- Overview of the knight boiler control.
I would add they the 160 degree set point is the maximum the outdoor reset table will run the boiler at.
nsb is night time set back. you set the clock and it will set back the set point for you
the 503 has only one contactor for the TT circuit which is why it can't run the 3 setpoints
The NSB settings are for the night time setback. I had forgotten what that function was for.
We were given a boiler but the max temperature was set at 140. Without the passcode, we were unable to increase it. The 5309 code gave us access to those set points. The manufacturer didn’t think that information was allowed even with the service manual. Thank you.
Outdoor Hi: Warm weather shut off temp
Outdoor Low: lowest temp where boiler will run full power, 100% flame rate.
Cool little boilers.
Great video
I hope one day you can work on a KHN boiler which is basically same as the one here
Gracias herman0
Good information thank you question how did I mess up at changing gas valve noise didn’t go away after replacing same Lochinvar
The fog horn noise? That could be caused by the combustion mixture or sometimes the vent length
@@LEONK82how do you adjust the combustion to get rid of the fog horn noise? I’ve had two different companies look at mine and they both said the noise is normal for these boilers and I should just ignore it.
Good video.. how big is your home? I’m trying to fix my boiler settings because my house is still cold? Maybe I can match the same exact settings!!
It's 1400 square feet
I have one of these boilers. Last winter when it got to -30c it would be loud when going 100% ramp. This year it does that with -5c. Anything I can do to stop this?
I would like to set ramp to 60% max. Is there a setting for that? TIA
When you turn on the ramp delay the last setting will limit the burner rate after the delay is over . So if ramp 6 is 80 it will remain at 80%
Sometimes adjusting the combustion numbers can get rid of the fog horn sound
Is it possible to control this via an app? Does it have built in wifi or anything? Thanks
You can buy the connex board for that.
My boiler shuts off and on a lot. It does not run 20-40% ever. It’s on at 100 when it gets called for heat. The outdoor reset is setup. Can you advise what I should look at? I feel like it gets short cycled. Currently I have far more cycles then I do run time. My house is about 2000 , one zone.
It sounds like they don't have the ramp delay in use. That is covered in the video.
If your boiler is big it's running up to 100%and shutting off from reaching the set point too fast. How many BTU is yours.
The 6th one will set the final limit. You can try it at 70%and go lower untill it can't keep up on the cold nights.
Also what does the temp in parentheses say when it's running. They may have the temp programed too high
@@LEONK82thanks for the reply! My boiler set point is at 175, and my boiler runs at 100 and it never reaches set point. The warmest it gets is like 140. I ramped down the set point to 150 and it modulates a bit finally but it still doesn’t reach 150. My outdoor reset is set up. The other thing to mention- I have a switch relay for a second zone, but the taco switch relay has one master that connects to the boiler to SH1. Both zones tie into the switch relay, so I am unable to adjust different set points for different zones. My basement zone. Which is only 4 radiators, and my upstairs zone, which is 12 radiators, are
Both the same set point. How do I tie in the zones with the switch relay so each zone has its own setpoint? My basement zone can reach 175, but it starts kettling/gurgling at about 170-175. It will reach set point, the upstairs zone will not. So you know why ? And why would it kettle so bad at 175? Thank you for your expertise we have been wracking our brains over this.
@@LEONK82I have a 199000 btu, my screen / interface looks just like this one. Also, setpoint is 175 in parenthesis. But as mentioned the zone with more radiators never meets it, only heats to about 140, and the basement does reach 175 but sounds like gurgling and bubbling unless I turn down to 160.
@@hungrytroutflyshop433 that's why I have the two sr relays. So there are two separate TT wires going to the boiler.
@@hungrytroutflyshop433 the kettling is steam pockets in the heat exchanger. It is not good. You may have air but that usually indicates a flow rate issue. These boilers need to have a minimum flow across the heat exchanger which is why you run close spaced tees or the low loss header. It creates a primary and secondary loop so the heat exchanger always has the flow it needs.
They can be straight piped only when the math works for the flow rate.
did you notice a lower gas bill?
Yes I have, but haven't looked for an exact numbers because winters aren't the same. But on the months where the degree days are similar I saw a savings
