*Correction May 1, 2017: At 2:06, a graphic in the video incorrectly wrote the formula for the golden ratio. It should be B/A = A/(A+B). We regret the error.
John Edmark's sculptures are both mesmerizing and mathematical. Using meticulously crafted platforms, patterns, and layers, Edmark's art explores the seemingly magical properties that are present in spiral geometries. In his most recent body of work, Edmark creates a series of animating “blooms” that endlessly unfold and animate as they spin beneath a strobe light.

I've just seen 2 examples in an exhibition in Berlin ("Futurium"). Then searched in the web and found your video. Wonderful, amazing.

I mean when you start the video with how he did, it's hard not to make comparisons. He literally takes the time to talk about an obsession with spirals

a Dutch artist and graficus (Escher)
Also was captured by a sense of perpetuum mobilae.
He did his graphics on paper.
He would be suprised to see all this
    actual beauty .

      Pieter Sweelinck
With all due respect - I don't think he would be surprised. He did not have the tools to create what this artist does - but Escher did his work first in his mind, so I really believe he understood the potential. I do think he would be thrilled to actually see it though, plucked as it was from his mind. And this artist should consider that an extreme complement. (because his work is thrilling!)

Could you show people HOW you create these incredible pieces? Are they all CNC cut? What tools do you use? Glued, hardware etc? This would be really great to see! Do you have a book?

I’m so glad I found this I have had a little obsession with spirals. It started in 2001 with the release of the band Tool’s album Lateralus and the song Lateralus. There are spirals EVERYWHERE, the solar system, DNA,fingerprints, plants, trees, seashells, and on and on.
