive it on public highways is a FOOL !!
Yes, lost🥲
I know how this guy feels as a kid in high school I bought a mint shape 69 Mac 1 Mustang and I ended up getting T boned man that effected me for months till I found out how much I was getting through the insurance..
Oh no.
I am stunned how strong the Jag is. Most oldtimers, like mine, would be pancake after a collision like this.
The Jaguar looks like it's on the British side of the road ?.Hit on the right hand side ?.Strange.
I see people busy looking at their phones everyday while they’re driving. This is sad and I hope it can be repaired but on the plus side at least no one is badly injured.
This is a classic example of what happens when you put 2 Italians behind the wheel of an English sports car. In a Ferrari or Lambourghini, they would certainly have maneuvered around this crash.
Interesting thought
If this happened during a race why are the public allowed to drive on the race track at the same time? The organisers must have shit for brains.
Where did this occur. Why are both cars smashed on their RF?
Cause they were heading towards each other. The woman was driving the opposite way on the same road so she veered to her right hitting the other car on its right side heading the opposite direction.
@@TheAnunnaki-NYC If they were driving on the RHS of the road it would be the LH fronts that connected, remember this was in Italy where they drive on the right.
@@453421abcdefg12345 Wow, good point lol. They drive on the right like here in the US.
Looking at the skid marks of the jag and looking at that Opel i would Say the jag whas absolutly the one that was not on the right lane, that opel turned 180 by the impact.
Mayby she was looking at her phone but the fact that he was in a rally could clearly suggest to much speed or looking at his Map or talking to his navigator
Someone’s head hit the windshield
Holy smokes 😮
I would know the insurance broker face when the Jag repair bill will come...
What a chewing gum story🤦♂️ one minute of content was enough 🤣
Sorry
That car is totalled. Definitely not worth rebuilding. The frame is damaged beyond repair. Sure you could frame swap it but then the numbers wouldn’t match and the value plummets. I have owned XK 120’s for 47 years and rebuilt a few. Best to just find another XK 120.
Real Jaguar or replica? The paint doesn't look well applied.
0:48 1848, huh?? Jag was ahead of their time! Lol!
Yes, I messed up 😿
Before mobile phones it was people fiddling with the radio or lighting a cigarette. I have even seen women applying makeup whilst driving.
The XK120 can be repaired, the issue is the cost.
Apparently, someone was calling to tell her the house was on fire😢
It's not destroyed. If the car's worth money, somebody will repair it. You don't scrap a vehicle like this. The value of one in good condition is around £200,000. (Of course it was made in 1948, not 1848).
Unless they had 100 years of development before going into production🤣
@@howardosborne8647 I don't get the joke. There are craftmen in Britain, mosy England, who can rebuild one easily. If any parts, such as body panels are needed. They could fabricate them from scratch.
Women, mobile phones, and cars are a deadly combination.
Why use twenty words when four hundred will do ?
I dont want to be president like Kevin Malone. 400 it is
Lucky it wasn't a new one!
Matt Armstrong can repair it
That will polish out...
I quit car shows because of this. But my reason is different. Show car owners at car shows can be just as stupid.
There's so much money involved in classic cars now what's the betting it gets repaired?
What odds you give?
@@TS4-2M-en6jz I'm not giving any.
Triggers broom!!
Oh he pissed
Insane 😢
Damn shame, was a nice car, doubtful it can be repaired??
Shame. Beauty really
It will be repaired , its a very valuable racecard and they do get crashed from time to time. There are plenty of people who specialise in this kind of work
It can be repaired, no problem. Search the internet for the rebuild of the Lindner Nocker E-Type or Aston Martin DB4 GTZ "2 VEV". And many others. Even the XJ220 destroyed in the Crash Test way back was restored, by Don Law I think.
Shite but hopefully the car can be repaired and everyone seemed to be ok
Yes 🙌
That'll buff out.
Don't text and drive classic cars!
It'll rub out 😂😂
Can be fixed
It’s only a scratch
Это не opel,это ford!И оператор читает текст как школьник!😂😂😂
I’m sorry for both
