When I started my job I was homeless making $10hr and living in a tent a mile down the road from where I was working, but today I have worked my way up to a switcher truck driver making $24 hr and buying my own home and land. I love my job and overtime is $36 hr all I want to work.

I would take a job that pays a lot over a passion project, but only for a certain amount of time. If there is any debt, get all of that paid off, then develop an emergency fund, and some additional savings.
And then quit and do what you believe you were meant to do.

Nah. My passion is traveling and scuba diving, but I can’t exactly do that for free. I also just don’t have the energy or the body, physically, to dive every day. My hips and knees would hurt. So I like to work, make money and then go scuba diving a few times a year 😉😎

It’s like asking should I live a life I don’t like for money. No. That’s a limiting mindset that money only comes from something you don’t like. Maybe temporarily but it’s not a great plan long term.

Well said. The key word was "temporarily" to fulfill bigger goals in the future. But I've seen especially with Hispanic households that parents sacrifice their ambitions and goals to provide for their children, so the children can pursue their goals and be successful as adults. That to me is critical planning and planning ahead. If someone doesn't get the life they wanted, then their hope should rely on their children since the children bare the identity and surname.

It's everything for most.
I need to pay for internet service and electricity to post here but at least I invest in cable/utility stocks and ETFs reinvesting the dividends in my Roth.
Just stay away from debt,live within means,and use money as a tool through life.

Mostly broke people in debt with no choice.
People that stayed out of debt,saved, invested, living within means already had this figured out long time ago.
I personally knew this in my teens. Have been happy in life all along with no need of downgrading anything.

Half of the comments will say yes, the other half will say no. Ramsey himself has said both yes and no, depending on the situation. But ultimately, you will be the best judge.
I've worked on commission most of my career and I would tell this caller to be extremely careful when comparing "potential" income with a guaranteed 100k per year. I'm sad to say it, but companies have been known to LIE to attract talent when it comes to commission-based jobs. Do your research, because what they tell you and what the truth actually is may be two different things.
The majority of interviews for sales jobs consist of the company overselling the potential pay while the candidate oversells their own drive and abilities.
This is tough.... I'm dealing with Golden handcuffs right now. I make splendid money and I LOVE what I do but hate the company. I've been stacking as much away as possible in anticipation that I won't be here much longer.

@@charlesg7926 There's just no job security. I've been there from the beginning and I think I've extracted all the information and upward movement that I can out of the company. I'm fairly young and I need to learn more then I think I'll be able to where I am.

I definitely have had jobs I don't like for the pay and from my experience this is my best advice. If you have a major debt that you are trying to pay off, then bite the bullet and finish paying off debt quickly. Although, if the job makes you absolutely miserable, then no money is worth your mental and physical health so don't take it.

Maybe for a year he’d be ok. But if it were employment vs contract, nope. We want to maximize our earning potential and also maximize our flexibility from the work and joy for the work. We want to build a life we don’t *need* to vacation from. Work should be fulfilling, not depleting. And family always comes first.
Do not take a permanent position that you don't like just for the pay. I did it and the negativity spilled over in the marriage.
Another comment pointed out that it's okay to do if it's temporary. I got a side job once as a roofer on the weekends. I was actually good at it, but hated the elements. I have mad respect for roofers who do it full time. Everything I touched burned my skin. It was like working in a hot skillet. I did it for four months while I paid off a vehicle

I took a higher paying job and I don't like it. I wish I could undo that mistake. Currently looking to get out. I'm in line for a lower paying job with a better company and working environment.
There's also the option of sacrificing a few years at it, save, and then move on to your dream job.
Yes, work it for some years, use the extra money to pay off debt, save like crazy, and then pursue your interest. Unless of course you’re comfortably rich.
Keeping a job I hate but the pay is good. That's my struggle.

No it won’t. You spend more time out of work than you do at work, therefore being miserable at work and happy whenever you’re not at work because you can afford to do anything you want is a lot better than being happy at work and being miserable when you’re not at work because you can’t afford to do anything fun.
@@johnmartin4641 if you equate having fun with money, you're spot on. The key is to value things that are not costing you heaps of money. Live according to your income, don't value only the material stuff and you will be happier. No need for a job which will make you miserable and no money problems.

