Nobody’s going to talk about how his father just bought him an anvil when he was 11. Like “here son have fun”
I got an anvil for my son when he was about that age and would take him to blacksmithing meetings.
@@lnickross that’s really cool actually
well it can be dangerous but if you're taught proper hot stuff etiquette you will be safe
*accidentally smashes finger with a mallet*
True😂😂
He seems like a man who can do anything he sets his mind to. His dad is probably just as amazing, seeing how much he was inspired by his dad.
Genetics probably
you just made me question the last 38 years of my life
This guy is great and patient we need more people like him who are not only creative but innovative as well
Amazing
If you got a special mind, be a dreamer and you’ll realize you can sculpt your reality

Only your own mind can limit your perception of what is possible

I can like and ruin it or I can leave it and enjoy it
Hmmm
Be the change
Fascinating! Not just the fluid but his upbringing, vision, determination and overall skill set.
Not so fascinating, but very nice pieces of good chances in life and coincidences that mede him who he is!!!And he is using them perfectly!!He is a perfect human being!!
😊
Yeah. All I could think was he's lucky. And he embraced it. So he stays lucky.
He developed super intricate coolant system for his overheating magnets.
Yea.. he is a thinker..
@Clay Art Jaz amen.. incredible
@Clay Art Jaz his Father, as well..
Wait-wait-wait... you're saying this guy's name is Eric... and he controls magnetism... hmmm, I wonder if he also goes by "Magneto".
where is xavier ???
i wanna be mystique😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Cue the xmen theme
Where's the Xavier institute!!!!
He’s a metal worker/blacksmith not a magnetic guy
Stunning. I also like the aesthetics of his art.
yeah i want him to sculpt my hole
zack that’s enough UA-cam for today
Isn’t all art supposed to be aesthetically satisfying?
@@samwescoat5750 Definitely not, or at least, not everyone has the same sense of what is aestheticly satisfying. Beauty lies in the eye of the observer, as they say.
i’m very not sorry i read your last name as underwear
This guy truly represents what it means to be an artist. No rules, no boundaries, no compromises. Imagine it, then create it.
and MONEY. most importantly. the single most crucial ingredient to successful art.
of course, you have to buy drugs somehow.
@@cenobitek Haha
@@benwarped7272 in this case yeah, but an art like drawing wouldn't need to spend money, but it can help
Okay, bending the light between the glass was my favorite. Talk about thinking outside the box, that's some cool thinking right there.
I'd say he was thinking inside the box
Rick Knight badum tsss
This guy makes his own boxs to think both outside and inside of them, that's BRILLIANT.
Thanks for doing this feature, Wired! Eric is legit one of the most innovative artists and is an intensely advanced craftsman. Also thanks for including one second of me at 3:28. I was in the grad school program with Eric.
That’s so cool! That time must be wrapped up in a lot of memories for you. I love it when thirsty minds can find oases to settle a while and expand their territory, the challenge rewarded by the growth. I hope your time there was fulfilling; I sometimes miss being around people of similar interests. The spark of wanting to know how, or why, of finding new problems and solutions to them, it doesn’t go out, but it can be harder to find camaraderie in it.
The piece looks like it would have been a bit trippy to see. I’m still not sure if this piece meant to convey that the magnet (it being INSIDE the fluid is such a great idea, seemingly obvious, but I’ve not seen experiments with it) is drawn to movement through some camera or series of cameras arrayed around the sphere, or if the movement was directed by another mechanism. As I scrolled through here I wasn’t sure if I’d find people discussing it or mulling it over. I can’t imagine seeing it in person!
@@SunflowerSpotlight That was the best UA-cam comment I've ever read hahaha. Seriously though, you hit upon something I've thought about a lot regarding being in an inventive, creative, unique problem solving environment.
The magnets are activated by a computer that is translating the camera input into a digital representation of the magnet grid.
♡♡♡♡♡
Clout Chaser....😂
@@kodiakcub1110 you are detestable
Its moving like the Venom attracting thing.
AWESOME !
He is so cool! Being an artist, a programmer, as well as a welder at the same time
The greatest and most beautiful part of Eric Mesple's art is his dad (hero) who impacted his son greatly. He must have referred to his dad a 1000 times. The envy of generations where sons follow in the footsteps of their fathers.
What a Brilliant guy, really appreciate how he explains so patiently and admits to his failures as well, shows humbleness.
We need physical tangible art to remain engaged with our increasingly digital world - this was inspiring
You mister are so fortunate to have had your dad's genius and to grow up in an art environment. This material matched with your sculptures is quite as astounding. Bravo !
Intelligent, handsome and creative? Leave something for the rest of us, bud.

