    Hi friends!
    In this episode of The Paint Show we'll be looking at Green Apatite Genuine, by Daniel Smith.
    This paint is a part of their Primatek series, which is characterized by natural paints. These are paints that are made of natural rocks and minerals, and their components aren't synthetically mimicked in labs.
    This leads to plenty of differences from their other paints.
    In fact, there isn't a lot of information out there about this series in particular. There's a great resource I use for these instances, called HandPrint.
    Check out this article:
    www.handprint....
    This paint has strong tinting and beautiful granulations (it separates into brown dots and bright greens, which look fantastic).
    It's the first Primatek paint I try, and so I can't really compare it to others.
    I will mention that I can totally see this one working as a part of my palette, and so I believe it's a great one to start with (especially as it's more tinting than the other ones.
    I hope you enjoyed this episode of the paint show, and I'll see you tomorrow with another video (:

    I have the intro set of Primatek paints. It includes 6 small tubes of colors at a very reasonable cost which has allowed me to play with these rather unique formulations. It doesn't include the green apatite so that will go on my shopping list. A few of these colors have an intrinsic sparkle which is unique as well. For example, the hematite which is included in the intro set went down initially as a very pale washed out granulating gray , but after glazing a second and third time the granulation of this gray and sparkle of the stone base became apparent, wonderful for glazing over areas that depict stone. I found judicial use of these paints great for generating a bit of excitement and surprise in what would otherwise be a simple watercolor sketch.

    Nice! Another one I have to get! I just got the amethyst genuine from the primatek line and I love it! I also love stones and their meanings so I'm glad they made these. I'll have to check out handprint.

      Colleen M I never really mentioned this but I love rocks and crystals too 😊
      I have 4 really beautiful ones, and plan on getting more. My favorite is labradorite, and I also love my amethyst 😁

    Oh WOW... I MUST have that for landscapes... not UFO contact though LOL... that's for the New Agers who use for that kind of stuff. But I'll let you know after I use it with trembling hands. ;-) No kidding though... just dropping it on wet, the light green, brown and darks migrate to exactly the right places to do a bush!!! Amazing! Edit: went looking for more videos on this pigment and yours is the BEST!... thanks for great view of its properties.

      Pat Kin Haha thank you 😁 I looked for others too, and when I found none that were good I thought to myself "YESS!!" Haha.
      The dispersion is indeed beautiful, I can't wait to use it in some actual paintings!

      Dang! I went to look at the price and saw three or four more I think I can't live without! Ugh.. sure I will eliminate at least one but must have the Serpentine also.. it migrates in the same fashion.

    Primateks can be hard to lift if left to dry in pallets. I find that it's better to add water to them before use. Best used straight from the tube. Also they tend to lift from the paper so I recommend care when glazing with them. The effects you get are nice though.

      Thank you! (:
      These are great advice, I've had a similar experience with the Primateks I tried.
      You may need some time getting used to them and learning them, but they are great afterwards.

    Really beautiful green. Very different. Kind of reminds me of white nights regular 'green' color but the granulation rocks.

    I have a tube of Green Apatite Genuine. I use it mostly in landscapes. It is also a nice color for rocks. I also have Sap Green; but, it seems so boring compared with this color. Thanks for another episode of The Paint Show.

      @LironYan  7 років тому

      Donna G My pleasure! 😊 Sap Green bores me a little too haha. It's too even. It's just easier to mix your own greens.
      But this one really is a little more unique (:

    Love this one. Currently my favorite green is the "green" by Nevraskaia Palitra - PG 8. I may try green apatite genuine when I finish it. I have a personal rule to force me to paint more: I am only allowed to buy 2 new comors when I finish another. I have a color wish list inspired by youtube reviews :)

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 років тому +2

      Meda Halmaciu That's a GREAT rule actually 😊
      It makes sure you don't "eat with your eyes", like we say here in Israel haha (not sure it works in English).

    You should try D.S. Piemontite Genuine(also in DS Primatek series)
    It looks a deep chocolatey brown in mass tone but when it is washed onto paper it has a warm pinkish undertone(it reminds me faintly of pink lemonade lol) and the brown, chocolate and caramel colors are heavily granulated throughout with a sandy, tan tint mingled with the others

    I love that color. I need to have it. I don't have green except green gold(PY129) which is weird because the name and pigment number is different. my local art store only have daler rowney and winsor and newton. hope one of them do make that green.

    • @LironYan

      Nelson Ong Hmm, I see. The closest one I found to this is the Sap Green by Daniel Smith. If you can find a similar one for the other brands it should be close enough 😊

    It's a beautiful color, I think that maybe on the handprint page, he annotated that UFO thing, because of the fact that DS love to sell using inspiring words for marketing thing. Liron, have you checked the problem of the primatek "genuine" DS watercolors??. Love your videos.

    I found it really interesting, but I get lost in the moment I thought: where I can really use it? I mean, is so particular that as a green for a vegetation in a landscape I wonder if it could not look too exaggerate. Even because the green side it has looks to be really bright. So... yes... I feel like it's cool, it really is... but maybe useful more for some special occasion. Anyway, is a really persona observation ...

    Does granulation depend on the paper? I generally watercolor in my bible and of course the pages are completly smooth. Would thebpaint even be able to granulate?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 років тому +1

      From my own past experience the paint will also granulate on hot-pressed paper. Even with no texture.
      But this could be a nice experiment to try, perhaps in a future video (:

    Does this color dry and re-wet well when poured into a pan?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 років тому

      It dries a little hard on the palette and stays that way. But it does rewet (in terms of producing color and how pigmented it is) fairly easily. Hope that makes sense 😛

    • @kitse_xiii8334
      @kitse_xiii8334 6 років тому

      Liron Yanconsky thank you, I'm more interested in the re-wetting, because I heard that some of the Prima Tek don't rewet and give off pigment when they're in a pan
