The epitome of a fighter. I mean. Dude. This guy fought from 145 all the way up to 205. Didn't always come in, in the best shape or with the best mentality, but find me another guy in the next 100 years willing to fight literally ANY AND EVERYONE.
GSP (while being a great fighter himself), or Silva (being a grea fighter himself), ain't got two stones in their pocket to make their fight happen. How long did it take May and Pac to get together. You give Penn, 3 minutes notice that he's fighting Velasquez... that dude gon show up ready to throw down. Guaranteed.

the toughest, rawest, bravest, most badass champion of the sport. records dont mean shit when most of the guys youve fought are cans. look at penns resume:
    145: edgar
155: edgar, sherk, sanchez, florian, pulver, gomi, serra, stevenson, ludwig
170: gsp, hughes, serra, nick diaz, macdonald, fitch
above 170: renzo gracie, rodrigo gracie, machida
these guys are KILLERS in those weight classes! and bj beat most of them! bj penn is the epitome of FIGHTER! thank you, bj penn, for all the years of amazing fights!!!

For anybody saying that he isnt that old, you have no idea what MMA does to your body. Randy couture was able to do it so old because he didnt start so young. Professional MMA is insanely brutal on the human body and one can only take so much, BJ penn has been fighting for some time now

    • @ShakurasStalker
      @ShakurasStalker 9 років тому +1

He hasn 't taken that many extreme beatings though, and he's only had 26 fights. BJ Penn had to retire because he wasn't good enough. Great MMA fighter, but not the best. At 36, he doesn't have much left to show in the sport.
Look at the boxer Jake Lamotta. He had around 100 matches and he took some of the worst beatings in the history of the sport, getting absolutely pounded in every match, even the ones he won... he was just a tank that could take damage, get close, and dish it out.
Look at Rampage Jackson. 46 professional fights, 11 losses included and he's been slugged quite a few times in the head.
Look at Anderson Silva. 39 professional fights. He's taken some pretty bad beatings even before Weidman, particularly the pounding he took from Cheater Sonnnen. Still fought very successfully up until the Weidman fights, and now he's been doing amazingly in his sparring matches- we just need to see if he can beat Diaz.

Now dont get me wrong, when i was in highschool yes i smoked weed and i did fine in the wrestling team, but as a top tier athlete weed has to be somewhat of a detriment

Sounds like a couple trying to diminish Penn for maybe money or something. Even if he did hit on this girl extremely hard and was ridiculously thirsty lol That's as far as I could see BJ going. Maybe you can tell me what you think Joey since your a huge fan? It has kept him off some current cards where he would have made a come back...

You were once a champ and this fight doesn't remove that. Us fighters, inside or outside the UFC are on a path that is different than most. You're really inspiring and you give me some wisdom. A lot of people say its sad for it to end like this and even the way it ended when he lost his last fight against Ryan Hall. There shouldn't be anything sad about any of his last fights. Dana White said it all. The only statement I see being made when a guy like this goes out, takes a shot, and loses, is that he is a true fighter, he never tried to take the easy or most glorious way out, he just went out fighting.

Why would BJ ever get upset over losing to an average fighter like Franky? He has an impeccable record! His legacy is etched in stone! Everyone gets old and everyone retires in every industry....

I like how there is no talking on the stage, besides BJ. All fighters just dropped trash talk and sit quietly because they realize he is leaving UFC for good. That's how you know its just business and they do have respect for one another.

Am I the only one who already could see before BJ even stepped into the ring that there was something wrong? When he walked to the cage it looked liked he had fainted in the locker room.. All pale in his face, taking deep breaths, seeming dissoriontated.. He even walked to the guy who should check him with his shirt on.. He just didn't seem "there".. Might the long layoff have given him "octagon hitters"? He seemed to be very anxious even before Edgar entered the cage!

Sad for the sport, no more Prodigy...but the double digit losses aside -he is a legendary fighter!
