Glad we have even more options for multitasking! The more choice, the better.
I love finding smart and innovative methods of creating a focused work environment and multi desktop setup for apple to release one software update and do everything for me
I would really appreciate the option to switch between the same window in an app using alt tab and not cmd + ~. This would be way more useful to me than stage manager
Still don’t understand it’s purpose, seems incredibly redundant considering we already have swipe up for multitasking and multiple desktop options… 🤔 feels very clunky when using, not slow, just too much fiddling around with open apps.
A theory is that they created it just to have a “Mac thing” on the iPad Pro with iPadOS 16
(It is a big answer so.. take your time :) sorry beforehand)
Example for me I use Sidecar and also the 4-finger swipe but, with finger swipe I can’t hold more than 5 apps same time or apps that can’t resize smaller, then stage manager comes to handy, I can have around 8+ apps open without a mess in same room, if I use the normal “swipe” then I’ve to move from my current window and other might goes to Background and can make them stop if are apps that should be on sight, also it’s easier for me to click y o switch between many of them than swipe 6 desk to reach the 7th. But when I don’t need them or to save power-performance I use the normal swipe :)
Also when use the normal swipe and also use “Tab” option to switch sometimes it mess the order of your swipe, Ex: you have page, safari,iMessage (between others) if you swipe, you interact with safari, but if you “cmd-tab” to iMessage from pages desk, then you will change the order to: Page,iMessage, Safari, so.. also it makes more messy when you have anything in full-window mode xD like videos it creates their own Temporal desk.. so more mess xD.
Sorry for the long example xD i do gaming on my Mac and to monitor my Mac (M1) performance, i use Activity monitor even twice of it open (you can do it with a cmd line on terminal) also I’ve the external game chat, safari (guides on YT) , Music app, Notes app, etc.. in total for 100% setup i use around 8+ apps open, swipe its just not enough xD, but if you use both “4Fng-swipe” + “Stage Manager” you can hold a bunch on apps without too much mess :) because with default display on Mac its hard to switch or see other apps if you go further than 5 at time open in same desk space. The 6th + app will be hide and can’t click it, only if you display all at time with 4-fingers up and then … well we go back to same issue xD a big mess hehehe. I don’t have a larger or ultra wide display to checkout if that helps but if you have one or a big TV you can try :).
Cya!
Exactly
In my opinion, this is more practical because you can click immediately in a stack of apps rather than swipe first to reveal them with Mission Control. Another thing is that in order to create a separate stack, with Stage Manager you just have to drag or minimize them, meanwhile with the "old" way you have to first create a new desktop which is very impractical.
I love it.
This is superb. I can switch between Applications quickly using Command-Tab and the Windows (in that App) using Command ~ (the tilde).
Plus I get to keep a uncluttered interface. Thank you Apple!
Love this. Groups my OBT , one big task together. So I can do multiple OBT’s a day.
To be honest I have no idea how to use this Stage Manager thing even after watching 4 videos on it! And I am an IT guy! It is just so not intuitive.
I just started using this feature TODAY - it's brilliant! changing metadata on video files while converting in the background has never been easier, thank you apple! 🙏🏼😊
I love this feature as it provides an alternative to the prohibited renaming of desktops. Now, each desktop functions as a distinct topic, fostering organized, hierarchical content management. However, a drawback is Stage Manager's deactivation of the window edge collision effect.
I want to love this on macOS but it isn’t working in the intuitive fashion I would expect Apple software to function. I hope Apple continues to develop this feature over time.
Thank you. I've been using Stage Manager for a while. I've been frustrated with it. I checked this two minute video and you solved my problems. Specifically, how to group apps into one window, and how to list out the windows open for a particular app. Concise. I'm gong to subscribe to your channel now.
Ever since I started using my Docks on the right side and Stage Manager on the left...it's quite similar. So I turned Stage Manager off. I think it's better on iPads but it's cool that we now have more options for multitasking. 😁
State manager combines windows to a "state", so it's not quite similar tbh.
Or you can have both, I have the task manager on the left side and the dock on the right.
I don't know how this happened but I've spent over a year doing things like adding space margins between my multiple windows to mimic exactly what stage manager solves here. I love this feature so much, took a few trials go get the hang but wow; everything feels even more organised now.
Even media keeps playing when I switch to a new tab, making it superb for some sort of PIP mode.. I just love this; thanks to the teams at Apple.
Love stage manager!!
Seems to work for some apps but not others. E.g.: Chrome, Evernote, Finder and Reminders don't play along with it. Or I'm not doing something right. But Spotify and Music do work. Really need this to work with all apps.
I needed to see this. This was helpful.
