Not only was Mephiles great as a boss but the dialogue enhanced it with him desperately trying to leave the time line he'll inevitably be destroyed in. At one point he even bargains with Shadow that he'd let him live if he removed him from the time line.
That's what happens when you fold over for the people bitching and whining about "Generations story is ass!!! 😭😭😭". You change history just for those who don't understand it.
Great to hear everyone loves the game, but can we please not take out any anger on Ian Flynn. Remember he wrote the great story for Shadow Generation too, and the only reason the Sonic Generations rewrite is the way it is, is because of the mandates SEGA had in place for it. Ian Flynn is the best writer in the franchise, he just needs less restrictions.
Ok, so… two things here: one right before this timestamp, 2:19, and one right after. So, if you’re playing on console, you can’t customize the controls past the legacy and standard options. And the “homing attack is on x” thing is kind of a lie. All they did was make x (square on ps, Y on nintendo switch) also a jump button. You can’t customize the still homing attack using the A button (B on switch, X on ps) to homing attack and air… dash? Not air boost. As for the drop dash… here’s something interesting… Modern Sonic’s drop dash is part of his moveset, while classic sonic’s drop dash requires 30 skill points to use (and is completely limited to levels only)
You people all deserve another 20 years of Pontac and Graff. We finally have two Sonic games in a row that take their stories and character seriously and all that you mass of stupid people can say is complain about the references that Ian Flynn puts in the dialogue. You all deserve another 20 years of Baldy McNosehair jokes over and over again.
I wouldnt really blame Ian Flynn (or however you spell his name) its very clear that the cutscenes being changed was out of his hands and he did the best he could. Shadow generations was written good but you dont hear Ian mentioned by most when talking about by most people. People love to pretend Ian is an evil villain when hes not
ehh. i'm a big fan of ian flynn, but the lack of levity and frequent references (as much as the second theoretically works in generations) are very much hallmarks of his writing. i'm glad for the continued deflanderization of characters, but his writing style does not work with generations.
I disagree with your point on the 2D sections in Shadow Gens. I think that because it is more condensed, I had to react a lot faster to the upcoming platforming and I was able to get a great flow going. Yeah on my first playthrough I was stopped in my tracks several times, but replaying each level (with the exceptions of maybe Space Colony Ark and Chaos Island w/o doom wings) made me really appreciate each 2D level more and I want Sonic team to continue in this direction with 2D. Maybe to compromise we could have a slight speed boost going forward.
4:09 Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the rewrites as well, but I thought some were funny like the interaction between Knuckles and Classic Sonic, as well as Sonic mentioning the Time Stones from CD. I assume Ian Flynn was forcibly told to add this in to warrant the 'remaster' status/ make the impression that there were changes, however I don't think it was Sonic Team's intention to sell this as a remaster and were probably guided by SEGA to do that. Either way, since the story was so nonexistent anyways, it doesn't change my opinion on Sonic Generations. HOWEVER they should not repeat this with any new remaster/remakes like Heroes, Unleased etc
I mean if they are going to remake heroes or any of the older games (if the rumors are true and the next in the list is a rerelease of heroes it needs to be a from the ground up remake, that game is OLD) a rewrite is going to be necesary becuase they will basically need to change everything
@@carso1500 Sure, but I don't want them to change major things like Amy's personality, because it's only changing things for the sake of it and to fit the modern agenda of characters, which shouldn't be necessary because your changing the source material Obviously, they could do it properly, but Sonic Generations didn't really prove they can do that, hence why I'm skeptical

i think they missed the oppurtunity to add post generations stages in the sonic portion as well, and i think i already have an idea which ones they could have used lost world - frozen factory forces - metropoltian highway frontiers - ares island rival boss- infinite main boss - the end (final horizon version)
Again, Ian has historically been forced by sega to do his best with a really shitty direction they give him. I don't think the dialogue is GOOD, but I will defend Amy being a less cringy obsessed character and being far more sensible in general. Yes he's wordy and makes references, but at the same time it makes less sense in the context of the past 7 years of sonic content to say the characters don't remember these places. I think he did his best with what was given, even if it isn't ideal.
At first I was worried about this game but after playing Shadow Generations I love it! The visuals were great in levels and cutscenes. Perfect 10/10 game!
I wasn't sure about the Chaos Island 1 remix when I heard it on its own, but in the actual level with the heavy use of the Doom Morph... creature... the types of sounds they used make a lot more sense than I thought they would.
