I try my best to make positive, entertaining and educational camera content, while also encourage constructive feedback and discussion. I was gonna buy the Panasonic S9 when I heard rumors about the release, then I saw all the youtubers "reviewing" the camera and I said: "no, thank you."
Panasonic's reformed marketing strategy (paying Sony users to switch to Lumix and these Japan events) to fluff their brand is hitting all kinds of wrong. They went from being pretty quiet in the influencer space to full throttle and it hasn't gone unoticed.

If I was still on my Lumix GX85 I'd be all over this. Fits my style (I never used the EVF on my GX85). But I switched to Sony with my A7IV, and I definitely prefer the E Mount ecosystem to the L Mount.

How can you say this camera is close to perfect? PetaPixel was pretty clear of it obvious flaws. This video sounds like you are reviewing a whole different camera.
I talked to almost everyone who went on this trip including Chris. It was pretty obvious to me the direction most people were going to take their videos, and while I did mention all of the same flaws at multiple points throughout my video; I actively chose not make my content overly negative, and simply enjoy my time shooting with the camera. So while this camera might not be for you, or for pro shooters, it definitely has some features that appeal to the audience it's made for.

This is your line of work it needs something that hooks but this camera is such a disappointment to a brand that tries to avoid releases such as this. As fans and loyal users, this doesn’t sit well with many for obvious reasons. So to see it deemed as “an almost perfect camera” feels forced

As always great video & info & I enjoyed it. Read some not so nice comments about your view as “being almost perfect camerea” etc.. just ignored those petty comments. Yours are always right to the points while being lighthearted and easy going..
absence of EVF, Hot Shoe, Mechanical Shutter, any kind of Flash. This camera is almost terrible.

It's called marketing, the manufacturer paid for a bunch of UA-camrs to go to Japan and review the camera. In my opinion the UA-camrs should disclose the benefit they are receiving. Reviews where the reviewer receives a benefit will always be different. Even loaner cameras, loaner cameras to major press like PC Mag won't have an influence but to an individual UA-camr it will as they will won't to keep the flow of loaner cameras coming etc. Free trips is another level of influence.

Panas started strongly pusing on Sony, and that's cool !) I have a S5IIX and this one would be a good b-cam for me.
That's kind of how I feel. If you're someone who was considering a ZV-E1 but doesn't need a hotshoe or long recording times, this feels like a bargain.

Which kit do you use for your you tube shorts? Also what how do you turn your Lightroom presets into a LUT?
Might need to make a video on the LUT process. Regarding kit, most of it is linked on my KIT page. I typically use the same cameras for everything.
I don't think non-flagships are targeting perfection.
This is a budget S5II, that statement in itself means cost reduction, and cost reduction means less features. The features they removed are parallel to the price reduction, and to me, they are all good decisions.

I heard / read / saw somewhere that recording limits are more for tax purposes rather than anything else. Because without limits it would fall under video camera bracket instead of photo camera. Not sure how true is that.
I shoot lumix professionally and have both S5ii and S5iix. And I take my FujiX100v with me when travelling. I am considering this because of all the lenses I have, etc. Size factor is huge for me.
It might be, but I also did talk directly to the Lumix team. It sounds like they had a pretty big back and forth about the time limit. Fingers crossed they listen to everyone's feedback and remove the limit, or at least make it longer.

The corner wobble in the early part of the video, is it from old s5ii firmware or manual lens? because i saw some youtuber says the new firmware fixes those wobble on wide angle lens, or maybe it doesnt really fix those thing

A video shot on Panasonic has never disappointed me! It's unbelievable that a full-frame sensor (35.6 x 23.8 mm) can fit into a camera with a compact body 📷

Not only full-frame, but full-size battery and Lumix IBIS too. Two things the Canon R8 doesn't have, that I think a lot of people glossed over!

lumix literally just had too many ff sensors and had to retrofit them somewhere on a budget
An high res. Evf & supports Sony Mi's digital microphone, then this is an absolute perfect camera to me. I'm very impressive with its small size form factor & insane stabilization capability.

Honestly, if I was going to drop $1500 for a camera like this, I would just go with the Fuji. I even shoot LUMIX. If I’m going with that form factor, I’d much rather it just be a true point and shoot. And you at least get an EVF
The X100VI is a fun camera
Fuji has the design philosophy, sony's got the tech and panasonic is a swiss army knife(minus the evf, grip and headphone jack)
Fuji uses a much smaller light sensor, so it's not even in the same league as the LUMIX camera. LUMIX takes the win on this one.
Panasonic strategy :
2024: no evf, no mechanical shutter, no hot shoe, no flash, no AF pancake Lens,….
2034: no Customers 😂😂😂
There are some cameras that I will not consider buying. This one is on the top of this list. One has to be retarded to buy a full frame smartphone without smartphone features. Maybe at 800$, but not at this price point.

LUMIX should add a bluetooth connection for headphones and enable the USB-C port for headphone out.
The other option I've heard is using something like the Rode or DJI wireless mics that have the ability to monitor with headphones!
No shutter, no evf, not remotely ergonomic for heavy FF lenses. No thanks. Also coming in ridiculous colors, I assume to try and drag in the beginner crowd, and then they price it totally out of a beginner friendly budget. I mean 1500 for a stripped down camera is insane. 1-200$ more get the Fuji XT5 ffs.....

Great review Anthony, way more positive than the rest, who saw this more from the professional side of user, rather than a high end rangefinder little baby S5II camera, for those who actually have a S5II, but we want a tiny body when we're not working, without compromising the quality of photos or videos. I think is actually sick we're having all the quality from the big brother, in such a tiny cute camera.

1 big flaw?
I see it as a good beginner content creator camera for Tik Tokkers or a good entry level photo camera to get into the L-mount system. This is not for the full Professional. Casual shooter/videographer. Not a bad camera. What it is lacking, it makes up for in portability and fun experimentation.

I have a Sony Zve10 and will never buy another camera without a EVF.
I counted 2 flaws... Cold shoe and electronic shutter only.

The almost perfect camera turn out to be the perfect fiasco
With the missing features this is far from even being close to a "perfect camera". Slow readout speed, no hot shoe, no EVF, crippling record limit, no headphone jack, crop in video modes? Almost Perfect? More like almost total trash. And it costs $1500 USD. It's not even a good B cam. On a positive I like what Lumix is doing with the LUT options. Hopefully that trickles out to the rest of the industry.

This camera is not for professional in experts level photography.
It's content creators camera, who don't need camera setting. Just snap video/camera and produce good image.
Perfect camera? Not really close IMO.
Pros for S9 vs S5ii: 258g lighter than S5ii, Smaller body, $300 cheaper than S5ii, LUT mayhem if you're into that, Cold shoe
Pros for S5ii vs S9: EVF, Mechanical shutter, Dual card slots, Headphone jack, True unlimited recording with a fan, Way more buttons and customization in the body, Proxy recording, 14bit Raw files, Better grip, Weather sealed body, Hot shoe for flash photography and XLR adapter
The S9 makes the S5ii look really good. Keep in mind everything has it's benefits. Some people would pay anything for a lightweight FF camera.
Cool camera, a bit pricey for what it offers. The Lut function is awesome (kudos for that Lut montage). Excited to see new features in the industry.
I really hope other camera brands are paying attention

It would have been much more inteligent to launch a gm5 replacement with the 25mp with pdaf, ibis, popup evf and articulated screen, to go for the action photography market.
