As someone who was a part of the creepypasta subculture, this story is chilling. Like, my friends used to go looking for Slenderman but never did we consider ever hurting anyone over it. It’s awful.
This story is astounding to me. Payton is such a strong little girl, I'm so happy she's survived and I hope her and her family are recovering from such a traumatic event. This also shoes how letting children have free reign over the internet is never a clever idea... I feel like most parents have no clue how many dangerous things their children can consume so easily.
I was born and still live in waukesha, my brother is best friends with Payton…… there’s so much more than Bailey discusses that I can’t disclose because my brother trusted me with. (More regarding the way she’s treated these days)
it is all about love.. raising your kids as human beings and not appendix of ourselves, with their own individuality and never having them lack that love and affection so that they go seeking it elsewhere, whatever be bad influences or the internet... yesterday my son came to me with a weird engineering looking drawing, asking if I knew about infinite geometric planes... a documentary he watched on youtube.. he is 10.. i dont even know what that was lol weird example to show how a well loved and integrated kid will use the internet what is meant to be: a tool not a substitute
Yesss! If anything....ANYTHING...put on proper parental blocks! I understand every family situation is different with some having parents work late or all day...or they're a stay at home parent and may need a break from the kiddos and give them time on the internet. BUT, if some kind of parental block was on...it could (would in my opinion) help with kids seeing videos and stories that they just aren't ready for! (Hope that makes sense).
Your right those who are out to harm us are after our kids, harder than they ever have been. I hope your watching what's going on at your childrens schools. Be well.
I love seeing Bailey dressed as a bee since she explained how she became obsessed with them after watching a documentary. I feel like she’s buzzing around the house super excited 😊
I was a year or two younger than the girls and lived in a town near them. Everyone knew about the story, and a couple of people knew the girls. We had a huge school assembly about the internet and how you can’t believe a lot of things on the internet. It’s such a odd part of my childhood. It’s crazy that this entire thing happened, and I’m glad Payton survived.
i'm gonna be honest here: i read a lot of creepypastas and horror stories back in the day (teen), i never friggin KILLED someone. it might not be the internets fault it might be.... Parents AND HEALTHCARE???
The thing I like about you Bailey, you being a comedic relief to true crime. Like your videos don’t make me feel super sad after I’m done. I just feel informed and a little lighter from laughing. Keep it up!
Can someone refer me to the Away Tofana incident? I have watched a lot of Bailey's videos, but I am yet to come across it. And I think you don't fully join the cult unless you know about it XD
Actually I don't think so she didn't seem guilty whatsoever during the court trials and kept on defending Morgan saying that"they did not deserve to stay in prison for something she did when she was 12"
@@sayanamathew9966 personally, I think, kids should go to jail even if they are kids. Kids are smart and they know what they're doing. Their actions still have consequences
as someone who LOVED marble hornets and other web horror like it, this story always horrified me. im not gonna blame the parents or anything but kids need to have their internet habits monitored and taught the difference between fiction and reality.
As a parent to a young girl and her two best friends at that time period, Slender man scared me a little…maybe because I did not understand what it was and because the girls half way believed in it!
@@tammylynne5702 i should have worded it differently, im not going to *fully* blame the parents. they should have absolutely been on top of things. but i do believe the girls are at fault too (the girls who committed the crime, not the victim.) sorry, should have made that more clear in my original comment
21:20 : I love how Bailey is picking apart the mythology of slender man. I know they were kids, but there are too many plot holes for this to be believable!
@@bm8826 hahah!! Baileys style of story telling is so addictive! Being able to talk about serious important topics and stories but being able to make it enjoyable and less dark without degrading it, if that makes sense. Ugh just love her! ❤️
It’s 9pm I was watching this and soon after Bailey did her “I’m a bee” I felt something crawling on my leg…..idk how somehow trapped in my room all day, was a bee. I let it free but I’m convinced Bailey made an appearance ☺️ I’m surprised it was so calm
Stories like these make me terrified to let my daughter go to a sleepover. I can’t imagine what Peyton’s parents felt in that situation. Side note - totally cracked up at Bailey pretending to text that kid back hahaha
Tbh I was always so mad at my parents when I was a kid wanting to be on sleepovers. But now that I'm 25, I realized that they really did save me from possible nightmares like these - and p3dophes let's not forget. I think it's best to communicate with your child what is the reason why you won't let her go to sleepovers, rather than my dad shouting "because I said no" lol
