That Eli Herring story was wild. I'm Mormon, so it's pretty common practice for us to not even leave our house, except to go to church on Sunday. It's not very weird for me, but for all of y'all, it must seem strange, lol.
Well at least the NFL sent him a fat check once he found out he was drafted 55 years earlier! Adjusted with inflation I believe they paid him a lump sum of 4.7 million dollars in 1996 I think it was. So... sure he missed out on potentially being an NFL legend.. but at least he got paid for it LOL
You can always choose god over money. But that doesn’t mean that isn’t the selfish decision. Maybe his kids lose faith, I’m sure they would’ve wished he went to make some of that money instead of being broke his entire life.
Even though he never played college football Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfeld was drafted in the 17th round of the 1973 NFL Draft by his hometown team the Minnesota Vikings.

Great stories and keep up the strong work! I seriously thought the David McDaniels was story was gonna end in some sort of mistaken identity ending or with the real guy dying and some other dude taking his identity....Great twist
Yeah the Saints were goofy for that Ricky Williams trade. The worst part is that Washington just wasted all those picks. And even worse, the Bengals turned down even more to draft Akili Smith that year.
What's really crazy about Williams-for-the-draft is that it was completely unnecessary: with the Redskins having made pretty clear that they were taking Champ Bailey at 5, and the Rams at 6 obviously not taking a running back 24 hours after trading for Marshall Faulk, he still would've been available to the Saints at 7.
I know Eli Herring. He was my o-line coach in high school. I feel he made the right decision. He’s been able to have a great influence on myself and many others as a coach and teacher. He’s been a great example to me as a man and player. He’s also been a great example of a Christian by being a good man. Yes, he turned down a lot of money but he’s done a lot of good in other ways. One was influencing my life for good. I believe this choice was what God wanted him to do so he could bring a lot of good into many lives in other ways apart from being a pro athlete.
You play football as an O lineman for what 10 years if your really lucky? Dude could have played like 3 years and built all the missions his heart desired truth is the dude was just soft and knew he'd never make it in the NFL
Another good one KTO. I'm listening to this while working so it was kinda hard to pick up on verbal queues that you were moving on to the next story but other than that. learned a lot!
Looking back at the Eagles roster when McNabb was drafted, I can sort of understand why Eagles fans will get upset with the pick, though the boos was unwarranted. This was the year when Andy Reid first became the team's head coach, and the Eagles needed help in virtually every position. Obviously, when your team has so many holes in the lineup, you will take the best prospect available, but I think Reid saw something in McNabb that made him their pick instead of Ricky Williams. Hindsight is 20/20, but with the way the Eagles fans were jeering, you would think they missed out on a Hall of Famer caliber player (technically true, since Edgerrin James and Champ Bailey were still available, and both are enshrined in Canton as of 2021, but back then, who would have known).
Ricky! My favorite Dolphin ever. I had a life-sized cardboard cutout of him in my room. Maybe not a Hall of Fame career, but the guy had Hall of Fame talent.
