Ever wondered whether or not the job offer(s) you’ve been given were ones that you should actually take? Did you ever regret accepting a job offer? Then this video is for you! Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever been in this predicament and what you did to overcome it!
1. Duties are in line with passion 2. Job skills can transition to future role(s)? 3. Are supervisors competent/trustworthy? 4. Is company culture compatible? 5. Is pay adequate? 6. Is there opportunity for advancement?
I applied for and was offered a position for a boutique consulting agency, but they offered me $30K lower than the industry standard for that position. I negotiated, and they only offered me $5K more. I asked to speak to current employees, and they all told me that they routinely worked 60+ hour weeks. I did the calculation and my hourly wage would have ended up being what I was making at my previous job. So yes, it was essentially my dream job, but I couldn't in good faith take a job where I would have had to work more hours and not get compensated fairly for it.
@@_baller this is often the case, however, what they described actually messes with other aspects of the job that you should consider before accepting a job. In this case, the amount of hours required eats into work/life balance. As an example, I was recently offered a position that paid a decent amount above what I am currently making. The position is located a lot further than my current employer. In addition, current employees work an additional 10 hours a week in the office more than I do now, plus they usually answer emails or do work from home. So work/life can be thrown off. I had to sit down and calculate what the drive will cost me to see how much I would be keeping and if medical benefits would be costing me more a year. When all was said and done, I would have been making about $5k more a year to travel farther and work longer hours. I found it not in my best interest at this time. Maybe I'll find something similar a lot closer. Happiness is not always about money. By the way, my current employer is really easy to get along with. When I broke my ankle, they allowed me to work remotely, allowed me to go to doctors appointments without using PTO, and were very understanding when the pandemic hit when I asked to work from home due to medical conditions I developed after going through chemo. They granted this before states even thought of locking down. So, I know they care for their employees and actually want me on board.
Linda you are so right. I accepted a job where in the interview, I felt a little "off" about the hiring manager. I accepted the job because it was at the same organization that I was working at prior and I had a good experience, and the job itself was very attractive to me. i wish I had seen this video before I accepted that position because I wish I listened to my gut. I found the hiring manager to be almost a bully to me, and I went home crying after work week after week! I quit after 3 months because I could not stand it. Luckily I got a job soon after and they didn't see any huge red flag by my short employment on that team; however, truly I wish I had listened to my initial gut reaction and not accepted the job. Lesson learned
@lindaraynier Ma'am Can you please make a video for slow learners to thrive in the workplace. All workplaces require quick learners, so what can slow learners do to retain the very little training they get to perform their tasks and duties.
This is so hard. I mean, everybody has to pay bills. Sometimes, it is hard to consider if you really likes the job, because if you don't get it you are not sure how much time you are gonna take a job that you definitely enjoy, but if it pay less it is not that worth it either... anyway, we are all slavers.
Very important questions to ask when considering a job offer. When you think that you're going to spend 80% of your time in that environment/job, you had better make the right decision. Thanks Linda!
In this times so difficult, sometimes people agree somes bad offers, because need money to sustain your family. I hope in the future the market will better for all people. THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR GREAT TIPS!!!
Just had my 3rd interview but will need to turn in down. The original position was filled and the one coming up won't challenge me or take me to the next level of my career. But I learned so much and appreciate the experience.
Just 💗 u! I watched 5 of ur vids went into an interview fully prepared and confident with the tools you provided and was offered a final interview within my first interview! Got the job and they actually said they have never asked anyone to do a final interview within 30 min of meeting them :) thank you so much!
I accepted a job offer eight years ago and the dream job became a nightmare. I was totally unprepared for what the new employer demanded. 18 months of career hell.
My sister-in-law just went through this. She took a job at a different firm because it was the next step up on her career path. She was put in charge of a team, but didn't receive any real communication from her manager about the services they were providing or any guidelines to follow. She took the job because she could work remotely instead of traveling into the city and was a decent raise. She ended up working a ton more hours because the team was worthless and we're not prepared for their meetings. She gave it a full year thinking it would get easier after she learned the ropes and the team would gel. She left and is back at her previous company in pretty much the same roll. She is making a bit more money than before, but works remotely now except with an occasional meeting downtown. She's comfortable with who she works with and for. It's part of the grass is not always greener.