I’ve already explained to my kiddos that their friends are welcome to spend the night here, but they will not be sleeping over at anyone’s house. I had a few horrible sleepover experiences, plus I just don’t trust others to protect the most precious people in my life.
Don’t unless you’re hosting and will treat any child in your home like your own *not at all insinuating that you wouldn’t I am a parent too and would never let my Son attend a sleepover unless I’m hosting.
@@kimberlyrichardson5943 my oldest son passed away three months before his 4th birthday. The pain is indescribable, but I try my hardest not to let fear cloud my judgement when it comes to making decisions for my other three children. I was against my kids attending sleepovers even before I lost my son because of the things I experienced. We’re not being overprotective or “sheltering” our children, we’re making rational decisions based on the reality that horrible people exist and do horrible things to children.
My oldest is 9 and is honest about what he does and watches. Even if it's bad. Because I don't yell at him or punish for it. I sit with him and explain why it's not okay. He understands. Even if he disagrees, he usually listens. There have only been a handful of times where he did it again but we had another talk and I gave him the ultimatum of listening and doing what's right or getting in trouble. I let him make the choice to do the right thing. It gives him a sense of control over his life and it's a game changer.
@MommaBear4143 I have 3 kids. I was 20 years old when we had our oldest, 24 years old when we had our middle, and 37 years old when we had our youngest and I say all that to say this, I definitely changed as a parent as my age changed. I seemed to speak at my oldest, rather than speaking with her. I got better as I had more children.🤷♀️ my youngest is like your son(he’s 6 years old) and he is very honest and open with me as well. I’m very close to my older 2 now as well, but I can see how differently I parented each of them. Sometimes I feel soooo guilty but my older 2 always reassure me that I did my best but I was young and did was I was taught at the time.❤😢😊💖💙💙
I watched a documentary that said that Morgan was never the social type and she had literally no friends until Payton decided to be her friend even though her parents told her not to be.
It´s almost sad for the creator of the character that something he thought it will be amazing, could turn in such a twisted way. Welcome everybody to the internet.. hope the victims and their families are doing okay.
This is why it's important to teach kids how to distinguish what's real from what's fake. Like what someone else said, internet literacy is important, because kids nowadays grow up online. I believe these events could have been prevented if the parents managed what media their kids were consuming. I think creepypastas are pretty interesting, but it's because of these things that they get a bad rep.
This is people definitely should not trust online platforms to know what to show their kid. Learning how the internet works and how to stay safe is so important. Don't leave it to the schools either. I have a feeling they're still showing stuff I had growing up (I'm only 21) watch your kids, the internet is dangerous, but can be super fun and rewarding for children
@@hillarybillary21 They didn’t, I have seen kids who believe that Slenderman and Momo are real because they are given so much free access to UA-cam and Tiktok which is full of predatory content meant to scare children or trick them into spending their parents money
My son (22 now), was literally OBSESSED with Slenderman. His bedroom walls were covered in weird Slenderman art work, and I mean covered! He talked about it constantly. Honestly, I was becoming very concerned about it. As an adult he thinks it was so obviously fake, but he wouldn't have it at the time, he was convinced. Luckily, no harm done, he grew up and now thinks it is as ridiculous as I thought then. But honestly at the time I was really worried. Just shows how impressionable our kids are at that age.
This is exactly why I say to my kids eveeytime we watch TV or a video or they get on UA-cam and it's some stuff like slenderman or even a character dying. I remind them its NOT real. And that most of their UA-cam videos are just adults acting scared and faking these things to go viral on UA-cam. Plus my sons autistic so he doesn't always grasp when someone isn't serious. Or if somethings a joke or seems really fake and put on
Oh my goodness!! I never would’ve thought my parents would be concerned over my interests as a teen, so I’m glad your son wasn’t as impressionable. I’m 24 and I use to love Slenderman too, and other horror media and urban legends as a lil teenager. However when I first got introduced to these online stories, the first one I read in 2010 (I was in middle school and it was about a haunted video game) I thought it was real. I was so scared. If anything I was more scared of the “monsters” rather than wanting to k*ll for them. I had to sleep with my mom one night I was so scared haha. We luckily had a talk and she said maybe don’t read these and wait until I’m a bit older. But still!! It really is important to include your parents with your likes and hobbies. I was lucky since my mom was a classic horror fan and we got to enjoy some of these stories together when I got to be an older teen, but once we found out about this incident, I kinda fell out of being invested in these “creepy pastas.” I still enjoy them from time to time and I think horror is a great genre to tell fun stories, but at the end of the day, they’re just that. Fun made up stories.
