I have always loved dragonflies! Ever since I was a small child. My great grandfather had a pond at his house and they used to be all over the place there. This was back in the 1950's! I just alwaus thought they looked rather magical. 😊
Dragonflies love medal ,if you put medal in your yards, like medal wire, are streched out coat hangers, the love it for some reason, they love antennas on your vehichles, you can just put water in containers around your yards, I have alot of Dragonflies, and no mosquitoes. This is the cheapest way, without all the work.
Thanks for the motivation. I need to really clean up the backyard and get the ponds back in shape, build raised beds, remove dead trees etc..Thanks again and keep up the good work. Glad I found you.
Solid, inexpensive ideas! Do you participate in any events where you allow folks to view your garden? I would LOVE to see your yard;)😂❤. I already loved dragonflies, but knowing they eat 100 mosquitoes makes them only 2nd to lady bugs! Thanks 🎉
Fascinating video that completes my reading on ponds. I was wondering if you had the names of the plants you favour? Clearly, dragonflies (plus birds and bats) are great allies in controlling mosquitoes, as are runner ducks against slugs! I've got some books on ponds by Gilles Leblais (in French but perhaps translated?) with a list of aquatic plants and their oxygenating properties.... I would add to what you have said that it might be useful to create a water decontamination basin with various plants and stones or even activated carbon (to be replaced) to avoid adding treated ‘drinking’ water directly to a pond. Thank you for sharing your experiences and for the superb images! What a magnificent living garden, even far from light pollution^^
Please never allow invasive plants/grasses in the garden. Pampas grass is high ranking invasive pest plant from South America. It causes environmental damage, takes over and clogs waterways. Instead, design the garden with local native plants/grasses so dragonflies and all the other creatures are supported by plants they have "co-evolved" with. Pollinators need the plants they specialize in. Dragonflies will thank you for the habitat! Thank you.
I just planted 2 pampas grass plants, for privacy, low water landscaping, oxygen production, tweaker deterrents, and dragonfly habitat. 👍🏼 It also comes in pink! I practically live in South America, so it's indigenous here, it won't be clogging any waterways, and it won't spread here as it requires some watering in order to establish. I just *had* to respond to this pompous post about Pampas. 😉

They’re the friendliest insect I think. Cheers

"Metal," in case you're unsure.👍🏼I like this cheaper, easier method. I will be trying it immediately.
Thanks for this video. Didn’t really know much about Dragonfly’s, do have them around occasionally though !
You’re welcome…cheers.

The number one is pickerel. Extremely vigorous, flowers all summer, attracts incredible number of pollinators. Cheers.
To heat the water pond, could i use a plant warmer pad under the container?
So... the features you add attract mosquitoes, and therefore dragonflies. 🤷🏼
just make sure you keep the cats away. cats love to catch and kill dragonflies and butterflies.
Fortunately a well fed cat can be a lazy cat. Such is ours. 😂