I had a virtual group interview today and it was so awkward. I say this because I was the only person visible and everyone else had their cameras off. The panel was impressed with my resume & my responses. The group consist of 4 to 5 people but only 2 people was interactive. It's a remote position, and in the beginning I was highly interested but now, the last process was so unprofessional on the organization end, that's it's making me recant my decision to accept it if Im offer the job. I'm questioning their training process after this latest interview.
I just had my second virtual interview and I have mixed feelings about it. In my case I could see the three people but I got the impression that two of them were not at all happy people, very subdued. I almost felt like they were trying to get me to reconsider the job. Always go with your feeling, hopefully you made the right decision.
@@aliciac.6470 Hey Alicia, I actually accepted the offer. My training was rough but I made it through and I'm glad with my decision. Now after only three weeks of working I’m back to job searching... I definitely liked the position itself and the job duties, but the environment was not healthy for me
Ahh that’s not good and I’m sorry to hear that! It’s amazing what the gut will tell us though. Best of luck in your new search and if there’s anything I can do to help!
In my job the benefits are good however pay a lot of taxes..and I am working on getting promotions hopefully..thanks Linda for these tips I can use them.
Thank you Linda. This is quite informative. I once took a position/job for an e-payment processing company (Sept - Dec, 2010), that I actually never capture on my CV. Lucky for me it came immediately after my post-grad, so it never shows up as a career-gap.

For the question on knowing the person you are working with. I had an interview where I talked to one manager on the team, but did not know the lead above the manager was being hired and I did not like the lead after working with him
My predicament is i have a job offer for 3 months and another similar job which said they will call me shortly i have to show up at first job in like 5 days while the other job is potentially a year contract with benefits
Womderful video.. Loved all the questions and explanations.. I am currently switching jobs and this video was really helpful for me in understanding how to negotiate and finalise my decision.. thanks a lot linda !
very very very helpful to me at this moment. i have 2 offers, the 1st choice is in line with my profession but i have less experience but very manageable. 2nd choice is almost the same as my current job but not very in line in my profession as Civil Engr but MEP job.
Couldn't you simply take the job and continue searching until you found a better one. If i were to return to the USA tomorrow I would likely take the first job I could find so i could pay bills and stay there until i could find one i liked better in China, Russia or Brazil. Generally, even if i am not running out of money i would try to find a job that at least pays my rent so that way I am keeping my income in the green. I would rather be working miserably with a roof over my head than not working and miserable with no roof over my head.
One thing I've seen time and time again is the manager who honestly wants to do what's best for everyone and everything but bureaucracy gets in the way. A great example is a big box store where even if you are the one person screwing up everything, I mean creating massive losses for the store at large, but you don't violate any policy, you're good. But the best worker clocked out to lunch, literally seconds too late gets fired.
Hi Linda, thanks for your knowledge. All your tips were very helpful and informative. By the way, just if possible can u share some thoughts as to how can be a good negotiator or how to deal negotiation when dealing with an account, may it be a marketing support or sales target. Big thanks!
Hi Linda. I have a question, how many "yes" answers I need to make myself sure about a job offer? In my case, I dont get all yes answer from those 6 questions. Thank you.
If I may, I think her first question is so key. In your gut, how excited are you about playing the role? Her third question is also key - does your intuition tell you this manager going to be great to work for. If these two are a no, for me those are deal breakers.
Great video- can u pls advise - if you get red flags at the interview - when do u decline the job offer ? Is it after the interview OR see if you hv been selected first - then decline when they present you with the job offer? Thanks
How is it the compensation, benefits and location aren't the most important things to consider on taking a job offer? That's my dilemma right now - I got a job offer that aligns with my career goal, but the package isn't that good, especially the health insurance coverage. I am very bored of my current job, there's no career growth but the benefits are great. I still haven't signed because I am torn between choosing career growth and benefits.