Imo about the rewrite, I also don't like it, especially for Amy. When I was a kid, I used to really like Amy and I used to find her obsession with Sonic to be charming and I didn't find her weak in anyway as I always thought her Piko hammer was powerful. But with how Amy is currently being written, I can't help but find her a little insufferable. I skipped all Amy dialogue in Frontiers because I just couldn't stand her. I'm seeing in her what I didn't like about Sally Acorn, and this is bringing my to my next point. I'm feeling that Amy is slowly starting to be written like Sally, sure people love Sally, especially those who grew up with the Archie comics, but I didn't like Sally, I always say Amy as this obsessive fan girl who though she might be annoying, she can be a valuable ally who can be relied on especially when it comes to touching the hearts of Sonic's enemies. But now I just see her as bland and boring That's my take at least
One thing i don't like Shadow Generations is the ranking system but it sucks how it is a Same as Generations and Forces when you getting S rank at the First try so this is pretty bad so Lost World and Frontiers ranking is way Better So Sonic Team do not change it stay like SLW and Frontiers ranking system OKAY??
Frontiers ranking System is super easy I didn’t get most s ranks first try. (Mainly cuz I was checking corners for collectibles a lot.) It’s still too easy but frontiers being hard is something I disagree with. (1-2 is the exception to the rule not the rule itself)
Ngl the sonic generations rewrite i personally did like but it did sound weird at first lol And shadow gens idk what to say other than its a masterpiece i love it to death Way better than i thought it would be
I really hate the rewrites to Sonic Generations, there was literally no need for a rewrite, IT’S SONIC GENERFUCKINGATIONS! No one wanted a rewrite, and I also hate the re-edits they did to the cutscenes too, no one wanted any of that, the rewrites and re-edits just take a story that was already boring and turned it from a boring and nothing story, to a boring and nothing story with a bunch of annoying references that the target demographic wouldn’t understand, and the veteran fans would hate But hey Shadow Generations was good though
5:59 also the shadow gens can be beaten in 7 hours if your dying alot and taking your time casually. But 100%ing it is far far longer... and another thing I forgot to meantion... sonics controls have been tightened up a bit. Shadows have been very slippery imo.
Shadow Generations was such a blast!!! I had so much fun with the levels, bosses and white space. I especially love how each stage correlates with Shadow's history (except Chaos Island). Especially having a Mephiles boss fight and I'm happy Shadow doesn't remember and his boss fight was really under White Space's main hub. Sad there is no dialogue of Black Doom having to remind Shadow of each level's events such as why the world is in shambles from Infinite but could be too much.
bro the voice direction in shadow gens to regular gens is so rough, like in the mephiles boss you can hear how desperate mephiles is , wanting to be real at all cost, but then you see in the regular gen roger has to sometimes speak in double speed because they didn't make the animation longer to fit the new script
11:40 While I agree 2D isn't my favourite, I still think that the 2D in this game is really good, and even beats out its Act 1 counterparts like in Sunset Heights. And obviously, its subjective to each person, but I wasn't expecting it to be of this quality! It surpasses Sonic 2D stages for me, and while it is slower, it sets itself away from 3D and uses that slowers speed well when incorporating how the level design works with the physics. It could just be me though 😅
2:16 a few things did get improved... new addition is drop dash... but classic and modern top speed has been increased. Also... the jump is higher and longer.
Hedgehog Engine 1 has issues with running above 60 fps this is one of those PS3 era remasters where it's a port with upscaled textures the selling point is Shadow Generations, if not for that it'd have probably been a 20$ port or "remaster" if there is an Unleashed remaster it'd probably be capped at 60 fps too
Technically when you put some the Sonic stages side by side in comparison, (Green Hill & Sky Sanctuary are probably the best examples) you can see the shadows are a bit sharper and make the areas a little darker, and the zone environment colors are bit more saturated. Seeing Classic's Green Hill in Base Gens & Shadow Gens makes the original look a little dull in comparison. As for the Rewrite, yeah... I got some whiplash from some scenes. The cutscene after the Death Egg Robot fight probably is the biggest case of the rewrite not working. But generally, with some the locational references and referencing items that were from previous games. If you have a key location in the world you live in, and you're randomly taken to that place from a completely different part of the world, and it looks different. You're gonna be confused about that. Like if someone did a complete repaint with an entirely different color pallete on your house. But changed nothing else. Or (IE: The time stones), if there's an item in your world that allows you to perform time travel, and suddenly out of nowhere you're performing time travel without that item. You're gonna question how it happened without having that item. Think of it like you're travelling across the ocean on a boat or an airplane to an island, and you meet someone who made it there without either of them. You're gonna be bewildered about how they got there without them.
