I was underwhelmed when I saw the gopro launch video but now I've seen a few reviews I'm with you on this Danny, it's actually a fairly decent update. The GPS is no big loss, they made it so difficult to use on the last models that most people didn't bother.
Is there any improvement on the responsiveness and speed of the menus from previous years? One of the things I've always disliked about my gopro is the laggy touchscreen.
No GPS is a big loss. Stop saying it’s not. All the pro features in an action camera are useless. Make a vlogging camera instead for that

I used to be a gopro fan. This time Im going with the DJI. Sick of all the gopro glitches and what a bummer no 1 inch sensor.

Isn’t giving you $500 worth of camera gear you get to keep with the expectation that you will get their other products for free the same as “getting paid” to make this review? This is a hero 11 with a firmware update and removal of the gps chip. It’s still a good camera, but I’m just calling a duck a duck, Not a duck in a bluebird costume. GoPro could just as easily charge people $50 for a firmware update to make their 11’s a 12…. And keep GPS. The only thing the 12 can do that the 11 possibly can’t is the Bluetooth headset connectivity. But we don’t know for sure it can’t, we just assume they “upgraded” the BT chipset instead of just turning on a feature. GP has been known to be shady in the past.

The single feature we can't live without is the Hindsight. When we're fishing, we can show the bite as well as the fight. I don't believe other action cameras have this feature. Love our max lens mod 1.0 on our 9 and 10, waiting on our GoPro 12 and Max Lens Mod 2.0 shipping next week! Thanks Danny for such awesome content. Keep it coming!

I am becoming more and more convinced that the Max Lens mod is a must have. I have not used one on my Hero 9 before but may order the 2.0 when my Hero 12 arrives. Checking to see if I can add one to my preorder as we speak
@@wingandhog I've used the MLM on my GoPro 9 and 10 and it's GREAT for a lot of situations. Not all, but a LOT, like fishing, tubing and roller coaster POV shots.
Hopefully the next firmware update includes a 3.5mm mic input and a 1-inch sensor.
That's what people are asking for - not a speckled paint job, a guaranteed to sound crap audio through Bluetooth function and resolution options that are ultimately wasted on smart phone viewers.
If you spent some money on the Media Mod you get a 3.5mm Mic input :D
1-Inch sensor would be SOO awesome. But also would bring some downsides like focus. but would be so awesome

@@timzander I have two media mods for my 10 & 11. A large and bulky addition to a compact camera, just to plug in audio.
We've had 3.5mm mic inputs since the 1960's.
Can I use GoPro12 only with MaxLens2? I would like to buy it and use it for travel videos mostly. I really don't like changing lens and just keep it simple.
Has the overheating and battery issues been resolved? I noticed you didn’t mention the problems that GoPro has instead you pointed out what’s new,basically software updates,expensive ones….

I did not find that the issues were solved instead you took out the GPS! Big mistake! Also for GoPro plus there is no discount for other cameras with GPS such as the 11. Promoting only the crippled 12.

same or faster. it overheated on my mountainbike outside at 20 degrees when i stopped for cooling down.

I like my Hero 8 but this 12 is compelling but I don't know about the loss of the GPS module. Maybe I should just upgrade to the Hero 11.
I would like you to do video comparision between this one and DJI Action 4 such that you are using the best settings possible to make best videos out of them. There are many videos which do such comparisions, but they dont use best settings to extract best possible footage out of them. Thanks!

Yes, HERO12 Black still supports Max Lens Mod 1.0. Please keep in mind that Max Lens Mod 1.0 does not support the new features + specs available in Max Lens Mod 2.0.

Ok something I really need to know with the bluetooth microphone connection.... Does it work with something like a Sena or Cardo Motorcycle helmet headset. If it does that would be a huge game changer for Motorcycle youtube riders... Please anything if you know!

Hi Danny ! Some decent new features on the 12 but definitely not enough on there for an upgrade. They would of been better delaying the release of the 12 till January 2024 and to bring out a 1 inch sensor and better low light upgrade with all the other stuff too. This way they could of hyped up the teaser promo vids and leaks to gain more interest and then boooom, hit us all hard with a knock out product of the year that all Gopro users would of appreciated. Unfortunately they have deffo lost customer loyalty from this little stunt. Come on GoPro get your act together and give the people a serious upgrade for there loyalty and to match what we all need out of todays future action Camera's. I have faith in you GoPro come on !! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Missing the holiday season would be suicide for Gopro. That’s their strongest quarter by a landslide.
A 1” sensor would mean different body so mods, hoses and batteries would likely not work. Price would increase during a shaky economy, Stabilization would take a massive hit, sensor readout would an issue as well. 1” sensor subs great in theory but there a dozens of reasons it’s not happening yet. Look at the Sonys. They are $700 and offer nothing
@@PhotoBob All good points you make there 👍 The problem though is that there will have to be a change of body size and design soon for them to keep up with demand. GoPro is not great in low light and people want this alot more day by day. In my humble opinion i feel that they should of just waited and brought out the Camera people are waiting and hoping for. I know its an action Camera i get that totally, but it wouldn't have to be a huge design to accommodate a one inch sensor and come on how long are they gonna milk the size and design from the past 5/6 years. They really do need to shift soon and who knows they may hit us with a surprise.

I use my gopro strictly for filming my races so the fact it doesn’t have the gps means I won’t be getting it. I can understand that they’d say it was a less used feature but I think that’s because of the app more then anything.

