The one thing I really love about Sonic X Shadow Generations is that when there are sad scenes, you actually feel something for Shadow and Maria, and Gerald.
@@ThatOneGuyNamedAlexprolly cuz Gerald and Maria here are actual living characters instead of being long dead plot devices used to accelerate Shadow’s character and the lore of the franchise
I think right now it's good to reaffirm shadow's story this way because he's been so far divorced from anything relevant for so long. From here, if they write it well, they can progress and grow his character in different directions based on who he is without it feeling odd. So it makes me excited to see whats to come with him.
This game is just so peak. I was waiting each day for the early access release of this amazing Sonic title, and it was worth it. And when I fought my mans, Mephiles 12 years later. I absolutely lost it and i also completely lost it when he got revealed in the trailer.
Thank you so much for the super thanks!!! You are SUPER‼️🐐💙❤️💛 The game was SOO worth the wait! I hope with the reappearance of Mephiles, he can somehow return🙏😖
I loved the hype I felt over this game coming out. My first Sonic game was SA2Battle. Seeing Shadow's past come up again since Shadow the hedgehog back in 07 or somewhere around there returning Black Doom and the Black Arms was really neat. When I played Shadow the hedgehog back in the day I always felt like Shadow should have gotten some kind of hidden abilities because he was made with alien DNA but it didn't happen that way. Clarifying that now with this new game feels like the ideas someone on team SEGA finally eating their cake because alot of this stuff were already questions that were sort of left unanswered. This game gave more clarity to every last detail about Shadow's past and bringing to light exactly his relationship with Maria and Gerald. Love every moment seeing them interact with each other and how much Maria loves her Shadow ❤️
I love how you talk about your memory of SA2B. I love that game too. It’s a game near to my heart because of how much my brother and I would play it together :)
I've never understood why people hate on Ian Flynn, he basically fixed Sonic's characterization, as well as Tails, Amy and Shadow. AND we're finally getting cool interesting stories and concepts for the first time since Unleashed
Honestly, while the reworked cutscenes for Sonic Generations were unnecessary, there were some changes I felt made things better. Like, Tails seems more intelligent, Amy is treated with more respect, while still being a total Sonic fangirl, Knuckles is less of a joke, the two Eggmen are more cooperative with each other, and the characters at the end are more motivational than just being cheerleaders. But that’s just my humble honest opinion.
8:55 In terms of controls ,generations continued the unleashed engine and design idea where sonic is more of a speeding car and the challenge is to control him and react fast enough ,in shadow gens there’s more freedom in controls with the stages reverting back to the adventure games design that’s why he is significantly slower then sonic gens ,both games had different ideas of what level design should be and had different controls to match that
I would love some DLC for both games, maybe include stages from the 3DS version of Sonic Generations like Mushroom Hill, Emerald Coast, Water Palace and Tropical Resort. Or even bosses like Big Arm and Egg Emperor. Or new bosses like Infinite and stages from other sonic games, like the Advance Trilogy or the Storybook Duology.
As a enjoyer of the story, characters and lore/continuity, (and thus reallly grateful to Ian and the rest of the lore team to restoring Sonic to how it was before the Meta Era) Infinite CAN NOT be DLC in this game. The future levels only work in Shadow's campaign because Shadow does not do anything or experience anything that would jeopardize the timeline. Meeting Infinite too early would throw off their interactions in Forces. Sure Forces is a game already rife with continuity errors (heck it created the Classic theory that SEGA has being trying to constantly debunking since) and Infinite himself is a character rife with untapped potential that would do wonders under Ian's pen but this isn't how you go about saving him.
I really liked it! I Sonic Gens by it self its an 8.8/10 for me and Shadow Gens by itself is 9.3/10 I absolutely love the levels especially the 2D ones it felt like an improvement of Sonic Rush's formula! (Except for Chaos Island Act 2 it was quite boring and Colors-like) The Bosses are all fantastic! Especially Mephiles I keep coming back to that hard mode version and I love the open world and its challenges!
Sonic Gens: As a fan of the original Sonic Generations, I really did enjoy my time here. That being said, the redub/rewrite just didn't do it for me. I feel like it sucked all the charm out of the original's dialogue and voice delivery/voice direction, and unfortunately, there is no option to switch back to that, which is something I was hoping for as soon as we heard about this. Overall, though, it's still Sonic Generations, and I'm glad I can play it on my Switch! Shadow Gens: Yea, this is pretty dang good! It's not my favorite Sonic game, but it's certainly a W in my book. I wish the music was more prominent and that the Doom Morph wasn’t confusing to use on my first playthrough. I'm also quite bummed that Shadow didn't get a level from his own game, and the fact that we visit Radical Highway three times (Space Colony Ark, Rail Canyon, Sunset Heights), *and then* we get a whole level of it. Overall, I think I still prefer Sonic Generations, but Shadow Generations is certainly a great entry!
U make a fantastic point about how Shadow doesn’t have a level from his own game. That’s something that I had not even realized💀💀💀💀 Having something basic like a westopolis would have made sense. They could have had Shadow fight more of “those black creatures”😂 I’m glad you enjoyed the game dude!! Love the pfp and name as well🤣🐐
@@SONICSTA LOL I'm glad you enjoyed it as well. This whole Shadow thing is something I did for the month of June, and I'm doing it again for the month of December. I'll be reverting back in January, though.