Hey Bailey, I understand that you are probably getting a lot of messages about Gabby, but could you do a story on the Native women of Utah (the whole USA to be honest) as many go missing every year and nowhere near the amount of energy is put into finding them. Thank you!
I remember this story when it went viral. Back then I was really into the creepypasta. I was very shocked that someone so into Slenderman would do something like that. It was crazy. I'm so glad that she is still alive and doing well.
This story is exactly why parents should talk to their kids about the kinds of content they'll find on the internet. There are kids who are too dumb, young, or impressionable to understand that not everything they read isn't real, especially when they're still not old enough to fully separate fiction from reality. Parents shouldn't be hounding their kids about their activities online or violating their privacy, but the conversation should be real and present so those kids can't access stories like Slenderman and get ideas.
@@creepy-kitty yes, Bailey is kinda slacking here. I believe Anissa was twisted and she manipulated actually ill and schizophrenic Morgan into this. Dont get me wrong, morgan is also an evil little demon but she is way more disconnected from reality. Both are sick tho and shouldn’t be released just like that. Imagine how Payton feels knowing that one of these wackos freely roaming the streets. Awful.
This is why I'm a massive advocate for parents even just pretending to be interested in what their kids like. My dad could not have given two craps about my anime obsession, but he listened to me cry over character deaths and rants about how much I hated certain things. He knew what I liked and had a decent understanding of what it was so he was aware of what media I was consuming. Kids like talking and will go off about anything if you lend an ear
Bailey: "Should I start a Booktube?" Me: "Well, sure! As long as you realize how many indie authors would send you their books hoping you'll do a review.... may need a bigger PO Box..." Lol
As a mom of the kindest sweetest little person, these stories literally terrify me. I don't ever see him doing harm to anyone but it really scares me that someone would hurt him.
Yo! I _just_ saw EXPLORE WITH US’ 2 hour video on the interrogation of Morgan and Anissa! This is one of the crazies, saddest true crime incidents I’ve EVER hear about… But I am super excited to see Bailey’s interpretation and thoughts on this case.
*Morgan's mom:* "It's her 12th birthday... I doubt she'll get in any trouble... It's not like my kid is a psychopath... hahaha-ahhh (nervous laughing)"
When Bailey said that she was skipping the month of September, I immediately have the Greenday’s song “wake me up when september ends” playing in my head 🤪
This happened 10 minutes from my house and I remember when the story first broke, everyone went batshit. It was insane, no one could believe something like that could happen, especially between kids. I was in middle school at the time and I remember a bunch of grown ups, my parents included, giving “reality verses fiction” and general morality lectures.
Love the bee costume!! My daughter and her friends got into slenderman around the same age (she’s 17 now). Luckily, the all realized that it was like Pennywise or the krampus and just a madeup story. I think in some ways kids are less gullible but also more vulnerable due to the internet. I had a student who would borrow other kids’ phones to go on hot or not and make dates with older men. It was crazy. I think my daugher must have heard me talk about these stories because she just this year got into social media. She has 4 followers on IG and tells people she’s reached her limit. Lol. Anyway, great video!! Happy holidays!
I watched the interrogation on the EWU Crew channel and Morgan and Anissa are truly frightening. Anissa totally played the interrogator and Morgan was just in this....fantasy world and was totally emotionless.
Yeah I’m more worried about Anissa than Morgan. I honestly think her sentence should have been bigger… Morgan’s sentence was crazy long for a 12year old.
Always pay attention to your kids, guys! When i was younger i told myself "i'm going to be a cool chill parent" and mind you i don't have children yet, but now with everything going on and how bad this world is, i don't think so!😕
As a mom, I can say you need to communicate with your kids and be a safe person for them. My kids still tell me everything to this day at the ages of 24 and 26. One is bi and married and the other straight and common law and still they trust me as a safe person. My advice to new parents reading this: support your kids and actually listen to what they tell you. Accept who they are and help guide their development in a positive way. Always love them and let them know how important they are to you. But don’t put up with any bs! 😂