I saw the one at 7:18 in Wonderspaces in Scottsdale, it’s wild seeing it in person
So much respect man. I understand the level of complexity this is and he just added light to it. *mindblown*
He makes it sound simple, he looks really calm
absolutely incredible. to teach yourself all these things for your art is simply amazing
It's really nice to see someone with artistic sensibility AND practical building skill. Far too many people seem to only possess one or the other.
Impressive combination of art , science and dedication!
So his first passion led him to discover his other cognitive abilities. I mean is this even fair?? The man excels literally at everything he puts his mind into. I have nothing but respect.
I love that he's making art that inspires others to make something different and profound.
This is soo cool, what a creative guy!! science merging with art!
What a great artist, and that voice!
This guy is incredible!!! Really creative and ridiculously patient with his works. Hope he gets really successful
What a beautiful story with a beautiful message of beautiful art. Your perseverance and talent are inspiring
Wow! Techy and artists. Inspiration level maxed.
Now this is amazing science,it's important to catch the attention of those who will lead one day...
Wow. Amazing & beautiful art. This is a life well spent!
Eric seems quite decisive, definitely knowing what he wants to create. One of the biggest challenges I continue to face when wanting to create is indecisiveness. I often end up completely paralyzed with it, unable to bring myself to do anything at all, & so I never begin. I think it may be a weird & sneaky form of procrastination, manifesting as a symptom of a deep-seated fear of failure. Which is why I greatly appreciated it when he mentioned his many failures & frustrations. He's given me hope that I can still potentially face or overcome my fear of creating things that are "unworthy", "ugly", or simply doubting that I even have the necessary skills to bring my visions to life as tangible, finished pieces- whether those pieces are little doodles in a sketchbook, or complex kinetic, interactive, sensory-stimulating, or conceptual installations!
Keep at it.
Just paint the buildings with it and give me magnetic shoes to climb those walls
The building paint would go insane lol
I'm no civil engineer, but I'm pretty sure they already make steel buildings...
Like Brendon Urie lmao
@@csn583 i think the material uses iron
The bond of the paint must be stronger than the gravity you put on the shoes otherwise you’re just cleaning up the paint with your shoes.
Fascinating science!! 🧬🧪 Thank you for sharing! 🧲
This guy is so interesting, I could listen to him for hours and hours... He's so curious, inteligent, criative and skillfull
I LOVE Ferrofluid! It is such an amazing material, but looks so scientifically advanced! Can't say I've seen it in person, but just watching it is mesmerizing.
i love Science, you see this video about magnetic fields, and it baffles me every day that there are people out there who still doubt the Earth's gravity.

Your the one who is gonna innovate the frequency magnetic water purification filtration system for the world :)
Kurt Franklyn but... he didn’t make ferrofluid. He makes art with it. Also, please elaborate on what the frequency magnetic water filtration system is.