I will say there is one story change that is good. Sonic not being clueless about time travel. As forced as the mention of the time stones is... Sonic has time travelled before. [Even if you don't count Mania; time travel was kinda Sonic CD's thing] He shouldn't be confused by the concept. Oh; and swapping Tails from not recognising Green Hill [because he wasn't in Sonic 1] to recognising it [since he's been in games with Green Hill after Sonic 1] Also I'd actually call the ARK the representative for Shadow the Hedgehog. There are a LOT of levels set on the ARK in that game, both interior and exterior [which you see both of]. Plus, if you say the Ark is strictly from SA2... Shadow's own game dosen't have representation in this game... the game which is literally a sequel to Shadow the Hedgehog.
I still don’t know why they didn’t add a stage from shadow the hedgehog in this game and because of the open zone hub world and levels sonic frontiers2 should take inspiration from shadow generations.
What I wanna know is why shadows own game got no representation... and why the final zone is radical highway? And how did black Doom return? And how can he manipulate reality?
I kinda feel like we should get a remaster of games like Heroes, Shadow 05 (even though they are from the RenderWare engine), and the Riders trilogy, because of how successful this remaster got. I'm sure games like the PSP Rivals duology, Adventure 1 & 2, & The All-Star Kart Racing 1 & 2, with all other Sega characters, should be emulated on PS5 with enhanced UHD graphics.
I was crying Laughing When Shadow did the grand Slam on Mephiles 😂🤣😂 He deserved that too. And shadow beat the fuck outta those doom monsters. I kinda felt bad for them. Homie was out for blood. That was brutal. ~ Gotta send the sega company some AIR FORCE ONES! Sonic Team Brought back the HEAT like knew they would after 2017
Like I've said, I bought this game on PS5, got the platinum trophy, then bought it on switch I was gonna wait but I haven't had this much fun with a sonic game since mania so I had to, I went out of my way to 100% both versions of both games already and Its been a good experience overall I only have problems with the og generations rewrite, that's it for that as for shadows portion I don't like he had no levels from his own game and it was too short overall 10/10 game can't wait for the dlc and next game hopefully it'll be like shadow gens
Just to make it clear, this was not Ian's fault for the rewrite. While he may be the writer of the game, SEGA and Sonic Team are the ones who decides on what they can put in the game now that they have a lore team.
hard disagree about the dialogue rewrites, i agree the voice direction is bad, but the original generations dialogue is what turned me off of sonic for ten years, after that and the colours dialogue, it felt like sonic wasnt for me anymore, i specifically remember sonic not really remembering green hill pissed me off so much, im actually really glad they changed it.
How do you unlcok hard mode? Do you need to 100% it? Also, no thoughts on content that didn't make it in, like Rival fights? Or why they went with Chaos Island?

Oh; and swapping Tails from not recognising Green Hill [because he wasn't in Sonic 1] to recognising it [since he's been in games with Green Hill after Sonic 1]
Also I'd actually call the ARK the representative for Shadow the Hedgehog. There are a LOT of levels set on the ARK in that game, both interior and exterior [which you see both of]. Plus, if you say the Ark is strictly from SA2... Shadow's own game dosen't have representation in this game... the game which is literally a sequel to Shadow the Hedgehog.
“Shadow look out!! That looks like a Homing Shot!”
I already Platinum'd Sonic X Shadow Generations in less than 2 days.
I still don’t know why they didn’t add a stage from shadow the hedgehog in this game and because of the open zone hub world and levels sonic frontiers2 should take inspiration from shadow generations.
What we are getting from Shadow is just amazing. This should lead into an HD remaster of Shadow or a completely new Shadow game.
In 2011 tails had a different voice actor then now and I think the old voice actor fit generations better and the new one sucks
This is probably the best Sonic(or Shadow) game ever made since the OG Gens back in 2011
What I wanna know is why shadows own game got no representation... and why the final zone is radical highway? And how did black Doom return? And how can he manipulate reality?
They should’ve added a shadow level instead of sunset heights but I still love that shadow got some love
Gotta send the sega company some AIR FORCE ONES!
