It is because of pressure and advices from elders to "not smile or talk much walk slowly, look down etc. ". Second thing is medium class families can't afford expensive makeup artist. So their beautician also suggest to not make movement of face or makeup will get ruined. Third thing is this new experience, all that crowd and loud voices also makes bride little nervous. My sister in law and my wife both were so serious looking at the time of wedding but now they are most happy girls of our family. So don't judge just by looks.
That's because forced arranged marriages are still very prevalent in India due to societal pressure to get married within the same caste/sub-caste. I think she is underage, and she seemed it. Brides are traditionally supposed to look unhappy so I don't think that is the best gauge. He seemed quite tolerant of her lack of finesse. She is distant from him, literally arms length stretched between them, because she is a kid, and she is unsure. She had trouble getting the flowers over his head because she didn't want to get too close as she doesn't know him like that. Her smiles are a result of her families laughing at her behavior. He didn't seem angry to me. Just nervous, and a bit careless of her face jewelry. He is not angry. He is focused on posing for photos. Even if she is not underage, she is probably quite young, and inexperienced in such love type matters as that is nearly forbidden there.
