Great comments. PPA and APP has made is very difficult to find on TV just to watch it live. Some coverage has been choppy, lousy audio, bad camera angles.
Travis is a great guest. I enjoyed the conversation a lot. On a different subject, if the goal is to slow the game of Pickleball down, all they need to do is increase the size of the ball itself. Table Tennis did this back in 2000 to solve the same basic problem. Just for example, if pickleballs had a 4" diameter instead of a 3" diameter, think how different the game would be. Paddle speeds wouldn't matter as much because the ball would decelerate so rapidly, and hands battles (and points in general) would last longer. I'm not sure what the "most fun" size would be, but they could try different diameters until they found the right balance. Larger ball size also makes it easier for viewers to follow the ball. Lack of ball visibility is one of the things that hurt Racketball's popularity with viewers.
The PPA has decided to play favorties with their golden boy and the company he represents. Joola players are allowed to use cheater paddles, wonder how all the other pros feel about this, and I also wonder how much money is being slipped under the table from joola to pardoe
let's not forget that out of those 8 defeats that fed had against ben, some were during fed's first year playing singles while ben was already number 1 for quite some time. if ben and fed played the next 10 finals, fed would take at least 6
49:48 Shamelessly Holding Pickleball Players Accountable: Insights from the PicklePod Podcast Exploring the Impact of Chris Cali's Hook of the Week Segment and Accountability in Pickleball Culture In a recent excerpt from the PicklePod Podcast, hosts Thomas Shields and Zane Navratil, delve into the emerging trend of accountability in the pickleball community with their guest Travis 'The Rattlesnake' Rettenmaier, sparked by Chris Cali's "Hook Of the Week" segment. Following Zane's suggestion, Chris began featuring hooks of the week on the Sorry Not Sorry Podcast last week, aimed at spotlighting questionable plays and holding players accountable for their actions on the court. Travis applauds Chris's straightforward approach, labeling him a "Shameless fool" who fearlessly speaks the truth. However, Thomas raises an intriguing point about the challenges of accurate play review, highlighting instances where the wrong shot was under scrutiny during match analysis. Despite these hiccups, Zane and Thomas emphasize the segment's value in promoting accountability within the pickleball community. Reflecting on the impact of the segment, the PicklePod hosts speculate on potential collaborations between the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) and Chris. Ultimately, the discussion underscores the growing importance of transparency and accountability in pickleball culture, as players strive to avoid the ignominy of landing on the "Sorry Not Sorry Podcast" hook of the week segment.
So who's Travis? Maybe give some background on the guest for people who have zero idea who this person is. You never even mentioned his last name directly, aside from the Wikipedia mention. Yes, I can read the description, but it's ironic there isn't an introduction to this guest, when the guest is bringing up marketing of players.
An intro is wise. Is the 8th best men's pickleball player on Earth. Former 57th-ranked doubles tennis pro, co-owns Florida Smash, and Crescent Lake protector for life.
I have 2 Joola Gen 3 ABs that sound like maracas when you shake them and have now started to hit so hard they are completely uncontrollable to drop. They are hitting as hard if not harder than the gearbox power versions. Just ridiculous. Back to Gen 2 for me.
I love the Tifosi's on Zane! I went to their web site and wanted to make sure I identified the right style/color before ordering .. Svago in crystal champaign?
Paddles that hit hard sell and brands have taken notice. There like taking a gun to a knife fight. If a player has a gen 3 paddle and is targeting me it’s not fair that I can’t hit it a them just as hard. Players are going to want a gen 3 paddle to retaliate
Thank you for your time and posting. I was there at St. George on Zane's spin serve. I don't think you were cheating, it was just fun (you were laughing when serving), and Alshon thought it was pretty funny too, especially when he told the ref to pay attention. That was hysterical. IMO, PPA purposely creates situations that assist their top players but are actually dishonest and unsportsmanlike. That Pablo situation is a great example and was likely not an accident. Again, IMO, PPA takes the paddle challenge away because all their top players are using JOOLA, and (most likely), JOOLA asked PPA to take the challenge away. People who buy these new JOOLA Gen 3 paddles are the ones (mostly) who could care less about other players. It gives them an advantage so they buy it. I'm not saying the people who buy them are jerks, they buy them for the advantage of play, no matter what. :)
I hate the joola paddle. Got hit in the D last night by an overhead and it knocked me down for minutes. . Everyone is using glasses now. I played against 3 joolas and all they did was wack the ball out of bounds. They even started playing out balls to make points longer. 5 -6 hits max. It was the worst game I have played in. Worst experience ever. 😊
I like how Travis didn't hesitate to stand up for Fed. And his reasoning is clear, concise, and checks out. From an objective standpoint, Fed has been outperforming Ben in singles (except when they play each other). Which kinda makes me sad, since I'm a big Ben fan.