Also I still just use ShiftIt to be able to quickly move and tile windows on the screen. Have been using it for 10 years and it's the best.
great new feature, so intuitive
There needs to be more stacks as one you open more than five windows it becomes a mess. Also app centric notifications like Steam notifications are treated as windows and end up in a stack instead of functioning normally
LOVE IT. THANKS !
it's a good feature, wish there were more features like this in mac
For my simple domestic use I like it very much!
Amazing feature
Been using a mac for over 10 years now, not a big fan of Stage manager, but for some people maybe really good:)
Yeah it’s more or less over complicated hot corners to show all your apps and desktop
if you have big screen to work with i can say this MIGHT be useful. Im using macbook air m1 and so accustomed with the traditional way of swipping 4 fingers up and cmd+tab to multitask so Stage Manager is so not for me. Im glad apple gives option to switch it off
it is true. Absolutely not good for Notebook 13" and 14" . Good for a displays bigger than 16"
Thx for the tip! :D
Amazing, thanks a lot apple!
Much better on the iPad pro
I really like it ❤
I still use mac like the old times, even I don't use spaces
The feature is so cool.
I love Stage Manager!!!
overall a nice feature but when I hover over my mouse cursor to the far left side to perform some actions on my browser or any window, the stage manager stack pops up. that is a bit annoying.
portrait screen split option not available on ipad which can make two parts above and below
You can do the exact same thing with virtual desktops. You can also assign keyboard shortcuts to switch to a specific desktop, so you can quickly switch between desktops with a group of windows.
In the core this holds true. Yet trying this feature proves that this feels waaaay better to use. I thought the exact same thing at first but when I just tried it... well for an unexplainable reason it's just something different.
@@michaelpaynex but it's a bit awkward design wise, as this kind of could be implemented within the dock itself. It's kind of like having two docks in macos.
you can go blue in the face describing how linux has the same functionality but stage manager is a window manager not a virtual desktop manager :-)
with virtual desktop you forgot the windows easily
@@anunnakiiscomming9810 Virtual desktops are so much better. This is super awkward and takes a huge amount of screen real state.
why did you remove the keyboard backlight control from control center bring it back
Stage manager is very interesting. I don’t use it enough 😯
Interesting, gave it a quick go and immediately turned it off - I already use command-tab and command-` to do this without a slow-ish animation. BUT, that's not complaining; this'll be great for folks who are getting started, or don't like keyboard shortcuts, or want to have just one app up at a time.
Thanks for making it optional! Maybe you could add an option to turn off the dock, too, without relying on weird hacks. Haven't used it in a decade.
Would this helpful to project something on one window and we can work on other windows at the same time?
I just found this feature out today with this new update
This feature is so underrated. It's the hidden window manager from Apple and it can boost productivity a lot. Using spaces can be hindering when there are too many desktops. The full screen tiling is also fairly limited (2 apps max). The State Manager seems to be the best of both worlds and it places nicely with Rectangle to adjust windows on a grid. The grouping functionality makes the state manager very useful, you have a better overview of all your states by giving up some little screen estate. I came to the conclusion that I have max 4 apps per state, but sometimes only 1 or 2. I don't feel the need to clutter things, because I can peak their contents in the state manager overview. Unfortunately, the feature is still lacking a lot of useful settings and key bindings. I can't navigate between my states using the keyboard, I can't move the state overview to the right (unless I want the dock on the left, so the functionality is already there). Please give us more options to customize this feature and navigate it properly via keybindings.
Interesting. I don't see any use case for this but some people might find it useful
Same here
Nice!
Seems a lot like multiple Desktops which I use everyday while working.
I'm a software developer and stage manager is great for allowing me to have a clean screen with just my coding window on it. Removing all other "things" is so focusing. It's like a zen moment.
do the macbook pro with touchbar have this feature? i couldn't find it
awesome!
How is this better than virtual desktops, as I've used in my job for the last 6 years? Cmd+Tab to switch applications, and Mac OS switches to the appropriate virtual desktop automatically. Does stage manager offer anything over and above this?
I think stage manager still needs optimization from Apple because sometimes the motion fluidity of switching between app stacks is not so smooth with creative softwares like Adobe and blender in my use case.
it is the same when you try to resize the windows
I agree sometimes it jitters. Especially when you have your screen on 120 hertz
@@Davesaintgold Yeah, even with stage manager off. Is it just me or mac os has gotten slower with each updates since big sur. My M1 MBP can feel like a midrange android phone when it comes to animation smoothness these days.

