The simplicity of it is what makes it great. Like you mentioned, it's also a great jumping off point to something a little fancier with extra attention. Thanks for sharing!
You made this look so easy. I've watched your video several times and each time I'm amazed at how effortless you made this seem. I know it probably wasn't. Nice work.
That was very nicely presented. And the box turned out nicely too. I’m 76 and late to woodworking. Very late, in fact. And in consideration of my age, my projects need to be not too demanding. And I do love the small boxes . Plus I have children and grandchildren that someday might treasure a box such as this. Oh…..and unlike another viewer, I am nonplussed that you have top notch tools. One might wonder if this guy’s dentist is still labouring away with tools from the ‘50’s……..like drills driven by pulleys and such. Ya think? Thanks again…..and I subscribed!
I was looking for a keepsake box for my partner but all the ones I found were ugly, too big, too little or too expensive! I sent this video to my dad and we're going to make one for him instead! Thank you for this video! It's going to help a lot!
My first youtube comment ever! Thank you for your video. I made the box, I’m a well advanced beginner. I had some challenges and maybe my experience can help others. My miters did not turn out well. I used dewalt table saw, crosscut sled, blade at 45 deg checked with a speed square for accuracy. So I bought the wood putty referenced in this video. Since I decided to use maple for the box and walnut for the lid, the miters were maple. Used the timbermate maple filler and sanded and they really did not look that good. Dark lines were apparent. Would have done a walnut box if I could do over -the dark color would hide the imperfections better. Or, I would have built a better jig to cut my miters. Pay close attention to the hinges you buy, screw type and size. Many of rocklers have ROUNDED head screws which means the box will not close. They have to be flush screws. I used the lid epoxy technique in this video but ran into some trouble due to less than perfect drilling. Next time I would epoxy hinges to the box, then epoxy to the lid. That keeps the screws from pulling the hinges crooked if your drilling is even slightly off. A little bit off goes a long way to crookedness. All things considered, I have a nice looking box. Thanks again for the video!
Very nice - and a good reminder about notching the back /before/ assembly. I've see the lid/hinge/glue thing also done with CA. The carboard shims is a good trick too - Thanks -
I have watched this video about five times so far. Its simple and well made. I have made a few simple boxes now and thank you for the start. I do look to start dressing them up a bit. They should make great gifts for friends and family.
Thanks for a great inspiring video, you did it coffin and now with this box build. You know I’m very new to woodworking but I’m going to build a nice box for our family bible that’s been handed down to me. I will send some pics. Thanks again for challenging me.
@@GotItMade Yes, even laser engraving! Or, the old fashioned way, the sun and a magnifying glass. You might be suprised what the outcome can be with a magnifying glass.
Really enjoyed the video and the way you presented and described the method of construction best of all the installation of the hinges so thumbs up and you’ve won a new subscriber in GB .
Very nice box! I've made a few of these lately but not as nice as yours. But, I did find a good idea. I added splines and also a tic tac toe contrasting insert which transformed it into a nice Tea box for the ladies in your life. They are very very popular, a nice kitchen centerpiece and low cost as I use cutoffs mostly. Good Job again! Thanks.
I discovered the epoxy for the hinge placement about a year ago and have found the T-88 System Three is the best adhesive for the task. You do have to let it cure for at least 24 hours.
Always a great gift idea. I'm trying my hand at picture frames for gifts this year, some out of cherry and some out of walnut. I'll send you some pictures once I get them done!
Love this video. I have made a few boxes but can't ever get the lid straight. I was wondering if a clear , thin double sidded tape would work as well. Thanks
Did you make your table saw cut off device and have plans and info of attachment for miter cuts ? What brand hardwood flooring underlay are you using in boxes floor? I only see a green Steico brand at HD or Lowe’s , Thanks for your videos and time Jack in Idaho
Thank you for including your tips and suggestions for simplifying the installation of the lid. Also pre-sanding is such a great idea. I’m interested in the big board pusher you used. Where did you find that? I’m thinking of ordering one for my husband’s shop. The one he uses is homemade, works for him, but I find it unwieldy.
I KNEW you'd be the first one in with that comment. I knew when I edited the voice over that would catch your attention. " Luckily this piece of Ash was flat....." :-)
Do you ever glue the floor into the slot ? I notice that a little bit of glue from the miter joints probably gets into the ends of the slot. Is that enough ?
I love your keep sake boxes. I collect boxes. I have all different kinds and sizes. Each box contains specific items. Do you sale your keep sake boxes?
Suggestion for a build. I want to make make a box similar to this that has shelves in it. Maybe the box would probably need to be a bit bigger. This would be for my military challenge coins that I have received over the years.
Hi, Could you please provide the name/brand of material you used for the bottom and where you purchased it? Looks terrific and appears easy though work with. Thanks!
Beautiful work, dude! I just subscribed! 😃 If I could give you a tip, try to get a small painting spatula. It's great to spread glue and many other tasks. 😊 (I know because I did painting in the past and now I do woodworking, so... You know. 😬) Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Enjoyable little video but its hilarious how many videos like this demonstrate how to make something out of scraps and do it in a short amount of time. However they all forget that most people who do woodworking as a hobby dont have professional planer thicknesses and table saws, sleds etc so the actual process is nowhere as easy. if we had the professional saws and planers etc. we would probably already know how to make things like this?
Should he not use his shop to its full potential just because others don’t have the same equipment? He’s not obligated to use less efficient tools just to placate others. There are plenty of videos that show the tools you do have now. Be inspired by what this video presents. Maybe you will have an interest in having a shop as nice in the future.
E;oxy idea was worth the whole video. I've made hundreds of boxes, but this will save a lot of time.
My thoughts exactly, every now and then you learn a little something
Nice to see an honest video! I was beginning to think I'm the only woodworker who doesn't make perfect miters every time. Well done.
Flooring underlayment - great idea!
It’s on the list of supplies to pick-up.
Thank you!

