I'm learning this on my cigar box guitar that I found in a music store. It was way cheaper than any bariton ukulele and also way cheaper than a usual steel string guitar. But it looks nice and has a nice sound. Perfect for my purpose. :)
Beautiful song and beautifully explained. Relatively easy in the scheme of things but so rich. Thank you. How is it that you always manage to choose such gorgeous songs? Obviously you are a man of great taste as well as a great teacher. I remember seeing the film in my youth, in the days when they would show such films on one of the three networks. In the film the man, the woman’s husband, becomes obsessed with learning bossa nova guitar and he becomes quite good and plays often for his wife. I won’t give away the plot but since this film directed me to the beauty of bossa nova let me just say that years later it was with great pleasure that I learned to play some of those great bossa nova songs by buying Glen’s bossa nova book and lessons. It all comes around full circle and now the beautiful theme from that film that started my love of bossa nova. Thank you!
Thank you Kim. Glad you like the lesson and the song. I used to play this song a lot when I was playing piano in nightclubs. Always a beautiful moment in the evening and a crowd-pleaser. I chose it for ukulele because I could put it in a key where most of the jazz chords would be in open positions. I like to find standards that are easy to play for the average player, This means using open positions as much as possible. It's a bit of a challenge. Most of our jazz chords are made with bar chords, as I teach in the Jazzy Ukulele Workbooks.
Lovely chords!! I will probably sing this melody. Have a wonderful July 4th Birthday!! Over here in the UK this is the day we are allowed to return to the restaurants and pubs . . . so Independence day both sides of the ocean!!
Glen is the full score for this beautiful chord melody arrangement available in tab form ie does it appear in one of your books or is it available for purchase. Stephanie