I have the same issue. All apps are up to date, but the app switching animation is choppy (only happens with Adobe CC). I have 4K Dell at 60hz. This really needs fixing.
Can anybody explain to me in detail how to set this up? I have a 2017 macbook air and don't seem to have this feature
It’s good but it’s would be better to activate it by key shortcut or gesture
This idea was genius!
You’re telling me. I can’t wait to get my hands on that thing! 🤩
This is helpful if you're only using the mac's monitor! 😄
Awesome
Keep in mind that if you have multiple displays (I have a Mac Mini with two displays) you need to enable “Displays have separate Spaces” in settings. Stage Manager is not in the Control Center nor will it display in the menubar if you do not do this. In Ventura, it is: System Settings - Desktop & Dock - Mission Control. Enable the separate spaces option. You have to log out/in for it to work. Was frustrating for me after I upgraded because I could not even find this feature to use it. Hope this helps others.
Apps can be assigned to a specific space, so they always open in that space. Spaces are additional desktops that can be accessed in Mission Control.

anyone knows how to change between windows of the same app with the keyboard? (like alt + tab in windows) because when i use command + tab it changes between apps but i cant find a way to change between windows of the same app and its really frustrating (for example multiple word files or multiple e-mails)
thanks.
nice
Now, if I click an app icon to reach a preview of the open windows, the apps are all grouped. I can't select one of them to bring it to the center.
first i didnt like it but after a few days i love it
Would be cool to close the stacks without opening them..just swiping left.
This is a very useful feature. Nice integration apple 🍎
My mac is almost always in clamshell mode hooked to a widescreen monitor, and I keep the dock and top menu bar hidden for maximum screen space, so I might actually find stage manager somewhat useful because it's the closest thing apple fanboys will get to tabbed window stacks which should've already been implemented years ago. The only issue for me is that I like to keep my hands on the keyboard and off the mouse since it's so slow to move my hand back and forth, and sadly it doesn't look like there's any way to use stage manager with just the keyboard. And besides, I'm using a 2015 MBP which Apple for some reason has end-of-lifed even though it's still a great snappy laptop even by today's standards.
I miss the keybindings as well.
Super
wish there was a way to have stage manager on one display and not the other
I haven’t found this function much useful
After a month using it, I found it useless and even hard if I need to open 2 windows, for example to read and the other one to type.
I have a problem with a screen saver from macOS Big Sur. I hoped that Apple will fix it on macOS Monterey, but it still exists on macOS Ventura. I can’t set up my whole photo library as screen saver, when I set up this parameter (I mean whole photo library), I see a black screen. Screen Saver works with separate albums and folder “favorites”, only in these 2 cases, screen saver with photos works.
Hello there. Since your Mac display appears black when using your whole library as your screen saver, the guidance in this article may help to get it sorted: s.apple.com/DH2B4p6gN8

Please bring back Dashboard
For no rhyme or reason, the feature of stage manager where you click on a single stack of multiple windows doesn't work sometimes. I click on it and it briefly shows the small windows that that stack consists of then closes.
Nevermind, i figured it out. It's an issue with 'Metas" sloppy messenger app. It causes stage manager to malfunction but when closed, the feature acts normal.
why not use all apps in full screen?
how do I ungroup them?
How to remove app window from a group? For example, I paired a PD file opened in Preview with Safari but now it's in same group as Safari. How do I remove it from Safari group and put it back in other Preview files?

I enjoy the grouping ability. Other than that the rest is utterly useless. I find multiple desktops to be far more efficient. Also not being able to stick apps quickly to sides or resize to fit multiple apps within screen is a shame.
0:44 I can't switch between windows in same app by stage manager. becasue after i clicked any app. it disappeared from stage manage. Help!!
Why can't you just fix command tab so that it would allow to cycle through open windows of running apps instead of over engineering things?
For christs sake, I've been using mac for every day work for 7 years now and still can't cycle through browser windows efficiently....
looks like a nice feature. but it is a bit confusing when you click some of the apps it does not enter stage manager, like Safari. why is it not universal?

So an extra window cannot be added to the existing window and made a pair from the dock ? It has to be added only from the open window on the left in the Stage Manager ?

Better start adding MacOS features to M1 iPads, than vice versa.
I dont like the stage Manager. Ich brauche etwas, was wie bei Windows funktioniert.
I need something that works like Windows. Preview apps when switching between them. Preview in the taskbar would also be very helpful.
let's say I have tow windows in one group in stage manager, How to separate them into tow different groups, where every group has only one window of them?
Hey there! We’d like to work on answering this question for you so you can use Stage Manager successfully on your Mac.
When you say you want to separate the two windows in your group, are you talking about two windows that are in the app set? If so, you will not be able to store the windows individually. The open windows in that app will always show as one group.
However, if you’ve added windows from two different apps to one app set, and now want to separate them, you can do that by dragging one of the open windows in the set to the thumbnails on the side. This may help as well: s.apple.com/dw4n6o4Ec5
If you have any other questions, please out to Apple Support here: apple.co/GetSupport
Drag and drop is slow compared to windows drag and drop. If apple get rid of the drag blink animation it will make it fast.
When I click anywhere on the desktop, stage manager will not get out of the way. Is this a configuration thing?
Stage Manager will always appear along the side of the screen, even when viewing desktop.

hi, is there a way to open multiple window of the same app? I use Preview for viewing and managing PDF files all the time and I have multiple PDF file open and can drag & drop pages in one PDF file to another. It seemed that if I have 2 PDF files open, if I click on one, the other will close or hide, only one document open. I cannot drag and drop between files.
Same goes for browser, I have multiple windows of browser open all the time. Seem that every time I click on one browser the other hides off.

yo, as a windows user, this seems a joke (click outside the window activates the desktop mode, I have to click in the stack to switch between opened windows) idk, why not like windows or linux?
Why is stage manger turned off on 13.3.1? I can't turn it on.
If you don’t see Stage Manager in Control Center, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar, then scroll down on the right and make sure that “Displays have separate Spaces” is turned on. You should now see Stage Manager in Control Center.