Eric had a great dad. Shout out to Eric Mesple's dad who lead by example and influenced his son.
I was gonna say something of a "smart" remark about this "dork" and his ferrofluid, but after watching the video as a whole and taking it in at face value.
I can't, but what I can do is respect it.
Good job buddy, there's not to many ppl who are able or even willing to stick with something they like or want to do now a days..
👏👏👏
What a man. Now I know which way to show my son. Well done to him and his dad. True grinder💪💪💪

Wow, the father had an awesome talent with drawing.
I thought Eminem was gonna pop out of nowhere in the background and be like: *"vEnOmMm, vEnOmM, vEnOm"*
He says venom momentum and venom
"Venom, I got that adrenaline momentum"
Well the way he says venom is equivalent to the mom's spaghetti meme where he's just saying it over and over and I find it funny so that's why I put that
Hello boomer yoda
@@marinap5345 ummmm hello there?
Just wow...bravo...art and science synergy at its finest 👏👏👏👍
This man is very free, like he has such a free mind that is so creative cause there’s no boundaries to how much he can create with his mind. And really that’s rare, not many people can be like that, though frustrated with no results, he continues with what he wants and he achieves that with hardships and determination yet with knowledge and skill of his own. But what I’m really interested is his father, he became a beacon of light to his career now and that’s just heartwarming.
Beautiful marriage of art & science.
This is literally evidence of someone building an income and a job out of their passion and watching their passion grow into something completely new and amazing. Choose your passion not money.
wow... incredible... imagine how incredible he could be as a teacher for kids, showing them not only how to do things, but how not to get discourage doing something...
This is by far the coolest thing I've seen*-* it's soooo satisfying

Holy crap, you see it too!? 🤣
😂
Probably IN the future this will become the real VENOM
I was just thinking that!
im thinking the same
This could and should have been a 1 hour episode on this guys life. We need a pt 2
Patience beyond extreme 👏🏻....
Creativity comes with well earned deliberate practice. 10 - 12 years is a good investment in producing this art. Young Eric can still do more! Keep up!
I'm sure Tony Stark could make an Iron Suit out of that material.
RIP Stark
This is actually a good comic book plot
He made this thing called the superior iron man suit that's like a symbiote. It's like a liquid moving organism that he can control and put on and such. So there are some similarities
The liquid is super dangerous to humans
He did
That’s absolutely stunning and incredibly mesmerizing!!! ❤️
this is what you get when you combine science and art...just marvelous.
Combine science, art and a mind that continues to explor "WHAT IF".
Imagine the liquid gets evaporated over time and then it rains like magnetized water that only sticks to metal
Imagine how much smaller umbrellas would be
v v the rain would attack to the underside of umbrellas because it is made of metal
Calm down, folks, it's just iron soup, not magnet soup
That's not how evaporation works though. If the fluid evaporates, the iron remains in a solid form, so none of it goes up into the clouds to create a magnetic rain. It's an interesting hypothetical, but it is entirely physically impossible.
kingofbudokai I agree. Also, it would be impossible for it to evaporate because it made of iron and alcohol, not water.
I feel like a table top with that fluid on the surface and strong magnets underneath that do a computer choreographed dance would be sweet. They could be electro magnets with variable voltage, or they could be rare earth magnets that adjust in proximity to the surface underneath. Like it is cool to do the thing where it mimics someone, but a well executed dance would be cool too. It wouldn’t be complex
But you're screwed if you keep a laptop or a phone on top of it lol.
Check out Daniel Rozin and the countless other projects that came after. No, it wouldn't be difficult to code, especially when there's probably solutions on github.
This is insanely cool. Love his passion as well.
This is truly amazing, thank God for the technology he gives us.
“When i was 11, my dad gave me an anvil”
Yo thats the true chad dad
I'm curious if changing the surface tension of the carrying fluid or pulsing the frequency of the magnet to various trig waves might not affect the width and height of the peaks.

The process... Is very inspiring
Question: how would these highly magnetized pieces potentially affect observers who came near them who had things such as body piercings, metal implants, or pacemakers? We know what MRIs can do because of magnets where they can yank piercings out of your face and not care what flesh is holding them. I wonder if this guy has created a protection field surrounding each piece. Just a thought.
that would an Interesting slow- Mo experiment not a real human though.
MRIs have a magnetic field of 1.5-3 Tesla, I don't think this would be anywhere near that. I'm not sure though it's an interesting point, I think the more problematic thing would be if the artist ever needed an MRI, as any ferro fluid in his skin would get pulled
Try to guess his favourite style of music guys.
