Create 12 Holiday or Christmas cards at once!

Hi! Today I’m going to show you how to make some abstract Christmas cards. It’s a pretty fun process and easy enough to do with kids too. My name is Laura.
Grab some hot chocolate, and let’s get started!
You’ll need paint, I’m using acrylics that I had on hand. Some paint brushes, and at least one round one with a pointy end. I used some gold paint for highlights, but that is optional. You’ll also need some pretty thick paper, I used canvas paper for extra texture. And a place to mix your paints and water to wash your brushes when you’re done. Last of all, you’ll need something to cut with, glue and card stock to assemble your final cards.
First, we’ll paint together. This is an example, but every piece will look different. Paint about three quarters of the paper a light sky blue on an angle. Paint the last quarter a reddish brown.
Then paint two randomly spaced tree trunks with dark brown. Three if you’d like, the point is to just get some structure and create a loose feel. Let it dry for a while. Then add branches. Look outside at some real tree branches if you can, and follow those shapes loosely. I’m looking at pine trees.
Then add loose upward leaf patterns. Have fun with this, using different angles, sizes, and shades of green.
Next add pine cones under the branches. Try to make the point form so it looks like pine cone shapes. Try different sizes and patterns. When that dries, add round red ornaments along the top of the branches. Big or small is fine. Let that dry for a bit
Add highlights of white to the ornaments.
Last, add some gold highlights to the pine cones.
When everything is dry, cut your big painting into smaller pieces, to a size that fist your card stock but leaves a border. I used 4x5.5 and cut to 3.75 by 5 to leave about a quarter inch border. Pick out your favorites pieces, and glue them to the card stock. You could just frame the painting as decoration if you really love one too!
