I noticed that this song actually borrows some melodic motifs from Only Hope, such as the lyrics ". . . can carry the weight of the world" mimicking the guitar melody in Only Hope's intro, minus one accidental. That's not to mention that the instruments used in this song are generally the same as in Only Hope. I'm sorry if I'm reading too much into the music theory aspect of this song; I'm in a composition unit for my orchestra class at the moment, so I've been becoming increasingly aware of chord progressions, motifs, and the like in the music I've been listening to.
We've all been waiting for things to turn around and be the same again. We all have this hope we have in Him and so we don't quit, we move forward even just a little everyday and see His hands leading us to a new beginning, a new morning.
Sometimes I stop my whining...crying...disappointment...and think..."poor God"...I wonder if He ever would like to just rest His head on someone's shoulder and cry too...at this mess...But no...He carries on...and we must too...He wanted "real sons"...Will we be them...for Him? (Another beautiful...beautiful...beautiful song from one of His most real ones...)
Funny....that ever since I read those books in my teens....(and most all of CSL's books since then)...that I realize how much of my understanding of Jesus Christ...came from those books...and Aslan....("He's not Safe...but He is Good...") Just as CS made you go beyond this world and what your eyes can see...and so, I think...understand more, the mystery and glory of God...so does Jon...in all his songs.

I have been concerned often by the music I have given myself to. I started a band called "Brothers of the King" and we wish to explore how to write music that explores scripturally solid music that is honoring to God. I challenge you Jon to rely on the words of the Lord. Psalm 119 is full of what you should do with music Jon. You tend to get mixed up in a lot of postmodernism and that is sin. You are called to sing the Words of the Lord. Your words are not good enough. You must use this gift of music to praise your Lord and run the race as if to get there first as Paul says in Corinthians. I have concerns about how much I have given myself to your music. I love it, but I want the words of the Lord. His world is like a fire and a hammer. It is far better than anyone's words. The lukewarm God rejects. He is jealous for our dependence on him. I am heartbroken to see Kensrue fall away from Biblical truth. His music for Mars Hill was great and I wish to model that in my song writing. Jon, don't do the same thing. Rely on the words of the Lord. That is far better than your own words or mine so I will write some of them down. Psalm 12 Help, Lord, for godly man ceases to be, for the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. They speak falsehood to one another; with flattering lips and with a double heart they speak. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks great things; who have said;" With our tongues we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?" Because of the devestation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise," says the Lord,"I will set him in the safety for which he longs." The words of the Lord are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined for seven times. You O Lord, will keep them; You will preserve him from this generation forever. The wicked strut about on every side when vileness is exalted among the sons of men." Your words make me nervous Jon. I trust in the words of the Lord.
What exactly is making you nervous about his music? This song in particular is a cry out to God asking for comfort and intervention. I don't see how this is unbiblical.
I see that you want to seek God in all you do from your comments, and that is good. I wonder, though- where do you think music, lyrics, images, etc., come from? When you talk to your friends, do you only use scripture, or do you tell stories, talk about great meals you have eaten, describe with annoyance how someone cut you off in traffic? The psalms are full of praise for God but they are also full of the struggles of this world. If David can write about dashing an enemies children upon the rocks in frustration, and we call it scripture, then surely a singer following God can sing beautiful lyrics and still please God. Or maybe Smokey Robinson can tell us about sunshine on a cloudy day, or Taylor Swift can tell us that someone is trouble, trouble, and the whole world is better for it. If you are called to make music with only scripture, fine, but please don’t put that burden on someone else who has poured himself out in an effort like this.
