    That is text book on how not to log. The guy running the chain saw was rubbing it back and forth like it was a hand saw. Half of the trees were fell in a direction that would break then into as many peices as possible.

    In Russia it is called "barbaric logging". It is forbidden to saw on the slopes of the ravines so that there is no soil erosion. Whoever does this goes to jail.

    This is why logging should be managed by the right people!!what's wrong with people ??The greed for money is the problem and it's not the actual people that's doing the work it's the people that are on the other end!!

    Nice display of the use of the Arch and winch the last two trees fell perfect, the first two looks like they had alot that broke off. Hard to fell a tree and not waste in that kind of terrain. Thanks for the video.

      @jackstone1673 6 років тому +2

      No it's not hard to not waste. We winch DF up almost vertical slopes. Every tree is saved to the tassle. I know the volume isn't in the tops, but you're only as good as your last job. Good arch setup tho. Slow dozer extracting on level ground. Wheel skidder... Guess they didn't have one.

    What a disgraceful exhibition of forestry cowboys trashing a woodland.
    The felled trees are smashed and their value much reduced, the loose soil on the steep sided gorge is disturbed and will be washed into the stream during the next rains, the ground vegetation is largely destroyed.
    If you wanted a demonstration of how NOT to harvest timber you could hardly find a better one.

  • @pvtimberfaller
    @pvtimberfaller 5 років тому +4

    Nasty ground but very poor falling that made it a lot more dangerous & wasted probably 30% the wood, You will get a lot of breakage but this was excessive.
    Oh & yes I log, mostly private ground.
    You would have to clean the debris out the creek & couldn't afford to loose that kind of money here in the US. Invest in a tree jack & somebody who knows how to use it.
    Loved the arch action, not how it was intended to be used (long skids usually with a bald face 7 or 8, they were used a lot in my area up until truck logging & rubber tired skidders made them obsolete) but it got enough lift to get the job done.

    Very poor logging techniques. You destroy more wood than you harvest and by clear cutting that hillside, that will lead to serious erosion and silting of downhill waterways. • @bishopcorva

    *I have lived in Wa., Or., and Idaho as a logger/and tree trucker for 30+ years.
    *I read the negative comments, and thought I would throw my two cents in.
    *This is a difficult and dangerous strip to log.
    *A video can be Very deceiving.
    *We do not know exactly where the land ownership, begins or ends, i.e. the cut line.
    Or what the contract states concerning trees felled onto private ground.
    *The faller is in a dangerous situation, [as usual] but here, he is even more so.
    *Steep ground,
    *Plus being "tied" to a cat, and another human/the cat skinner. Trust me,..
    *it's On your mind.
    *Falling trees in steep terrain up hill where stumps are present.
    Will often cause the trees to become bound up between the stumps, when they are turned butt first as the are yarded.
    *We do not know if these trees will be saw logs for lumber, or chipped for pulp. (I've hauled many loads of nice "saw logs" to paper mills when the demand $ was high)
    * The video shows only 4 trees being felled, and one of them is 'schoolmarmed' near the top.
    *We do not know what debris/tops/limbs were left behind, nor how 'raked clean the finished strip was.
    *The rooted stumps will help with the erosion which will occur.
    But, again we do not know if, or what type of erosion control measures were put in place at the completion.
    *Trees are normally planted ASAP after logging, at a rate of 3 for every 1 harvested.
    * Private timber companies, private land owners, along with the National Forest Land and Timber Managers, do all they can to "Get It Right". Long gone are the days of "Rape And Pillage".
    Other than my rant;
    I must say; It was cool seeing an arch being used.

    @ToxicHolocaust2050 one thing that we often misconcive is the fact that we humans are as natural as a bever or a deer we have taken the position of top of the food chain and to our dismay have made some poor choices leading to the depleation of some of our natural resources but timber always grows back it gows through stages like every thing like here in Maine our pioiner trees would be like aspen gray bearch and beach then once you have a canopy again you will get your climax species like pine hemlock spruce rock mapel yellow birch... by using good harvesting practice we can acually speed up the progress in a "climax" forest it took a long time to realize our faults as we are not perfect and like alot of things corprate intrest will always have intrest wich is where alot of the problems we can both verry much agree on arise but whipe you butt with hemp free tp with no fear the planet has been here for billions of years and its not gowing away any time soon and trees still grow every day I think the solution to our problem is education and responsible logging hemp is just not cost effective you would have every farmer in the us growing the stuff driving up the price of food please educate your self if you really care I my self am about probly 10th gen logger and up untill 40 years ago we could hardly make a dent on the forest now we can cover 200 acres a week with the rite rigging and put a hurting on the woods you better belive it but the industry is starting to squander at its own dismay things will run a cycle yes it will take time will we all die in the meantime no from logging i dont think perhaps we could divert some attention to the real problem at hand wich is america INC. and the corprate take over of this great land