I totally understand this. My brother who's 30 yrs old and me who's 24 still tell our mom about how our lives are going even tho we've moved out and have diff lives now. 😄 Both of my parents check on us at least once a or twice a week. Just normal chitchat. And growing up I think it's bec they always ask us at dinner how our days went, who our crushes were 😁 They always made us feel like we can tell them anything and they never made fun of us or embarrass us to other people. There are occasional lecturing ofc but even so they have maintained a healthy communication ❣
I totally agree! My 34yr old son still tells me everything. I was a single mum and he's my best friend he's in a common law relationship with a 7yr old son who's birthday was today.
Bailey you should do like a “book club” live stream every now and then. Like announce whatever book you’re reading at the beginning of the month and then a few weeks later do a live stream where everyone else who read it can talk about it and interact with you!
I'm glad I found this channel. No' too much into the makeup(looks amazing on our girl hear though)but even 47 year old guys like a bedtime story. Find Bailey the best on that front. Love from Scotland.
When my daughter was a kid in the 90’s, we had one computer in the living room that we all shared. It was visible all the time. Later on in high school she had a laptop so she had more privacy. Back then you really had to go looking to get into trouble. I don’t know what parents do now. The internet is a great babysitter, just like the tv was. Parents now are trying to make a living any way they can and no one is paying much attention to the kids.
It can be so hard to figure out how they process what they see. What they hear from other people. No matter how much my parents told me movies are pretend, the images and ideas from The Exorcist, Poltergeist and Evil Dead stayed with me and freaked me out. I couldn't then and can't now verbalize my thoughts, feelings or anxieties about them. Even when my parents would ask.
My parents often put locks on certain websites, and they eventually started turning the internet off at about 1am. Unless I was up late doing school work. I was also a pretty open kid, I would show my mum whatever website I was on. She'd help me set up accounts and whatnot.
I had a similar experience as a 90s kid with a central PC, though I didn't have a laptop until college. That's probably a huge difference today. Laptops are more common at younger ages now.
I had 2 friends in Jr High who were obsessed with Slenderman and Creepypasta to the point they started making up stories about how they MET him and hung out with him. They genuinely tried to get everyone to believe it was all real. I stopped talking to them the minute one of them messaged me at 2 am and made me have a "conversation" with Slenderman.
Honestly, my husband and I just decided to let our kids grow up with the internet. They are only allowed to watch UA-cam videos with the sound on if we’re in the room. They’ve stumbled upon things they shouldn’t have, but they did that in an environment where we’re there to talk about it with them and help them to understand why it’s fake/real/kind/unkind. Whatever is out on the internet will find your kids eventually. Time is better spent teaching your kids how to think critically of what they see on there than shielding them from it.
I used to be a huge creepypasta fan back in 2012-ish. I remember reading about people performing RITUALS to "summon" creepypasta characters. I was like "???" I have no words
As someone who was a preteen when slender man blew up, I can attest to it feeling very real, and being genuinely afraid of the woods behind my house because of it. We had no idea if it was true or not, but there were so many videos about it on the Internet, it seemed like it could be. It is still one of those stories that sits in the back of my head when I’m alone in the dark, The image of him is just super unsettling to me
Wow! Really? Why would you believe something like that? It makes zero sense. I know you were a pre-teen, but I was a pre-teen a long time ago too and never would I believe nonsense like this. Granted, I also wasn't on the Twitter, Instagram or Facebook either... Still Not either as it's really just a breeding ground for hate and people who like to let their inner mean girl out. It's ashame what's happened to what should be a useful tool.
I was a pre-teen too! And even though I never believed in him or any of the awful stories or videos on the internet about him or the other creepypastas, I still got scared anyway- I was severely sheltered in a HEAVY Pentecostal household, didn’t even own a phone- so I wasn’t used to being exposed to “spooky” stuff, so I’d always get scared of going out in the woods just because of all the bad thoughts these stories stirred up. Still never believed in him, I knew he wasn’t real obviously, but it still scared me and made me really anxious when I was out alone or when it was dark. 🤷♀️ nowadays I watch paranormal stuff all the time and true crime every night, and I’ve become so desensitized that nothing even remotely bothers me.
@@roxannelilymaria2581 Pre-teens are still capable of thinking. I'm sorry but slender man? If she believed in vampires and fairies that would also be reasonable to you, I guess because she was a pre-teen? It's a symptom of some of what's wrong with the world. We need to stop coddling them and handing out participation trophy's like they're 🍬.