2 things that I think make Shadow better to control than sonic are 1) Trying to make Sonic walk in an open 3D area is a total pain while Shadow controls very smoothly, and B) Sonic's 2D sections feel like he has 3D controls but is enclosed in a tight space while Shadow feels likes he controls on a 2D plane. I was disappointed that there was no Infinite when I played the game and still want him in the game. I would personally give the game a 9/10.
Was waiting for you to cover SXS Gens! Loved the video! :) All of this is my own opinion of course but Shadow Gens is my favorite Sonic game. Call it new game hype, but this game is pretty much everything I ever wanted from a modern sonic game. I feel like most 3D sonic titles have incredibly high peaks followed by mediocre to low valleys (For instance, Speed stages vs Mech/Treasure hunting, Day stages vs Werehog Stages, Team Chaotix campaign) but this game is consistently great all the way through. The collectables can be annoying for 100% completion but they are totally optional. From Space Colony Ark all the way to Neo Devil Doom, I was having a blast. I just prefer a consistently great experience compared to a game that has more to offer but dips in quality. I'm biased like you but Kingdom Valley and Mephiles returning were the cherry on top!
Thanks for watching bro!! It’s good to see u! I gotta agree too! There was nothing in this game that made me feel like they lost steam. Everything about it felt so high octane and free flowing. Played that all the way through at midnight launch🤣
Bet reason why Sonic Team didn’t add Infinite is cuz Gens Shadow meeting Infinite earlier would mess up Forces story. If Gens Shadow meet Infinite n beat him, then wouldn’t Forces Shadow remember him n clap his cheeks easily?
Rewrites from Ian aren’t that bad and I appreciate Modern Sonic actually talk to his friends after freeing them from the white void instead of him just stay silent and give his friends with a 👍🏾,😁, 😒, etc. However the real problems I seen folks have with the rewrites is how cheap they made it (Which I agree with). Like legit they could at least reanimate scenes that match with the redub lines. The redub scenes either look like some terrible anime game with bad lip syncing issues or out of context like Knuxs asking Classic where his island go. For acting, felt lifeles. For example, Mike just doesn’t have the same energy for both Eggman. He doesn’t even try to sound different for Classic Eggman n Modern Eggman sounds less energetic. Hell I even noticed that the team kept the same exact Eggman’s laughing like a crackhead like OG Gens instead of current Mike do a retake of the laugh. If u play OG Gens a lot, then u can tell they kept that exact laugh. Which I think they done it cuz current Mike probably doesn’t have the same energy as he done back in the meta era. And honestly most of the actors just don’t have the same energetic energy compared to OG Gens tbh. Not all of them are bad but Tails, Rouge, Cream, n Charmy noticeably sound off n weak imo. Idk if it’s just voice direction or some actors are just tired, but Gens bad lip sync n voice direction wise is lackluster.
ii use to want infinite in the game too but it dead wouldn’t make since kuhh the simple fact if shadow defeated infinite in here than there would rlly be no problem in forces since shadow already good enough to defeat em now if you get what im saying if they did implement him it would have to be him before the phantom ruby because thats before he was a top tear fighter
@ yehhh i’m already knowing i’m dead the same way it just couldn’t be cannon just need to bring him back in a future game with iynn writing😹😹because he could def be saved
If we're not getting character skins like Silver and Metal Sonic, to swap over modern Sonic or Shadow's models, then I'm not interested in gear customization.
12:26 actually looking back infinite being in the game would’ve made him worse because if he lost to gens shadow then he would be considered lower then now
9/10, didn’t let me play as Shadow in Sonic’s levels and vice versa after beating the game like in SA2. That’d take it to a 15/10 for me, but instead it’s just a 9/10.
Something to note is that if Infinite was a boss in Generations it would completely mess up the power-scaling. Infinite absolutely stomped Sonic during their first fight in Forces, a Sonic that is stronger than Generations Shadow. So if Shadow beat Infinite it would make zero sense.
Well it’s also important to take in account Shadow’s doom powers too! He is constantly gaining more and more power as the game goes on. By the time he were to hypothetically fight Mephiles, its plausible that he could win
A Shadow with Doom powers beating Infinite is very believable. Infinite only won against Sonic cuz he jumped him along with the clones of past villains. Infinite lost to Sonic in the latter fights
I would be over the moon if Sonic x Shadow Generations received the Final Horizon treatment as DLC. Make a genuine sequel DLC campaign to this game where you could play as Classic Sonic (please give him a voice this time), Modern Sonic, and Shadow. Play new levels for the Sonics and Shadow (we need Shadow The Hedgehog video game levels like those Black Comet levels and those digital computer levels). Have new skins like a Genesis sprite for Classic Sonic, Baby Sonic skin for Classic Sonic, a Movie Sonic skin for Modern Sonic, and Adventure 2 skins for Modern Sonic and Shadow. The Time Eater returns with a voice and is more powerful than ever. Experience new bosses for the three like the Hard Boiled Heavies for Classic Sonic, Perfect Dark Gaia for Modern Sonic, Infinite for Shadow, maybe a mini final boss where you play as all three of them in their super forms against Solaris, and a fixed Time Eater final boss fight between the three (it would be cool since Generations is about exploring the past, Classic Sonic would get a chance to become Hyper Sonic again, Modern Sonic would become Super Sonic 2 and maybe we could play as the all-out Cyber energy version of Super Sonic 2, and Shadow would become Super Doom Shadow).
The issue isn’t that Ian and SEGA rewrote stuff for references; it’s that the rewrites are terrible. They made way too many unnecessary and stupid changes when people were completely fine with how it was in the original *Generations*.
