The German that spared Norman was a younger version of Norman. Some people say that scene was unrealistic. I disagree. Friedrich Lengfeld was a German Lieutenant that gave his life to save the life of an American soldier. He is buried at the Hurtgen Cemeter where the US 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry placed a plaque in English and German at the grave of Lengfeld that reads, "No man hath greater love than he who layeth down his life for his enemy." In war anything is possible😮😊
@@rileytruax766 Yes Franz Stieigler (sp?) escorted wounded B-17 to the channel so they wouldn't get shot at by German anti-aircraft crews. The B-17 was piloted by Charlie Brown 😂. There where Submariners and Engineers to helb build a whole 1:1 Sub and they filmed in there to get it as close to the real thing as posible. And the movie shows how the crew deals with boredom, fear and claustrophobia. Its a masterpiece and many will say its the Best Submarine and War movie ever made. But thats up to each individual.

If you want to see a battle like this one that really happened check out the movie TO HELL AND BACK. It's the story of Audie Murphy the most decorated soldier of WW2. He plays himself in the movie. Everything he did, including earning his Medal of Honor he did before he turned 20. He was a giant of a man all 5ft. 5in and 125 pounds of him.

And if a war movie came on TV, he turned it off or changed the channel. He wanted NOTHING to do with the war. And you did not press him about it either.
You guys are both looking great, obviously Devinity looking better. This is loosely based on a true story, the tank had a different name though. The tank was named “In the mood”. You can understand why they didn’t name the movie that.

JRocks & Divinity, I honor your fathers' service. I also honor JRocks grandfather. Those men were cast in the depths of the Great Depression and forged in the fire of WW2. My Dad had dual citizenship as by luck he was born in Tampa, Florida. Of the 6 kids in my father's family only he and his older brother were born in the US. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, my Dad went to the US Counsel's office, birth certificate in hand and asked to come to the US to join the Army. So my Dad left his young wife with her family and came to the US and joined the Army. His older brother's wife was totally blind so he decided to stay back. Long story short my Dad was severely wounded in a training accident and was discharged after he recovered. My Dad decided to stay so he brought my mother over and that's how my sisters and I all wound up here. JRock, Vietnam was a shit hole war. If you read the history of it you will soon learn that it was caused by stupid-evil US politicians. We never should have been there. Millions died because one of our Presidents, Wilson, was an arrogant elitist and another was a power hungry liar, Lyndon Baines Johnson. JRock, you need to talk to your Dad about his experiences in Vietnam. Tape them and keep copies of the tapes for the family. My best friend did 2 tours of duty as a combat Marine in Vietnam. He died in 1997, a victim of Agent Orange, the defoliant sprayed by our government in Vietnam. From what I can deduce from what my friend told me, tank crews must have had pretty tough. It's hot and humid in Vietnam so it had to get pretty hot inside a tank. 4 men in a confined area loading shells, doing maintenance, and taking care of equipment in 125° heat had to smell something unearthly. Then there was the hazards of mines and ambushes by the enemy to worry about. Please JRock, do yourself, your family, and your Dad a favor and make a tape of hid life.
@@JrocksAndDevinity That's excellent about your grandfather. EXCELLENT. I never knew either of my grandfather's as both died before I was born. The eldest sister told me her brother was a genius. The youngest told me he was insane. He was married 5 times and had 21 children so the youngest sister may have been right. My point is your Dad had unique experiences in what was a unique war. There was nothing like Vietnam in all US history. The war was micromanaged from Washington. The rules of engagement benefited the enemy and our media turned against us while a sort of 5th column operated within the US to undermine our troops. The Sherman was a good tank. It was dependable and easy enough to manufacture that many of our car companies could build them by the tens of thousands. We not only supplied our troops in both theaters of the war with tanks but also supplied the British and all our allies. The Sherman was fast, maneuverable, and most of all dependable. They were adaptable so many variations came into existence. The best known of the variants is the Firefly, which could take out a Tiger inside 800 yds. Fury was a Firefly with a 76 mm gun. The British version of the Firefly supported a 17 pound main gun. On D-day, the Brits customized some Shermans to make specialized tanks they called the Funnies.❤
@@TTTT-oc4eb You're right. The Firefly carried a 76.2 mm high velocity long gun aka the British 17 pounder. The US equivalent, though not really equal to the British 17 pounder, was the 76 mm high velocity gun. I believe it was the same gun used on the M-18 tank destroyer.
The tanks in the movie came from the Bovington Tank Museum in England. The Tiger is the only real functioning Tiger in the world. Most movies make old Russian T-34s or Czechoslovakian T-38 made up to look like Tigers.
