    This is a review of the Harbor Freight Central Pneumatic Engine Cleaning Gun, Item # 68290.
    While mainly a blowgun, it has a suction tube which can dispense the cleaning solution of your choice. The injection rate can be adjusted.
    This will not, by any means, turn your air compressor into a pressure washer. It is simply for application of the cleaning solvent. The end of the suction hose has a solution strainer to prevent debris from entering the gun. It's also made out of metal, which makes it sink to the bottom of the container, a handy feature.
    I'd really recommend this highly if it were able to dispense more solution, but it seems it only produces a fine mist, even after adjusting the injection rate to maximum.
    If nothing else, if it doesn't suit your purposes, it will make an excellent long-reach blowgun, which is really handy for other tasks.

    I have one of these .. I used it for cleaning an oil leak off the back of my engine (a hard to reach area) I don't see any change at all when adjusting the knob that's supposed to adjust volume. I used small portion of dish soap to water when using it. It worked ok. For about $7 it's a good tool to have. Going to clean suspension and undercarriage with it too.

      ***** Yeah, just another one of those cheap tools that's good to have, for whenever you need it. Nothing spectacular, but will work in a pinch. If it sprayed more fluid it would definitely work better, but such is.

    Yes I agree I was hoping it would spray more fluid

    Great review, if it is powerful enough to blow out debris from the spark plug well then I'll head to my nearest Harbor Freight ASAP. Will also use it for minor engine detailing.

      Oh definitely. It sprays mostly air, the water or cleaning solution is sucked up by capillary action. So you have a strong jet of air with tiny cleaning solution droplets.

    I used to use one of these to paint with. Would mix enamel half and half with thinner and worked well

    the best way to get more fluid is to have the hose elevated higher than the gun. not a big difference but you will get more soap pumping.

      +Louie Casillas That's true; I didn't actually think of that! I'll give that a shot next time I use it.

    This is a good tool. Water is not what this was intended to spray. It works better with fluids such as, mineral spirits and engine degreasers.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  4 роки тому

      Yes, when used for its intended purpose, you'd want to be spraying something like a degreaser at an engine anyway.

    Great video/review. Thank you very much. Perhaps adding food coloring would have made the water sprayed a bit more visible. Just a friendly suggestion. 🙂

    It sounded like the air stopped when you let off on the trigger. The one I have continuously blows air and only stops the fluid. I would rather have it shut off the air and that would stop the fluid.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  6 років тому

      Yes, the air and fluid both stop when you let go of the trigger.

    Cant really tell what it sprayed from the video. Would have been helpful if you could see it spray.

      When it's December in NY, and there's 6 feet of snow on the ground, you make do with what's available.

    Hey I invented an air compressor powered pressure washer. I own a detail shop and I've been testing this thing out everyday for 4 years it works just as good today as it did the day I made it. so and you can adjust how much pressure and how much volume and anyways I was wondering if you knew who to contact Harbor Freight so I can show them this thing

    Thanks for the video. Can it be used to clean AC Condenser? Can it suck water that high (overhead)?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  9 років тому

      Ary Himawan That's something I'd like to find out! I don't know about extending it over a roof, but by another foot or two I wouldn't expect a problem. I'd say you'd be best bringing your container of cleaning solution with you on the roof, and I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work for that!

    • @Noeman2009

      jaykay18 AC condensers in my home are situated just about 2.3 meter above the floor. As you suggested, in my opinion, using a Jerry-Can as the container will do the job and also safer. I ordered this tool today and need to see what it can do. Thank

      I was wondering the same thing! I would think you can just have to keep liquid supply close to sprayer, guess a gallon of the liquid on a ladder secured? Try it out I want to know

    I had one of these units lying around the shop. I set it up to use, but its blowing air out of the siphon port rather than sucking air/water! The bottom o-ring is ok, the nozzle and sub-nozzle look ok. Are there any other seals in this unit?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  5 років тому

      Perhaps there's a check valve that's failed?

    • @garyallman3039
      @garyallman3039 5 років тому +1

      I read somewhere (guy cleaning car a/c evaporator) that he had to turn down the pressure to 80psi, or it would blow the fluid back out the siphon port.

    caniconnect ittoapower washer?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  9 років тому

      +Wilfredo Fercol You'll probably lose your hand if you try that due to the higher pressures. It's meant to hook up to an air compressor, and uses capillary action to "suck up" the cleaning solution and dispense it through the gun.

      You can use pruning shears to cut your lawn. But you wouldn't want to. Same deal here. Blow guns are cheap.

    capillary or venturi?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  9 років тому +1

      Well, Dave, if you must split hairs, it's actually Bernoulli's principle. Venturi is closer to what it is, but capillary (such as capillary action during bloodwork) is what most people are more familiar with,

    I just pick it up and it's great to spray oil. thin oil .and the air pressure break away loose paint and rust and the same time coat it with oil ..I thin my oil with gas ..work great .

      @SamAdamFreeman 8 років тому

      +jaykay18 I gotcha, but people are using it to wash cars apparently. Haha. So not so powerful for a regular home car wash then?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  8 років тому

      Sam Adam Freeman No, certainly not. It really does not dispense much liquid through the tip. You're best off using a pressure washer, which is what the proper tool for the job is, should you insist on using power tools to wash the car!
