    Book: www.thankyoufor...
    Coffee: brcc.coffee/2rV...
    Verse 1:
Remember when we signed the dotted line, our life away (life away)
Such a young age became government property (property)
It’s 20:00 and the Lieutenant just called a layout
Because some douche bag from b co lost his nods (ain’t no weekend for me)
Life was just a game of hurry up and wait
I remember counting the days until that ETS date
    Chorus:
I can’t believe we miss this shit, it’s true
Worst days days never felt so right - now I’m stuck in a suit and tie
Wishing I was back with the boys
I can’t believe we miss this shit, yes it’s true
    Verse 2:
On this bullshit FOB taking mortars everyday
Had sex with myself in a portajohn to get away
Got TBI from my getting my ass blown up
And most of friends are missing some limbs (you guys are badass by the way)
But this PT belt and eye pro will keep me safe
    From terrorism, because that’s science.
    Chorus:
I can’t believe we miss this shit, it’s true
Worst days days never felt so right - now I’m stuck in a suit and tie
Wishing I was back with the boys
I can’t believe we miss this shit, yes it’s true
    Bridge:
I’ve got bad ankles, got bad knees, and even my back is destroyed
But here I am, still stuck in line at the damn VA
    Chorus:
I can’t believe we miss this shit, it’s true
Worst days days never felt so right - now I’m stuck in a suit and tie
Wishing I was back with the boys
I can’t believe we miss this shit, yes it’s true

It's funny how the older a vet gets, the more he misses the same shit he bitched and moaned about, but that's a great thing. To all those who took our place, stay safe and get back home in one piece. To all my fellow vets, embrace the memories and smile.

Sir, thank you for your service first of all. I'm a citizen but still a Patriot and I can tell you all for one is very much alive in America. Vietnam combat veteran here. The song made me squirt one. You'll never forget the shit you were in, and the comrades in it with you. Here's why:
"I now know why men who have been to war yearn to reunite. Not to tell stories or look at old pictures. Not to laugh or weep. Comrades gather because they long to be with the men who once acted at their best; men who suffered and sacrificed, who were stripped of their humanity. I did not pick these men. They were delivered by fate and the military. But I know them in a way I know no other men. I have never given anyone such trust. They were willing to guard something more precious than my life. They would have carried my reputation, the memory of me. It was part of the bargain we all made, the reason we were so willing to die for one another. As long as I have memory, I will think of them all, every day. I am sure that when I leave this world, my last thought will be of my family and my comrades... such good men." Sabre79, D 1/1

I spent 20 years Army, retired, lost myself in alcohol and depression, ended up in the hospital from an attempt to end it, then to the psyc ward and then to a VA treatment center. When I arrived I felt at home, back with people like myself. Most will not understand how it affects us when we leave, but my story is far to common. These vet channels help brighten my day, but life still has lost that spark. I don't think we ever get over missing, but at least there are brothers and sisters out there to have each others backs.

Straight Jacket it’s not that civilian life is hard. It’s just a sense of purpose and honor. A soldier, marine, airman, sailor....they all know they’re doing something that’s bigger than themselves.

@Straight Jacket It's not anything like that. But for as hellish as war may be, it's a simple life and for a lot of us, when we get out we come back to places we dont recognize anymore and people who are still doing the same things they did 10-15 years ago.
Essentially, we have to find a way to fit in with a society that we have little in common with and that's difficult. I've been out two years and I still wish every day I was still in, even though it was becoming increasingly difficult to continue physically.

I cut my military teeth in the Marines back in 1971, after my ETS I got a job with a County Police Department in Georgia. There I worked on patrol, traffic where I started investigating fatal accidents I was also on the dive team and SWAT where I held every position except team commander. However, It wasn't six months before I started missing the military, my problem was most of the officers were former Marines, not to mention the Department was an friggin awesome. With no Marine Reserve unit around, I kept looking. I eventually met a couple of officers that was in a U.S. Army SF unit.
B Co. 3rd SF Bn, 11th SFG( Abn) to be exact. So I swallowed my pride and joined. Made it through all the jarhead jokes, got my flash ( before tabs), assigned to a team and went to work.
1994 Clinton disbanded all combat arms in the Reserves, so I finished out my 28 years with B Co, 3rd SF Bn, 20th SFG (Abn) of the Florida Army National Guard.
So here I am loving life, then one day I realized my time has come to an end. 2001 retired from the military, 2002 retired from the PD. Still needing to work, new family to include a newborn.
One day I went on a call where a father found his baby not breathing, not saying anything about the father, but it hit me hard the all the father knew what to do was call 911. I later made a mental note to get enough under my belt so that I would never find myself in a situation we where I didn't know what to do.
With that in mind I started looking for something not military or L.E.
I applied for the Southside Fire/EMS Department. A private company that worked on the Paid / Volunteer system. Regular Fire Departments hated us, but with SSFD/EMS you were expected to be able to handle your self. First two years I worked on an ambulance but trained on an Engine. Then I was reassigned to the fire side. There I learned everything I could about the
engines, ladders, tankers. Not just how to put them in operation but how they worked. I also learned as much as I could about all the equipment we had as well as being in charge of a fire scene or a disaster.
On my days off I worked in various units of the Sheriff's Office as a Part time Deputy.
But after Ten years of the FD and SO my body let me know that it was tired of the abuse, so I retired from them also.
So here I am with all this knowledge and too old and beat up to do much with it.
Here's my advice to anyone who hasn't fell asleep yet. If your in LE. Take a EMT course, then spend some time working on an ambulance. If there's a volunteer FD around you, join it.
Its all about cross training to make you a better equipped person in case SHTF.
And get it while you got some youth left.
Getting back on azimith, one night I was working in a housing unit in the jail, feeling sorry for myself. The Corporal over the unit was an old retire E-8, I asked him if he ever missed the military? His answer, "Everyday, like a lost lover".
Maybe you could work that into a song Matt.

I am eternally grateful for the service of our men and women in the military. I was unable to serve due to severe back problems at 17 that required surgery, was also unable to become law enforcement due to the risk of injury in the first 5 years. I fell into a way of life without direction and fell into the wrong croud but i knew it was wrong. I was determined to change that shit around. So I did what I assume is the next best thing and became a security officer. It's not much but as far as serving for the safety of the people, I love it. It gets chaotic and it doesnt even come close to holding a candle to military and LE but it is very fulfilling. From a young age I wanted to serve this country so I'm doing what i can. I love being a security officer but i really hope i can step it up a notch soon. Thank you so much for every one in the military and LE for your service and god bless.

On my 2nd re-eval the shrink was late. I had already called QTC and told them if she wasn't there in 5 minutes I was outta there. She shows up and I asked her if her being late was part of the re-eval and she looks at me like I have the proverbial dick sticking out of my forehead. I explained to her I already had some issues about civilians, the us and them syndrome. It was a quick, right to the point session. Yep I was an 11b also.

signed the line when I was 18. Served 18 years both active duty as well as training and educational later in my career. The hardest part of my life was being retired due to health. The 1st year of my life back was the hardest to acclaim back to loud noises. 2nd was forcing my time as an officer to the back of my head when dealing with day to day. It is a VERY hard process that most of our career soldiers face. I put a poor law officer in an arm bar lock 1st day back because he was an old family friend and slapped me with a grab on the shoulder from behind to say hi and I reacted. I found myself intimidating poor fast food service workers because I was used to get in, eat, get out. You can put the boy in the forces, but its a hard fact to take the forces out of the boy. Gods speed ALL our troops, Canadian, American, British, ALL our military brothers and sisters.