I have a few problems 1. I thought my resume seems looking neat enough but not sure is it acceptable to most of the employers working for the companies. I don't really know what am I missing from my resume 2. Even if how many jobs I applied and submit my resume, employers will only care who is staying nearby from the company located and I always seems to stay so far distance away from them due to the how many operating hours a day and days a week. Looking at the worse so far, most companies requires a 7am to 3pm or 3pm to 11pm shift and 6 days a week. It's always be fixed or rotating shift set by the company supervisors or managers or bosses and always no changes are allowed anymore once every schedule has been fixed all the time 3. I don't know how to get job fast by hiring me, I got 2 choices but I am not sure if there's more to find a way quicker to get a job. By far, one is recruitment agencies and looks like may take some time after helping me to apply and asking me to wait and wait and another one is go to the company or in a shopping centre store itself to apply to them directly. 4. Been looking for a permanent job for over a year and unfortunately I can't get any good permanent job, most of the time is always temporary jobs. Longest is 3 months and although I just got permanently suspended because I did some mistakes previosuly even if it means a temporary job. So I don't really know what to do, I don't know how to keep on searching anymore, almost feeling like giving up all the time I am from Singapore and I feel it's one of the hardest country to find a better job out there
Heyy Linda, been following you for the past month...it will be helpful if you can pen down some tips on how to handle counter offers upon job resignation from your employer. Thank you in advance. 😊
The best advice is to not accept the counter offer from your current employer. The logic is that if you stay, you’ve been marked as one that would leave so your potential is capped at that point!
i'm so confused , im in the same dilemma and need your opinion. . I got job offer last week for job A and took the position. This week i got an offer for job B which pays more, about $7k more a year. Job A is a hybrid schedule that works 2 days in the the office while Job B is hybrid schedule but have to work 4 days in the office. Job A has better medical insurance benefits than job B. I was working for job B previously for 4 years so i have seniority there if i take that while Job A is a brand new company. With all those factors said, which one would you take, Job A or B ????
I am in a situation now where ive reached my ambitious limit with my current role, there is a pay freeze. So ive been offered another job, its £7k GBP more than what i am on. But i am worried it doesnt excite me. The client base is pretty boring. And a lot of the team processes and reporting look really odd! They also have a strict go in to the office policy and office attire. I found that really old fashioned. Do i question these things a lot of it is ingrained culture! Not sure i like it. 😕 I have an interview with a small brand but much more my thinking and culture just same salary as what i am on....my dream has always been to work for a brand, not an agency (i am in digital) what to do??? 😢
Hello. Question: I am in the process of interviewing. I applied to a position entitled "Supply Chain Specialist". A recruiter posted the ad. When I was given the information of who I would be greeting in the interview, the itinerary says, "Candidate: Customer Service Representative - (and then my name)." I am very frustrated because I did not apply to that title. If they posted that in the 1st place, I would've never even looked at the job ad and probably would've never applied. I have my personal reasons for why I would not want to be called that. The job functions are very similar to what I've done in the past and I was good at that and I'm okay with that the duties being similar to this job. I just want the title that they advertised. Do you think I have a good chance to negotiate a title change?? If they really want a CSR, they should've said that in the job title. I think I really want to work there as I've done my research about the company.
What if i am not working at the moment yet have a job lined up but i am in the process of getting documents so do not have an actual start date. My situation at the moment is i have a company in China interested in hiring me and i am eager to work in China as it was my goal after college. I got the BA in Political science so I could teach English in China. At the moment I am waiting for the invitation letter. Once i get that all I will need to do is make an appointment at the Chinese Consulate and apply for my Z visa. i was debating whether i should take a job locally while I am waiting even though i know that once i got the papers I will quit because I would rather work in China
Hi Linda, What if you really want to have the job but the contract is short term and one day at a week is a very early in the day and i dont have anyone to watch the baby this early in the day. The other job was an amazing first conversation. Then i had a second conversation with the staff and one person was so sweet and the other was a bit strange. I really got a lot of questions where i not felt good about... I am really second guessing what job i have to take. Job 1: A really nice place and where i can learn a lot but the contract is short and i have to begin 7 o clock one day at the week but i have novody to watch my baby. Job 2: A nice job in the same sector where i work in now and i had a lot of fun during my first conversation but one co worker was very strange in second conversation. She really set the mooi and the rest of the colleges tried to make it seem less strange. Hope that you can advice me. Greetings Samantha

Good advice, well thought out, practical and actionable.
Great advice! Thanks for giving concise info when thinking about accepting a job offer
I appreciate this information so much! Very helpful!
