Hey Tony I was actually scared sparring with my friend he's taller and bigger so yeah during the jabing and the clashes I was in the disadvantage but one of your videos taught me how to dodge punches like jabs and crosses I slip one of those jabs. Then threw a bolo punch in the stomach I was scared that my friend suddenly kneeled down he was in pain and he said that our sparring may not continue.I apologize and said I was only counter strategizing you. Your actually right in boxing no need for flashy combos just need to throw the basic it'll work thanks mate
I needed this. One of my regular sparring partners is 6’4 and I’m 5’8. I hate sparring him. It’s a complete mismatch but weight wise I’m one of the few that can spar with him. It’s so frustrating cause I have to do twice as much work as he does just trying to hit him
I am short..5 foot 4 inches and never considered it a disadvantage. Against taller fighters, its only if they have a longer reach than yours. Some are tall but their reach is not longer. Also for boxing just look at Mike Tyson for a lesson on how to fight larger opponents. He throws his punches as he is moving in at a speed faster than his opponent is backing up. For Kick Boxing look at Iron Mike Zambidas and how he destroyed taller fighters despite being significantly shorter in height. I have more difficulty fighting opponents my own size...LOL.
@@Tony_Jeffries yes i have but only with my coach he’s built very tall and big. I mostly use boxing as a tool for my anxiety and for fun i don’t box professionally but i really do enjoy watching and learning! I watch all your videos 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I’m ALWAYS the shorter man. I am 5’6 and feasibly could cut to 140-147, I walk around at about 170lbs because I have extremely broad shoulders and back.. I am built like Canelo, Cotto or Juan Urango. I have to use every trick in the book to remain in punching range without getting pelted from long range.. Great video
I was scared to fight taller opponents as my styles is using the jab to keep distance but I probably also just need to get used to it. I’m 6’1, 6’2 in shoes so most guys who are taller are like 2 inches usually at most as seeing a legit 6’4 dude or taller isn’t very common especially being 201 to 178 heavyweight. But I’ve sparred guys 5’6 before and the more I think about it the advantage of being short can be a bit unfair for me as there low to the ground and then they crouch too most of the time so i literally can’t hit them.
I have a similar problem because my natural tendency is to walk my man down. The problem is that I'm in their range more often than they are in mind. So here's a thought: if you don't want to engage, stay away. Don't run, but only come in if you really want to do something. Other than that, stay outside, use a longer guard and feint as if you wanted to come in, but don't.

I've definitely benefitted from watching and applying knowledge I've gotten from your videos (Heavy bag boxing drills. Changing angles. Impossibke combos that work, etc...). This video is no different. I'm 5 8" so tips to get inside are appreciated.
1. fare finte 2. tirare una serie di 2/3 jab 3. avvicinarsi 4. mento basso e mani alte 5. stare in continuo movimento 6. mira al corpo per prendere la testa
Hey Tony, you've had a successful career, built a beautiful family that looks happy and healthy, and allows you to share what you love with grateful students all over the world. I wish you continued blessings.
2-4 jabs while getting inside fast // corner him, cut him off, and keep him there Crouch / squat low Always be moving - head, hands, feet. Feint all the time.
I hated my weight initially in my teens to early 20s since in my experience at that time, I had to deal with taller guys when I got set up on my weight class. Thank you for this video Tony!
Just had my first sparring session and it was against a taller guy. The fact that the first thing I did after was come to this video should tell you how it went.
@@Tony_Jeffries Wow, I didn’t expect you to reply but it’s great to communicate with you I watch you everyday. I’m 10 years old and you’ve help me so much in boxing and getting fit
Way I would think is to keep coming in and out Range with shuffles and pivots if needed keep head movement with combos involving to the body and head along with keeping the guard up
I've found a lot of videos on how to beat taller guys, but can you also show how to beat shorter guys? I've experienced problems with aggressive opponents who come very close and punch very quick
I'm only 5'2 and these videos are super helpful, because I intend to fight professionally some day, and I just got whipped by a big tall dude during sparring so hopefully this video will help
I've been sparring with a friend once a week, he's taller. Every mistake you mention is what i do 😅😂 But it makes it super clear kn what I need to work on. Thank you
The first guy I sparred was taller than me and had a much better reach, I could barely touch him. Next guy I sparred was shorter than me and I was able to touch him so easy. We’re all around the same weight, crazy how much of a difference height made though.
I am not tall, and in all the gym where i was, many were taller than me. But i am like an ape, long arms, so many times , i got the reach advantage, also against taller guys. 🦍🥊
Love videos man! You are awesome and knowledgeable! I did notice I Brought you brought feet together when you went inside, ! Why don’t people switch stance like mike when going in?
If you want to look at an amazing fight between a small and tall opponent, look at Juan Manuel Marquez vs Derrick Gainer. Marquez creates distance by stepping back and parrying Gainers attacks, which makes him overreach, opening him up to be countered. Imma try and use this next time.
Great video, what about fighting a much taller, much heavier opponent? One of our drills is shoulder sparing and I’m often paired against a 6’3” 115kg opponent. I’m 5’10” and 86kg. We are similar skill level, but I’m older although don’t tire as quick. I’m constantly getting hit with the overhand right to my left arm.
Tony, I've been watching you for a long time but I understand very little from your videos. What is requested from you is to add Turkish subtitles or audio tracks to your videos, thank you.
this is assuming the opponent will step back when I try to come in or jab to keep the range. But what if I have a tall opponent who also wants to close the range and rushes at me?
lions mane is good yes but its addictive kinda. because once you start eating it once you stop youll get tired even more then before you startred having it so who ever decides to eat it or drink it in coffee BE SURE TO KNOW THIS
@gripreaper514 coach broke it off, we were both in the ring waiting for the bell, he has 2 years experience, I have 4 months, coach didn't think it was a match up especially with the reach advantage, I sparred someone else with the same time I have in the gym. We will eventually spar but probably not till February as were both out now for injuries and various reasons, well get to it eventually and I'll upload the match on my page, ill keep ya posted
I’m doing a white collar boxing near year I’m quite tall just short of 6 foot but I think these skills are good for any type of size boxer. Being smart is the way to being a better boxer