More people were using the telemetry app vs using the gopro app. If you look online at all of the car videos etc utilizing the GPS feature, it's clear it was used alot. Plus, I would rather have the data than using some stupid remote. That is garbage. Overheating, no GPS, they can kiss my ................
They took out the GPS without offering even a GPS remote and solved no issues. Bad move!
Just pre-ordered the 12. Looks promising. Fingers crossed I won’t be as disappointed as I am with my Hero 9
Same here -upgrading from GP9.
Tip - It's very important to update the firmware, but if a certain update solves all software problems, stick with it and don't update further.
Personally, I've never had any problem with the 9, while the 7 was a total disaster.

@@JohanV66 ..agree concerning firmware updates. The problem I have with the 9 is the uncertainty of whether I am recording or not. It seems to have a mind of its own. It often powers itself off when I think I am recording. When the camera is mounted on top of my helmet there is no way to verify if it’s actually recording or not. I lose Bluetooth connectivity 75% of the time with the GoPro app and remote. I shoved the GoPro remote in a desk drawer and bought Telesin’s which is much more reliable for less than half the cost.
I've just orded the 12 I have the 10 with max lens . Just hate having to double up on stuff like the max lens 2 , should look at a trade in on that gear . Looking forward to getting the 12 .

Same processor, same body…. It’s a software update. It’s good but certainly not the best. The image quality is probably the best but the hero 11 already had that. 🤷🏻♂️

MLM 2.0 is optimized for use with HERO12 Black + cannot be used with HERO11 Black or HERO11 Black Mini.
But it software update , probably they only disable GPS which is probably still inside! Nothing change , it is so sad...

As you can see, the 2.3" sensor has a surface area that is about 25% larger than the 1.9" sensor. This means that the 2.3" sensor can capture about 25% more light, which can lead to better image quality in low-light conditions.
In addition to image quality, the size of the sensor also affects the field of view of the camera. A larger sensor will have a narrower field of view than a smaller sensor, which can be useful for portrait photography.
No action cam has a 1.9" or 2.3" CMOS sensor - because that would be approximately corresponding to an ASP-C sensor.
What you mean is a 1/1.9" or a 1/2.3" sensor - and here the 1/1.9" sensor is larger than a 1/2.3" sensor.

I bought the DJI Action 4, and tried 4k 60fps in an "cold enviroument" 16 degrees celsius not even in the sun, i tried all 3 fully charged batteries, newest firmware, and after 15minutes it shuts down because of overheating....:( im gonna send it back to amazon and buy the GoPro Hero 12 hope gopro dont overheat and shut down.....:(

Hero11 only got a few firmware updates in its life so i don't expect many updates in Hero12
GoPro is the iPhone of the action camera world. They just upgrade incrementally each release, but only by a small margin to keep people spending and inducing FOMO.

Hi Danny, I used GoPro cameras for about twenty years but have switched over the Action 4 and sold my GoPro 11. Just about everything is better on the Action 4 than the GoPro 11 and the new GoPro 12, the overheating is a big problem with GoPro’s. A big one for me is the magnetic mounting, just awesome, no more fiddling around to change mounts. I do a lot of ebiking, I purchased two Action 4 cameras, one for the front of the bike and one for the rear of the bike. The camera mounts on the bike are locked into place so I don’t have to check the camera view and adjust the framing every time I mount the cameras. This saves a lot of time especially when you are using two cameras. The menu is simple to use on both the front and back of the camera, the DJI microphone is plug and play and using the Freewell filters enhances the photo and video quality. I prefer the video from the Action 4 v/s the GoPro, the battery life is very good, and I don’t have buy the media mod or any cables. I must disagree with you as I think that overall, the Action 4 is overall is the number one action camera. Thanks for the review.

It seems just fine. Im not riding dirt bikes or sky diving so some of the new features don't mean much. They need to keep innovating so DJI doesn't go to sleep.

you've done a great videos previously, but this one,I have to disagree with you on your title "king". Do a fair comparison video with Dji Osmo Action 4 to proof Hero 12 is the king of action camera todate.
Chin mount on a helmet is pretty much the human body is the gimbal. That’s not a really fair comparison.
In all honesty, I’m in for HDR and the log profile. That’s a huge upgrade for my use cases.

And who can forget that feeling of not knowing if your files gets corrupted or not? Or if you have the camera mounted out of sight, the feeling of not knoiwng if the camera already froze?
It seems that the best way to get rid of gopro issues is to have a Gopro company send you a camera for free every release. Who knew!

Gopro is dead for now and I hope the wake the F up and not go bankrupt because we, the consumers, need competition amongst camera making companies.
It is not even in the stores - and it is already labeled "Best Action Camera." Go figure... That battery life will be put to real test once people start using it. Finally, making the app show real time video during record is in my opinion the biggest upgrade they made with this iteration. Had they had this feature these past few years I would have started out with GoPro vs original DJI Action, 3 and now 4. Your reaction to the removal of the GPS feature to me looks like your honesty is showing through. Removing something like that is NOT an upgrade. :) GoPro 12 looks like a very nice camera with some features that edge out the DJI Action 4 but all things considered I am happy I stayed with DJI Action 4. Gopro has outdated hardware, processor is weak the reason it stop working . Dji has powerfull processor making it better camera because it work. The new king is the one that works dji make there own processors its easy for them to make better camera
its primary use will be for 5k at 60 fps for sure ,, il be selling my 9 for it
HDR and LOG are not enough to make this great. GPS removal is an instant dealbreaker as well. Rather get the 11 for les money, keep the GPS and alter video in post with DR to get a HDR look if I need it. Not all that great from the 14 reviews ive watched.
And if DJI had actually gone 5.3k or higher - GoPro would be in the same predicament they were 2 years ago where they were hurting for money and people were flaming pissed.
