- See what food to expect for lunch buffet aboard a Cunard cruise ship, specifically the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner! See what we enjoyed and didn't like as much. We were on a transatlantic cruise on the QM2 in June 2022, and tried out the King's Court buffet restaurant daily. Cunard had many gluten-free options, seafood (even sushi), and very good food quality, though the selection is a bit limited. Dessert variety was quite plentiful, however.

I feel like I should echo a previous commentator here by repeating, "The time you take to photograph and label each dish at the buffet really pays off, prior to the all-important taste-testing. Very informative and relaxing videos..." I felt like it needed to be said again, because it was said so perfectly. Also, I want to say I *died* @9:51 with the shrimp skewers. Then watching your wife taste test it somehow made the flavor come to life. I came to life again until @10:25 when I saw the Skagen Shrimp Sandwich with dill crème freaiche, and then I died again... SO much good food on this cruise line, and *so* well-prepared. I'm very impressed with Cunard's cruise buffet. I feel like all cruise lines should be paying you a commission for all of this wonderful advertising you're giving them!

Having a big English breakfast aboard QM2 is the ultimate ! Had my first ever scone with clotted cream and a cup of tea in the buffet while a soccer match was being watched by enthusiastic fans- one of those unforgettable moments that is priceless and stays with me to this day.

Not sure why there are so many moaners about, I found Cunard to have one of the better lunch buffets. How many lunch buffets provide sashimi? 🤣 the prime rib roast looked amazing too.

OMG! That was TORTURE! I nearly went through the screen trying to get to the Cream Braised Leeks with Artichokes & Garlic. Thankfully, while I was watching it, my daughter came in with some lunch for me!

Looks good. There seems to be many foods I am unfamiliar with .. like what the heck is treacle?? It would definitely be an adventure.
Yeah definitely a lot of British food here. I didn't know what treacle is as well- but apparently it's some sort of sugar by-product syrup that has some bitterness to it. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
Black treacle is a bit like molasses. Love it myself. Black treacle toffee or black treacle glaze on ham yum.
4 years ago on boarding day there was rack of lamb on the buffet. It was wonderful.

I'll say this much removing the elevator shaft in the main lobby really opened up the space in the king's court buffet

Yes love the buffet on Cunard on Queen Victoria they used to call me the crackling man as always had pork roast would always get the fresh pork out of the oven when they saw me
Yeah some of the crew members serving at the buffet definitely have a sense of humor. On the QM2 buffet we would ask for a "a little" of for instance the roast striploin, and the chef would give us literally a speck of meat lol 😁 Thanks for the comment!

Wonderful video. I served in the Navy 4 years during Vietnam War. We had really good food but nothing like this. I wanted to try everything I saw!

Here my vote: (1) The best hamburger is on Carnival-Guy Fierro Hamburger. (2) The best burritos, taco is on Carnival-Blue Guyana. (3) The best hotdog is on HAL- Nathan Hotdog. (4) The best BBQ is on Carnival on sea day- Guy’s Pig restaurant. I am still looking for cruise line that has pizza as good as pizza in California Kitchen Pizza restaurant. BTW, MSC the Italian cruise line do NOT have pepperoni pizza, I guess Italian don’t have pepperoni.
Sounds like a spot-on to me. For vegetarians, HAL's Dive-In has some of the best choices. Also for burritos, gotta say Royal Caribbean is stepping up their game there.

I've travelled on the Beautiful Ship 8 times ...... Great service 100% all the time .
However , the chips are always cold . No Sauce bottles available....particularly Daddys, You have to ask .

Just got back from a minor league baseball game with my son and had below-average ballpark food. Completely drooling over this video.

Thank you so much Brad- appreciate it! 😊 The Transatlantic was a bit meh since there were no ports, and it was pretty cold outside even though it was June. QM2 herself is a very interesting ship too with lots of art & historical décor, so plenty to explore. The food was quite good, and they had some interesting venues like a planetarium (played movies there as well), lots of live music, and pretty good shows. There were also an amazing group of WWII & Vietnam War veterans onboard called "The Greatest Generation", and they made some moving presentations.
Passengers were quite friendly and it was easy to strike up conversations, and probably similar age-wise compared with Holland America. It was about 65% American, 25% Brits & the remainder were Germans, Canadians, etc.
Sorry about the hot dog- not! 😏
We were on the May 29 crossing. Really did not mind the crew serving the beverages, but thought, overall, that the food was less than spectacular. We thought Princess buffet far outweighed Cunard.
Nice! Which Princess ship were you on? We need to go back to another Princess cruise- it's been a couple of years. Heard that the food hasn't been that great lately, but maybe they're turning it around.
It’s great that they have gluten free options but it looks like mostly sandwiches and wrapped crackers. It would be a little overwhelming to keep asking if the food contained gluten or is cross contaminated in the same fryer with other foods or GF pasta cooked in the same water as regular pasta. Is there a way to know the ingredients of each meal on a cruise? I would love to go on a cruise.
The best way is to ask the crew members/wait staff working at the dining area- they would know, and if not they will find out for you. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for your videos. Must confess that I have not been cruising for approx. ten years now, but the food, from what I remember, seemed to be much better than what they seem to be providing these days - based on your videos. Quality/presentation seems to have suffered over the years!! It looks nowhere near as good, as it did years ago.