I hear Joola may be filing a $45 million dollar lawsuit against the USAP. I hope so, this is long overdue!. What independent body is overseeing the USAP testing model, holding them accountable, making them more timely, more responsive to their clients? The USAP is the problem! They have no transparency, and no accountability, they're a black hole. Who is the third party tester, what is their company name, what are their qualifications, what is their track record, years in business, customer list, customer references, what scientific equipment are they using, where are their detailed, published, scientific test results for each paddle tested? The USAP collects too much money, tens of millions of dollars, to be shrouded in such secrecy. Sunlight is the best disenfectant. Pickleball is going soft with all this talk about injury, liability etc. There's a simple solution, wear protective eyewear, when compared to paddle prices, this is a simple, cheap solution. Don't dumb down pickleball more then it is. Be progressive, continue to evolve, keep an open mind, remember your viewers.
You guys mentioned Salome Davidze on really poor line calls. I agree but I think she is getting better. But if you watch her, she is the only player who always thanks all the refs and the audience, brings the ball over to the ref, etc. I met her in Mesa a couple years back, she is very nice and polite.
@@buckwheat178 just watched a recent singles with ALW and Jensen First point ALW calls a solid line shot out. That's some cheating shit knowing Jensen will tilt. Anything to win
Travis, its your opinion that Gen 3 paddles are a detriment to the sport. The future is yet to be unveiled. As for Selkirk, thats obviously a self serving letter you sent to your pro players. Also, Selkirk, raquetball is not pickkeball.
Hey, if you're up for trying a relatively a new method that makes the process a whole lot easier, and get a flat strong chest within 30 days or less, just go ahead and go’ogle Baker Henistole.
Gen 3's gotta go. It's otherworldly how much speed and spin a well hit ball can have. You can hear the whistling from the spin from point of contact all the way til it lands and that's just not normal
On they other hand you have a 58 year old women who’s never had that much power and now she can compete with the younger men there you have it I Love my new Joola generation 3 paddie!
State Teams taking off more n more would be great from a "support" standpoint. Graham is the "pig pen" of pickleball. Gizmo is deep into youth pickleball promotion. Helping kids stay out of troulble.
I have seen lots of pros speaking out against these paddles and none speaking up for. I see Joola sponsored players staying silent. What is the hold up? Is it all political? Is it because it’s Joola and not Crbn? I played against the Gen 3 Joola and then a delaminated CRBN and couldn’t tell the difference.
The players have more control than they think. Just like the NFL or NBA the owners of the leagues and teams(MLP) have no product without the players. If the players band together to limit the power of paddles they have no choice but to implement restrictions. If the top players stop playing you won’t have a product. There is a reason people watch the PPA over the APP.
At my local court there is a guy that plays with the Ronbus EVA foam paddle and has a prior tennis background. Those forehand drives are coming at you at a pace that is scary dangerous. To be fair most of the balls are hitting the back fence but its a matter of can you dodge them if they are coming at you. Pickle is a lot more fun with extended hands battles instead of picking up out balls.
As usual Travis is full of it. If he thinks people will not watch or be interested because the players are over weight or have man boobs then he needs to take a look at the number one watched sport, golf.
I think i missed it on the sunglass website where their glasses are impact resisitant. Looking cool is not the same as glasses designed not to crack or shatter on impact. Are they actually desogned to absord a balls impact without cracking?
Ben is still the best by far in all events. Ben doesn’t care as much and is not as hungry or willing to hustle to win. Recent results not withstanding.
Couldn’t be more wrong. They want the paddle field to be equal. The new Joolas and GB PPE aren’t even legal paddles. The governing bodies are choosing not to enforce their own rules. That’s what’s going on. Let everyone play with the same paddle and no one would complain. The extra power is making the sport less interesting and strategic at the pro level. Rec players using the new gen 3s are playing like ass too. Hitting even more balls out bc they can’t control the extra power/spin. I’ve played with the new Joolas and I played worse than normal.
Got to love Travis's unfiltered honesty... I could party with this guy, it would be a hoot!