it is all about love.. raising your kids as human beings and not appendix of ourselves, with their own individuality and never having them lack that love and affection so that they go seeking it elsewhere, whatever be bad influences or the internet... yesterday my son came to me with a weird engineering looking drawing, asking if I knew about infinite geometric planes... a documentary he watched on youtube.. he is 10.. i dont even know what that was lol weird example to show how a well loved and integrated kid will use the internet what is meant to be: a tool not a substitute

The girls actually heard about Slenderman on Creepypastas show...Jeff??? Their interrogation is wild.

as someone who LOVED marble hornets and other web horror like it, this story always horrified me. im not gonna blame the parents or anything but kids need to have their internet habits monitored and taught the difference between fiction and reality.
Why? Because they shouldn't be held accountable for their actions?? This IS the parents fault!
As a parent to a young girl and her two best friends at that time period, Slender man scared me a little…maybe because I did not understand what it was and because the girls half way believed in it!

Amen! I have a daughter as well & stories like these freak me out.
We’re not being overprotective or “sheltering” our children, we’re making rational decisions based on the reality that horrible people exist and do horrible things to children.
Wow seeing children's mugshots really hits differently... Gives me the chills 😬

Oh please, they knew.

You ain't just a bee, Bailey. You the Queen Bee! 👑🐝

They weren't impressionable just cold dark killers who wanted to get rid of a kid and use this as a scape goat.😒

I watch what my kids do/watch on the internet, if I don't like what they are watching I tell them to turn it off and they're not allowed to watch it
My parents often put locks on certain websites, and they eventually started turning the internet off at about 1am.

Our parenting style as well. We are just aware what the watch. Our kids come to us with questions and thoughts, since we are so open.
This is the approach I wish my parents took with me growing up. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity👏🏻

As someone who was a preteen when slender man blew up, I can attest to it feeling very real, and being genuinely afraid of the woods behind my house because of it. We had no idea if it was true or not, but there were so many videos about it on the Internet, it seemed like it could be.