The food you have labelled as terrine is pork pie. A British pie with a crust and filling of spiced pork and gelatine. I suppose it's just a British food

@@TravelTouristVideos I suppose it's an unusual pie in that it's made in a long rectangle may be 2 foot long and cut into slices you can get it with a boiled egg in the middle also.
The long square pork pie with the boiled egg in the middle is commonly known as Gala pie and I frequently purchase several slices of such from the deli counter in Waitrose here in The UK..its rather good

It would help us viewers see if they incorporated any local dishes in the dining. Also, could you say what camera/equipment you use? I love the quality.

A pretty sad looking buffet compared to what I've experienced on my last two Viking Ocean cruises.
Viking sounds like a great cruise line, but it is much more expensive.
Under any circumstances, never talk with food inside your mouth.
dont forget folks to take your cruising trousers or pants if your american,those with elasticated waste ,because if your like me il be trying everything,the last time i put on 18lbs in just over a week,
Hello Travel Tourist Video (Cinematographer). Mate; no doubt you and your good lady wife are interested in the thoughts of us viewers. I don't mean to offend, as I know you are trying to assess what the viewer thinks of the food. My comments are not designed to be offensive to you. You do a marvellous job filming the spread set out by Cunard, and your good lady wife gives a good narrative of the dishes she reports on however; I'd rather be truthful and say the meals on Cunard do not push my buttons. The food at the Kings Court looks less than ordinary, and to be honest; I could not endure a 7 day cruise with a drunken pianist aimlessly tickling the ivories. It reminded me of a North Vietnamese/Viet Cong Bugler, from the D445 Viet Cong Battalion and his North Vietnamese mates who ambushed 108 of us at the Long Tan Rubber plantation back on 18 August 1966. There were well over 2000 VC and NVA personnel, who had us surrounded. Their Bugler would not shut that damn thing up (I regretted having left my Bagpipes back at the Nui Dat base) All jokes aside mate, I was ready to slit my wrists with rusty razor blades. Looks like Cunard ("Queen Mary 2") and the P & O ship "Britannia" are not for me. I'd sail on the P & O "Iona" which presented far superior meals in the food that was included with your fare, but QM2 and Britannia were much of a muchness. It is my humble opinion that on ships like QM 2 and Britannia, they would expect you eat in their overpriced restaurants, and it is not my idea of fun making the Directors of Cunard and P & O wealthy. Don't worry my friends, I won't bother you again. You won't get anymore posts from me that will ruin your trips. Enjoy your cruises and stay safe. Cheers!

No problem at all- we're just reporting and showing what the food were like, and it doesn't hurt our feelings etc if we thought it was good but others didn't- it's all subjective. No doubt; there are some dishes that are terrific but on the whole; their offerings look quite tame (and I say that without having tasted the food. I think we still like HAL's food a bit more overall- better breakfast menu, slight edge at the buffet & definitely better service at the buffet too (they take & bring your drink orders to the table). But it's subjective & but we were impressed by Cunard's food for sure.

At a buffet being served by the crew reduces the exposure to norovirus.
For sure! We actually like that, though having the crew serve you at the beverage station is a little too much IMO
You are paying one of the highest price cruise lines and they serve hamburgers. Hot dogs. And pizza? I would say you got ripped off.
I had a 14 night transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York and back again for £999. I wouldnt call that expensive. Do you know any cruise lines that doesn’t serve pizza, hotdogs and burgers? I don’t.
@@G0oner must of been an inside room. I have taken quite a few cruises and actually all ready have 4 planned between now and the 1st of April 2023 .always at least a balcony or above. I have to have fresh air. Due to ASTHMA. I mostly eat in the main Dining rooms. And I observe dress codes. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO DO Cunard. But now have second thoughts due to your video . @@paulcgrout5108 yes it was inside, balcony was an extra £200 which still isn't expensive. Which of your cruises have you not seen Hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza? If you eat in the main dining room mainly, why does a buffet video change your mind about a cruise. This wasn't my video by the way, I am just a guest that found the food offered by Cunard to be good. Judging by your comments it's probably a good idea you do not go on Cunard, maybe stick to the 6 star cruise lines 👍

We only get the opinion of one person whose taste may not be good for most people.
People don’t dress up for anything anymore. They all look like they’re going to Golden Coral for lunch. Why would anyone travel on a luxury liner and eat hamburgers and hotdogs? This is not a cruise ship. It’s a luxury liner.
People did dress up actually for dinner at the main dining room, and it's actually mandatory (somewhat)

The photos of the food are super useful but I lost all respect for your opinions on the food when I saw nothing but ketchup on the hot dog.