It really depends on each individual basis. You can't just broad answer this question. There are things that he didn't address. Work hours, flexibility of schedule, remote or physical appearance, people you'd work with, paid time off, perks and benefits and whether it's 1099 or W4. They all factor into it.

Don’t do it. I could have had a job that paid me $20k more a year but I had a boss that said horrible things about me and my coworkers and then wondered why I left. I may not make more money but I am so much happier with my current job.
That's a little different. If you had the same situation but the boss was cool you'd take more money. He knows what to do just isn't loving the work. He could take less money and have a horrible boss too
I always tell myself “This lululemon won’t buy itself.. and you want a nice apartment you gotta work for it.” So I’ve managed to stick it out for 3 years in a stressful job, finally moving onto better things and I can say since I handle that I can handle anything😅
My opinion: no. If you find a job you love, you will eventually excel and make more money accordingly. If you take a job you hate, you will spend most of your life miserable, dealing with the job you hate, getting over things you hate, and avoiding things you hate.

Don’t like…hate, it’s all a matter of degrees. If he doesn’t like it before he begins, he’s likely to start hating it after awhile.
It's easy to say no to it in our heads but the golden handcuffs hold many people tightly. Feeling this situation, hoping to find a different path soon.
From personal experience I can attest that the lower paying more comfortable and enjoyable job is the way to go!!!

60k jobs are not that easy to find even if he's qualified with experience.
There’s no right or wrong answer...it’s situational.
To me if you have a choice in the matter there’s no amount of money worth staying on a job you hate.

Jobs I didn't like were just entry level in high school and late teens. Just motivation to do something better with my life.
With zero debt and career goals I said goodbye to all of that never looking back.
Take the job. Get out of debt and build your emergency fund. Then move onto your passions.
Take the one year contract. Crazy to start a new career with a brand new baby and in debt.
Bro I’m a FA here in San Antonio. The sky literally is the limit here. Of course it’s all dependent on your AUM but I’ve know of advisors here in town that make upwards of 200k-500k
If you in debt you better take it.
If u want a change then make the change. Even if its less money. Clean up some debt first. Dont have to be all of it. But if u dont make the change, every day of work will get harder and harder til u wake up one morning and feel like crying cuz u cant take anymore of that job. But u need to keep the bills paid. So u feel trapped. Do something thats sustainable over time that u enjoy. Be happy at home with your wife and child & at work. Thats a better deal than making 100k and u are living just to pay bills. As a father, yea, pay the bills. But still be your own person too. Life doesnt have to be u slaving for the next 20+ years. Live life
See if I actually went to my supervisor and said I need more money or I'm leaving, I would be fired regardless of how good i am.

I am currently a pre school teacher and I wish this job payed more (pays a bit over minimum wage) because it’s what I love but I’m not sure if there’s something similar that I can do that also pays more.

One job is a guaranteed six-figure income for one year, the other is not. Especially if you're greatly in debt, that's the option I'd go with
Being a financial advisor isn’t easy you have to build your book of business and it takes years to get over 100k because their so much competition out their unless their giving you a book of business and your getting the residuals do it if not just do the year get out of debt but probably for the year do your homework and start building a book of business

@@Kryptic1046 that’s because doctors are constantly dealing with life and death situations, and lawyers, contrary to popular belief, make no money despite all of that education they went through. This guy’s job isn’t life or death every day, so I don’t think that this applies to him.
With a baby on the way it's time to hunker down and be the stable provider for the next 18+ years. Experiment when you are young with nothing to lose.

I grew up rich, partied a lot, dropped out of college and went to rehab. Today, I am working at my dad's company part-time (full-time salary) and I still party here and there. I couldn't have done it without all the support!! Thank you to those that helped me along the way!

@@Anthonydp Depends on where you live. If you see there is a demand for it from companies online, then yes it I believe it is worth it. I live in Jamaica, and they aren't many job ads for business analysts, so unless you know people, it will.not be worth it.

It sounded like he was going to start a business as a financial advisor, starting at zero income, which is how all new businesses start. Most new businesses start with a loss so not so clear about what the next step is?
That's not quite how it works you have to be sponsored by a brokerage. Plus it's a ton of low paid time just to get all of the certifications required. I don't think he's really looked into this enough yet.
