    Having lived in Alberta in the past for 13 years, I truly appreciate your coverage of this beautiful Province. Most people focus on British Columbia in the foothills of the Rockies, but they forget that the other side of the Rockies holds beautiful sights that beckons to be explored. Go and explore, it seems to say.

      @@MustDoCanadaOctober is a great time to go to Writing on Stone. The fall foliage is spectacular and there are very few people there. We went last year on the day after Thanksgiving at the start of the week and had the entire place to ourselves.

    Because I am resident of Calgary since 2005, I have done them all, except for David Thompson, both on my own as well showing to my out-of-province friends and not once but several times and my 'Volcano' has the mileage to prove it.

    You forgot From Calgary on Highway 22x west to Kananaskis. Stop at Spruce Meadows if there is a show and hike at Ann and Sandy Cross. Then head to Priddis town and get some coffee then head to Azuridge hotel for some lunch. Keep going to Bragg Creek- lots to do there restaurants, BnB, mountain biking, golf, arts and fishing or horse back riding. Then head to Highway 66 for camping, fishing, atv, mountain biking and hiking. Lots of hiking trails there. AT the end of Highway 66 there is a gravel road that takes you to Highway 40 to Barrier Lake. You can either go back to Calgary or explore more of K Country such as Kananaskis Villageor to the Upper and Lower Lakes then take the gravel road to Canmore via smith dorian trail or Spray Valley. This can take 3 days if you want to enjoy your drive. There are lesser known roads but I will keep that to myself.

    These are all great road trips but, the best road trips in Alberta are down the gravel roads off the beaten path. 1 of my favorites is the forestry truck road along the Pembina river past Fairfax lake and the Coal Valley mine into the small town of Cadomin up to the Great Divide then back along the Cardinal River through Grave Flats before coming back to the forestry truck road. 4x4 vehicle recommended. This trip can be done in a loop with Banff-Jasper and The David Thompson Hwy.

    Hello guys, wife and I are planning to travel from Red deer to banff next week and I'm looking for recommendations for points of interest along the route. Also which route would you recommend better, the cowboy trail section or David Thompson?

    • @MustDoCanada
      @MustDoCanada  3 роки тому

      Hmmm, so, the Cowboy Trail section would add about 45 minutes to your trip. I think it's worth it if you have the time. I mainly say that because highway 2 is really not scenic at all, as you probably know. It's super busy and people really fly on it. Cowboy Trail would slow things down a bit. More prairie scenery. Ranches. - The David Thompson would be the best, as it's not only super scenic but connect to the Icefields Parkway, giving you the chance to drive half of it to Banff. But, that one ads 2 hours, so almost doubling your drive time. If it doesn't matter, I'd go with David Thompson 100%

      hahah in Calgary and the rockies, it's not that cold for very long. The mountains, in general, are awesome road trips in the winter

      If ya got some Northern ones, let us know. I've driven to Fort Mac hundreds of times and it's not really a bucketlist road trip. Peace River is nice but the road trip itself? meh