Sonic Team Brought back the HEAT like knew they would after 2017
3:11 ad came up on this part😂😂😂
finally someone agrees with my opinion on the dialogue changes I don’t like it as well
Sonic x shadow generations fixed everything that was wrong with the original sonic generations
What i mean by that is taking off some of the unnecessary dialogues from the original 2011 version
I woke up like 2 whole ass hours earlier than usual to grind this heaven of a sonic game
This game is like sonic 2 meets sonic 3
Like I've said, I bought this game on PS5, got the platinum trophy, then bought it on switch I was gonna wait but I haven't had this much fun with a sonic game since mania so I had to, I went out of my way to 100% both versions of both games already and Its been a good experience overall I only have problems with the og generations rewrite, that's it for that as for shadows portion I don't like he had no levels from his own game and it was too short overall 10/10 game can't wait for the dlc and next game hopefully it'll be like shadow gens
Glad we finally got a new Sonic release with little to no controversy for once
Just to make it clear, this was not Ian's fault for the rewrite. While he may be the writer of the game, SEGA and Sonic Team are the ones who decides on what they can put in the game now that they have a lore team.
hard disagree about the dialogue rewrites, i agree the voice direction is bad, but the original generations dialogue is what turned me off of sonic for ten years, after that and the colours dialogue, it felt like sonic wasnt for me anymore, i specifically remember sonic not really remembering green hill pissed me off so much, im actually really glad they changed it.
Greatest Sonic remaster soo far 🔥🔥
This is definitely one of the best sonic games in history
This game is incredible honestly, I think peak Sonic is back this might be better than frontiers
Sonic generations + Shadows fury
I’m desperately trying not see spoilers (Shadows campaign) and get this for Christmas
I just got the platinum trophy for this masterpiece
How do you unlcok hard mode?
Do you need to 100% it?
Also, no thoughts on content that didn't make it in, like Rival fights? Or why they went with Chaos Island?
Hard mode is unlocked when you beat the game
@SFproductions1 I best the game, proceeded to do thr challenges, etc. So how do I access hard mode?
Also you're not bummed about any inclusions or lack thereof?
For sonic and shadow, Beat the final boss
@@TheBoneHeadClan eh, I was expecting the game to be shorter so nah not really.
You gotta activate the doom zone by hitting the weird eye thing in the hub world in front of space colony ark
@@YourMidTierLava Both games in order to get hard mode in Shadow? That doesn't make sense.
Bruh I think there is a connection whit shadow, remember that cutscene from shadow gens?
Btw that was so well done and cool like my blue blur!.
I've already speent 38 hours into this game (yea im kinda crazy) but this game is just phanomenal man...
Woah genuinely was not expecting you to hate the new writing I was shocked I think it’s just fine I mean at the end of the day it’s generations who really cares lmao
Legit way more successful then colors ultimate and origin’s
If You Say Sonic X Shadow Generations Is A Masterpiece, How Can You Instantly Turn That Back On Sonic Generations?
@@Super_Cinder.Inferno Sonic Generations is still a great game as a whole, I just don't really like the new story stuff that's all
I hope my dad actually gets me the game on pc instead of switch
It's pretty epic 70/10 (additional 69 points for the chao)
I HAVE EMOJIS?
These games are both at least 9 out of 10's by themselves. This is my favorite 3D Sonic ever. The OG Sonic Gens is one of my favorite games of all time period, so this is one of my fav games of all time, no doubt! 10/10 game, and 10/10 channel. Haven't finished the vid tho, obviously.
Now give me a silver spin off game
Yeah I really enjoy the game ! Shadow story , awesome. Just be glad just to play again on the console .
i liked the chaos island level but why was it there since shadow isnt in fronteirs
I'm not gonna watch this video cuz of spoilers but what i hope for is that they release a public demo
i loved every single second of the game
i hope they make more dlcs other than the sonic movie one
is the game the best sonic game ever made? probably
is it a masterpiece? no
I would call it a masterpiece if it took more than 4 hours to beat
Quality over quantity my friend
@@SFproductions1 agreed, but no matter how good a product is, if it takes one session to beat, there isn't actually much product. Sonic Team now just needs the budget and numbers to make a decently sized game, which I'm hoping we'll get with the suspected followup to frontiers.
Shadow generations dropped my jaw, yes, but when the credits started playing, I couldn't help but just think 'That's it?'
I love this game
Can you make a Sonic Boom Season 3 video 1st and 2nd can you make a video new Sonic fan game call Sonic Skyfall
“I can’t lie, I actually HATE it”
I’m on rail canyon now and the game is amazing
bro did we play the same 2d levels
My copy is still in transit 😣
15:47 splatoon 3?