Good to questions that need to be noted down
For the question on knowing the person you are working with.
Terrific advice - thank you - you know your stuff
Thanks for the wonderful tips.U r very good career coach.
very very very helpful to me at this moment. i have 2 offers, the 1st choice is in line with my profession but i have less experience but very manageable. 2nd choice is almost the same as my current job but not very in line in my profession as Civil Engr but MEP job.
Nice presentation Linda Madam ,you have laser mind dissecting out complex intricacies of toxic workplace. ☺️
This is very detailed, informational and helpful! Thank you Linda for sharing all those 6 questions!!
Most important thing about a job is the compensation FOR SURE
Such an important topic. Thanks for sharing!
What if you are unemployed and are running out of money then do you still consider NOT taking a job? or take anything that comes along.
Linda Raynier please could you consider making videos on writing improvement?
One thing I've seen time and time again is the manager who honestly wants to do what's best for everyone and everything but bureaucracy gets in the way. A great example is a big box store where even if you are the one person screwing up everything, I mean creating massive losses for the store at large, but you don't violate any policy, you're good. But the best worker clocked out to lunch, literally seconds too late gets fired.
Its true what she said. I have made some of those mistakes so I knew well
What's to dislike? This is spot on. Kudos Linda.
Thank you for sharing these helpful tips. 💛
Thank you Linda. As always great tips and very insightful.
Thanks for this Linda, it help me a lot what to consider when applying for a job..

Hi Linda, thanks for your knowledge. All your tips were very helpful and informative. By the way, just if possible can u share some thoughts as to how can be a good negotiator or how to deal negotiation when dealing with an account, may it be a marketing support or sales target. Big thanks!
So helpful thankyou
Thank You....These are Excellent Tips!!!
You are amazing. I love you!!
Does anyone else always watch her videos at 1.5 speed?
i find her advice wishy washy at best.
Great video- can u pls advise - if you get red flags at the interview - when do u decline the job offer ? Is it after the interview OR see if you hv been selected first - then decline when they present you with the job offer? Thanks
My gust feel anxious so I cannot trust that otherwise I will stay at my current job until I will be let go at 50...
Can u do a video on management interview questions?😊
Thanks Linda !
I love your channel content...
I don't even know my responsibilities and it looks stressful. Idk what to do. The pay is good by still
This is amazing!
Thank You!
What did you end up choosing? I am sort of in that dilemma right now
Good visuals, great tips. Thanks for the video 😊
Very interesting video see you around my dear thank you for these tips ..

I have a few problems
1. I thought my resume seems looking neat enough but not sure is it acceptable to most of the employers working for the companies. I don't really know what am I missing from my resume
2. It's always be fixed or rotating shift set by the company supervisors or managers or bosses and always no changes are allowed anymore once every schedule has been fixed all the time
So I don't really know what to do, I don't know how to keep on searching anymore, almost feeling like giving up all the time
I am from Singapore and I feel it's one of the hardest country to find a better job out there

Such beautiful instructions ❣️
Heyy Linda, been following you for the past month...it will be helpful if you can pen down some tips on how to handle counter offers upon job resignation from your employer. Thank you in advance. 😊
The best advice is to not accept the counter offer from your current employer. The logic is that if you stay, you’ve been marked as one that would leave so your potential is capped at that point!
@@Buyitforwife thank you 😊
Mohitha Parameswaran any time!
This is great
good info
Agree. Very useful.
Hey Linda
Why do you say our current rate will continue to affect our future rate? At least in my state it’s illegal to ask what your current compensation is
i'm so confused , im in the same dilemma and need your opinion.
🤔good info
Thank you
at this point I would take anything
Hello. Question: I am in the process of interviewing. I applied to a position entitled "Supply Chain Specialist". A recruiter posted the ad. When I was given the information of who I would be greeting in the interview, the itinerary says, "Candidate: Customer Service Representative - (and then my name)."
I am very frustrated because I did not apply to that title.
Hello. I am interested in the outcome of your interview. How did it go? 🤔
Hi Linda,
What if you really want to have the job but the contract is short term and one day at a week is a very early in the day and i dont have anyone to watch the baby this early in the day.
At this point during this fcuking pandemic, I would take anything. ANYTHING.