This is the first video that I have noticed that didn't have any thumbs down on it. I enjoy the video. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for watching Jess. I'm sure the haters will show up with sore thumbs sooner or later. :-)
Yeah, they’ll come in all “this doesn’t have 12 dovetails. Thumbs down” lol
Love the epoxy on the hinge tip, great way to get the alignment accurate, thanks 👍
came here to say the same thing, thank you.

I'm making a jewelry box for my sweetheart along the same lines as yours. Your tip on epoxying the hinges will help out a lot. Thanks.
"this box is easy" makes the most beautiful box I have ever seen

I like what you did with the keepsake box to make it simple and elegant at the same time. thanks for taking the the time to show us how it is done.
It does look easy, thanks for that. I’ve made one box in my life and that was many moons ago. I think I’ll try your way. Thank you sir!
Nice job! I did find it amusing that you checked for squareness after it had already dried. Anyway, it's a beautiful piece.
Thank you! First time watching one of your videos and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Best box build, I have seen so far. I will try this build,. Thanks
That's a beauty, given its humble origins.
I'm a newbie. Got a lot of information out of that. Nice push stick. Thx 4 ur vid.

Thank you Kalvin. Absolutely on the upgrades. How about laser engraving!

A Sunday with Feddie and all is right with the world. Hope you put out a vlog before Christmas.
You are too kind Bill. Thank you!
Very nice. Clear and concise instructions and as you said lays the ground work for making it your own. Thank you!!
wow that hinge allignment method with epoxy is genius
Had to make a similar box for Navy Chief initiation. Wish I watched this video before I made mine, might have to redo.
Nice little box. Makes a nice little gift.
Thanks James. Yes, these little things are always a hit as simple as they are!
Good video. Well explained how to make a wooden box.
Nice box … love to have the plans for it
You Sir are a true craftsman.
Thank you!
Really enjoyed you taking the time to show your skills; hoping to make a box as you taught here. Thank you!
Thanks for so many great ideas!
Excellent. Been thinking of trying to build something like that to give to my three granddaughters and two grandsons.
Great video, perfect for someone trying to get into making boxes
I also liked the epoxy hinge tip and used it as well. So simple. Thanks
nice box mr Robinson realy nice than you for sharing

Oh yeah and I love your table saw sled!
I am going to use those hinge tricks on my next box. Thanks for the tips!
Great video, question, why no need to mortise the lid for the hinges. Seemed like you flush mounted them
Damn man. You make it look so easy. 😂😂 I'm gonna try to do one. But have zero tools. 😂😂😂
Im diggin the build videos freddie!
Great job. I got some good ideas.
Epoxy tip is great will use it from now on. Have always fought hinges to get everything straight.
Thanks for watching Michael. Glad it helped out!

is it possible to get results as good as this without a thickness planer or a jointer? what techniques would substitute for those two tools?
I'm a beginner at woodworking so can you tell me, are you cutting a 45 degree angle for the mitered corners???
I absolutely love your videos. Your work is so damn nice.
I want to add a mirror to the bottom of the lid so I need a specific type of hinge so that the lid stays at 90 degrees?
